New-onset diplopia is an important complication that may occur following several types of ocular surgery, including glaucoma surgery. Surgeons should be aware of the possibility of ocular motility disturbances after glaucoma surgery, whereas strabismus experts must understand the mechanisms and the most appropriate management of these forms of strabismus. this website The incidence, mechanisms, characteristics and treatment of diplopia and strabismus after glaucoma surgery will be reviewed.Persistent ocular motility and sensorial abnormalities following retinal detachment surgery are not common. Scleral buckling increases the risk of deviation in secondary gaze positions most commonly horizontal deviations. Suspect superior oblique incarceration in patients with limited downgaze. For patients with persistent strabismus, surgery is an option. Removing the exoplant may be necessary to access the extraocular muscles but the effect on alignment is minimal except in cases were the scleral buckle migrates anteriorly causing restriction. Removing the scleral buckle may increase the risk of retinal re-detachment. Hangback recessions and adjustable sutures can be safely used.No validated measures of vaccine hesitancy (VH) for youth vaccination currently exist. We adapted the Parent Attitudes about Childhood Vaccines survey (PACV-15) for use in youth to create the version Youth Attitudes about Vaccines survey (YAV-14 and YAV-5), then translated it into three languages (German, French, and Italian). We administered the YAV-14 to 1,003 youth aged 15-26 years in Switzerland. We used exploratory factor analysis and Mokken scale analysis to explore the psychometric properties, Cronbach's alpha to investigate the reliability for the YAV-14 and the YAV-5, but we only report results of the YAV-5 analysis here. We determined construct validity by logistic regression of the association between youth VH as measured by the YAV-5 and non-receipt of the first human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine dose. EFA produced a single scale in German and French while two factors were obtained in Italian. All language versions fit the Mokken scale models with medium-scale strength. There was a significant association between VH and HPV vaccine non-receipt for the full sample (odds ratio (OR); 1.93, 95% confidence interval (CI); 1.31-2.85). Language-stratified analyses found a significant association between VH and non-immunization in the German-language sample. Our results demonstrate that the German version of YAV-5 is a valid and reliable scale for identifying vaccine hesitant youth regardless of sex, and the French version is a valid and reliable scale for identifying vaccine hesitant female youth. Further validation is needed for Italian and French-speaking male youth.

Pediatric restraint use has increased over time in the United States, but motor vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of death for children under age 18. Age-appropriate use of safety restraints (safety seats, booster seats, seat belt) and statewide child restraint laws can greatly reduce injury or death in the event of a crash. Surveillance of pediatric restraint use and compliance with policy can inform prevention efforts. This study aims to examine time trends in pediatric restraint use and compliance with pediatric passenger laws in Iowa by rurality and age.

Fourteen years of Iowa observational pediatric restraint use data (2006-2019) are included in this cross-sectional study. Proportions of restrained youth by year, age, and rurality (rural, urban) were calculated. Log-linear models were used to compute the Annual Percent Change (APC) by year to explore trends in restraint use over time by rurality and by age group.

A total of 42,007 observed pediatric passengers with complete data from 2006 to 2019 were included in this study. Restraint use increased across all years and all age groups observed, with the largest increases among the older pediatric age groups. However, restraint use was consistently highest among the youngest child passengers. With all study years combined, the odds of being compliantly restrained were 13% lower in rural areas (OR = 0.87, 95% CI = 0.80, 0.95) compared to urban areas.

Restraint use was lower in rural areas and among older pediatric passengers, suggesting targeted efforts to increase restraint use among these groups may have the greatest impact on overall occupant protection.

We aimed to identify assistive technologies that are promising for addressing loneliness in people living with dementia in long-term care.

A scoping review was conducted. EBSCO, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and ProQuest were searched from 2000 to 2020. The included studies were selected by three independent researchers and summarised, compared, and categorized according to technology type. link2 Publications were eligible for inclusion when they reported on psychosocial interventions aiming to reduce loneliness and/or social isolation in people with dementia in long-term care settings.

