As strict measures were taken, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic has been gradually brought under control. As a port city, Shanghai's main problem has shifted from treating local cases to preventing foreign imports. To prevent the re-outbreak of COVID-19 caused by imported cases, the Shanghai government has set up central isolation sites for all people entering the country from abroad to be placed under medical observation. This report describes how to set up central isolation sites and run them effectively. We put isolation sites in transformed hotels, arranged personnel according to a huge data network, and set up specific procedures to manage guests. The epidemic situation in Shanghai has confirmed the feasibility and effectiveness of the methods that other jurisdictions can adapt for their use.Mesanophrys sp. is a newly identified parasitic ciliate infecting farmed swimming crab. To demonstrate the correlation between parasite development and environmental conditions, this study aimed to investigate the effect of temperature, salinity, pH and frequency of passage of parasite on survival, growth and body size of Mesanophrys sp. in vitro. The results revealed that survival, population density and growth rate of the parasite were highest at 12°C and decreased with increasing temperature from 16 to 26°C. In addition, the survival, population density and growth rate of Mesanophrys sp. were high at 20‰. When salinity was adjusted to levels lower (0-10‰) and higher (40-60‰) than 20‰, the parasite's survival and growth rate gradually declined. The optimal pH for parasite survival was 8.0, whereas its survival was inhibited at 9.5. Our result also showed that parasite body proportions (lengthwidth) were significantly smaller at the highest temperature compared to the lower temperature, whereas different salinities had no significant effect. Furthermore, we introduced dynamic parasite culture systems in vitro where Mesanophrys sp. was cultured in medium-containing culture plates through continually reducing and halving the old medium into fresh. Application of this optimized dilution timing technique with fresh medium and sub-cultured enabled a continuous culture of parasites. Under this optimized condition, the highest population density and exponential growth rate of the parasite were achieved than that of a control group. This study will help to understand the ciliated parasite infection dynamics and provides new possibilities for in vitro parasite-associated studies.
Excessive alcohol consumption during reproductive years may impact the integrity of developing eggs and sperm, potentially affecting the life-long health of future children. Inadequate diets could aggravate these preconception effects of alcohol. #link# The aim of the present study was to assess the prevalence of excessive alcohol consumption and explore whether weekly alcohol intake is associated with energy and nutrient intake and adequacy of micronutrient intake among students.
Cross-sectional survey using a validated and reproducibility-tested FFQ.
University of Agder, Norway, in 2018.
622 students (71 % female).
More than 80 % reported having consumed alcoholic beverages the past 4 weeks. One-third of men and 13 % of women exceeded the upper recommended limit of 14 UK alcohol units/week. An inverse association between increasing alcohol intake and energy-adjusted micronutrient intake was evident for thiamine, phosphate, Fe, Zn and Se in men, and for vitamin A, β-carotene, vitamin E and C, thiamine, vitamin B6, folate, P, Mg, K, Fe, Zn and Cu in women. A substantial proportion had vitamin D, folate, Fe and I intakes below average requirement regardless of alcohol consumption level. link2 The combination of prevalent alcohol use, decreasing micronutrient density of diet across alcohol consumption level and a high probability of micronutrient inadequacy indicate reason for concern in a preconception public health perspective.
Our findings call for investigations into young adults' knowledge, reflections and beliefs regarding diet and alcohol use to understand how these behaviours could be improved ahead of parenthood.