Twenty-four papers were included (20 original research papers and four reviews). Most studies were conducted in Australia and Europe. The studies aimed to investigate two different types of assistive technology social robots, and multimedia computer systems. Most studies focussed on behaviour, engagement, and mood as primary outcomes. Only one study directly aimed to alleviate loneliness.

Even though only one study addressed loness directly, it became clear that assistive technologies used to apply psychosocial interventions have the potential to impact loneliness in people with dementia in long-term care. However, it remains unclear why loneliness was not included as an outcome and how loneliness could become a key outcome in evaluating assistive technologies.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONLoneliness among older adults is associated with health risks, such as the development of dementia, depression, and increased mortality.Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technologies have been studied to address loneliness for older adults; however people with dementia are often excluded from such studies. This diverse group of technologies is shown to have a promising impact on outcomes, such as social engagement, quality of life, and mood, but loneliness was studied less often.More research is needed to discover the potential of assistive technologies for people with dementia living in long-term care.

Propose a way of coding and qualifying HRQoL following a stroke using the codes and qualifiers of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF).

An observational, cross-sectional study was conducted involving 51 individuals with hemiparesis resulting from a stroke. ICF codes related to the Stroke Specific Quality of Life (SS-QOL) scale were listed and subsequently classified using the generic ICF qualifiers, which range from .0 - no impairment to .4 - complete impairment. A simple mathematic calculation was proposed to convert the SS-QOL scores into ICF qualifiers.

The use of the ICF qualifiers revealed that the individuals exhibited a moderate level (.2) of quality of life, with mild impairment (.1) regarding upper limb function, language, self-care, and vision as well as severe impairment (.3) regarding social relations.

The proposal presented in this study allowed qualifying 43 ICF codes related to quality of life after a stroke in a simple, standardized manner, enablter a stroke in a simple, standardized manner, enabling the identification of different levels of impairment on each of the domains of the SS-QOL scale. The capacity of NMR of being quantitative can also justify the calibration of other analytical methods. In pharmaceutical domain, quantitative NMR (qNMR) can be applied in the identification and quantification of drug simultaneously. The early drug development stage requires a minimum sample for analysis. Thus, priority should be given to utilize this technique to attain results with least investment, rapid analysis time and minimum sample consumption. This technique is a significant phenomenon to identify impurities, drug substance, residual solvents of in-process control (IPC) samples and characterizing the formulations. From an analyst's perspective, qNMR proved to be a routine practice in pharmaceutical industry to qualify any drug product. The absolute and relative methods offer great help in quantifying the component of interest in the process control samples and finished products. This review highlights the evolution of NMR application in the pharmaceutical industry, where determining the purity of drug substance, drug product and establishing the identity of impurities and its level are the challenging aspects. Methods Between 2017 and 2020, we enrolled 242 patients with oropharyngeal papilloma who were treated with either the KTP laser (n = 160) or cold steel surgery (n = 82). Patient charts were reviewed for demographic data (age and gender), pathology, anatomical location of lesions, operative duration, pain rating, residual disease, and recurrence. link3 Results The oropharyngeal papillomas were successfully removed in all patients, except one with a significant pharyngeal reflex. There was no significant difference in the average time for lesion resection between KTP laser and cold steel group (18.11 ± 13.96 s vs 19.43 ± 16.91 s, P > .05). However, all patients who underwent cold steel surgery experienced bleeding during the operation and required postoperative observation (about 20 min), making the total procedure time longer than that of the KTP laser procedure, which did not cause any intraoperative bleeding or require postoperative observation. After KTP laser treatment, the pain rating was .49 ± .98, whereas after cold steel surgery, it was .74 ± 1.12 (P = .058). Twenty-five samples were sent for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, and one tested positive for both HPV 6 and 11 strains, while another tested positive for HPV 16. No residual disease or recurrence was observed at the treatment sites after a long period of follow-up (M = 15.35 ± 10.79 mo; range = 6-39 mo). Conclusion The KTP laser provided a better hemostasis effect and a good surgical field of vision during the operation, allowing the surgeon to complete the procedure in less time. No significant difference in terms of pain rating, incision recovery, and postoperative recurrence between the KTP laser treatment and cold steel surgery.