Benign thyroid diseases continue to be widespread endocrine disorders. Early recognition of their symptoms and exact diagnosis are the prerequisite of targeted therapy and minimal impairment of the patient's well-being. Drug treatment, radioiodine therapy, thermal ablation procedures and surgery have been shown to be successful treatment options. As guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of patients continue to evolve, an interdisciplinary approach ensures optimal diagnosis and management on every step in the care for these patients. We present three clinical scenarios for benign thyroid disease the symptomatic goitre, the painful thyroid and the thyroid with hyperthyroidism.Primary hyperparathyroidism Abstract. Primary hyperparathyroidism is a common endocrine disease that comes along with a disruption of the calcium homeostasis and is accompanied by a variety of downstream disorders. These are often overlooked as patients present with a multitude of unspecific symptoms or may even be asymptomatic. The diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism can be made with the determination of calcium and parathyroid hormone levels, including the measurement of calcium in the 24-hours urine. The operation is the only therapy to cure primary hyperparathyroidism. To successfully conduct focused parathyroidectomy an accompanying visual imaging methodology is of great value and improves the operation success rate. Furthermore, an intraoperative parathyroid hormone monitoring is applied. A bilateral neck exploration technique is applicable in selected cases. The endocrine surgical expertise is pivotal in particular for re-operations, hereditary primary hyperparathyroidism and carcinomas. If surgery is not possible, a medication-based therapy is applied. This medical therapy requests a continuous therapy progress monitoring. In conclusion, to treat primary hyperparathyroidism an interdisciplinary team approach with endocrinologists and endocrine surgeons shows the best results.Adrenal tumors Abstract. The term 'adrenal tumor' describes benign and malignant mass lesions of the adrenal gland, including primary adrenal tumors and metastases from extra-adrenal origin. With the widespread use of imaging technique, adrenal tumors have become increasingly detected as 'incidentalomas'. The detection of an adrenal tumor raises two questions Is the mass malignant? Is the mass hormonally active? Whereas the evaluation for malignancy is based on specific imaging characteristics (imaging phenotype), a targeted clinical examination and specific biochemical tests are required to assess for hormonal secretion. An adrenal mass 4 cm), and in cases with non-conclusive evaluation for malignancy or hormonal activity, the decision for further management has to be made on an individual basis. A minimally invasive surgical approach may be considered in adrenal tumors less then 6 cm and without local infiltration of adjacent structures. Both laparoscopic (transabdominal) and retroperitoneoscopic techniques are possible. The surgical outcome depends on the surgeon's experience. A close interdisciplinary collaboration is mandatory in the evaluation and treatment of adrenal tumors. From thyroid nodules to thyroid cancer Abstract. The prevalence of thyroid nodules is around 1 % per life year, whereas 5 % of the nodules are malignant. Primary diagnostics consist of examination of TSH and cervical ultrasound. Depending on the findings, additional laboratory investigations, a scintigraphy or a biopsy are indicated. In case of thyroid cancer, the primary treatment is usually surgery. There are at least nine different clinical guidelines worldwide to provide a standardized perioperative management, whereas the guidelines of the German Association of Endocrine Surgeons (CAEK) and the American Thyroid Association (ATA) are most frequently used in the German speaking part of Europe. Individual therapy concepts are determined at the interdisciplinary endocrinological tumour boards. The indication for postoperative radioiodine treatment or thyroid hormone supplementation in TSH suppression dose in case of differentiated (papillary or follicular) thyroid cancer is evaluated according to the American Thyroid Association (ATA) risk stratification. The ablative radioiodine therapy of differentiated thyroid carcinoma Abstract. In the treatment of differentiated thyroid carcinoma, ablative radioiodine therapy holds a key role in curative intended therapy after total thyroidectomy and consideration of the appropriate indication. The benefit of ablation therapy extends from the completion of initial staging via post-therapeutic whole body scintigraphy via optimization of the value of thyreoglobuline measurement and implementation of dynamic risk stratification in follow-up care to decreasing the rate of tumor recurrence and mortality of thyroid cancer. Within this article, we discuss aims, indication, side reactions and specifics in preparation and execution of ablative radioiodine therapy.Neuroendocrine Neoplasia of the digestive tract Abstract. Neuroendocrine neoplasia are a rare and heterogenous tumor entity with long median survival even in metastatic situation. Surgery is the key therapeutic option although a wide range of other therapies are available in metastatic situation. Milestones in classification and grading were achieved by the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS) leading to practical guidelines and WHO- and TNM-classification comparable to the colorectal carcinoma. These new guidelines enable the handling of a rare and complex tumor entity.Surgical aspects of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 Abstract. link3 The multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN 2) is an autosomal-dominant hereditary tumor-syndrome. The subtypes show clinically specific disease manifestations. In MEN 2a, medullary thyroid carcinoma, pheochromocytoma, and primary hyperparathyroidism occur, while in familial medullary thyroid carcinoma, the medullary thyroid carcinoma is the only clinical manifestation. In Enpp-1-IN-1 purchase and pheochromocytoma are the clinically dominant manifestations. All MEN-2-specific disease is treated primarily surgically. It is of utmost importance to identify the individual gene carrier in order to enable timely intervention before malignancy develops (prophylactic surgery) or to reach surgical cure as well as to identify relatives that are MEN 2 gene-carriers. Typical MEN 2 manifestations and clinical signs important for surgery are outlined. In case MEN 2 is suspected, it may be vital to exclude underlying pheochromocytoma before diagnostic or surgical interventions are started to forego hyperadrenergic crisis unprepared.Gallocatechin gallate is a form of catechin and an ester of gallocatechin and gallic acid. This is an epimer of the gallate epigallocatechin. In this study, the effect of this molecule, containing a biologically active group, was investigated in terms of important metabolic enzymes (carbonic anhydrase isoenzymes I and II (hCA I and II), achethylcholinesterase (AChE) and α-glycosidase (α-Gly) enzymes). The molecular docking method used to compare the biological activities of the Catechin 5-O-gallate molecule against enzymes was used. Afterwards, the ADME/T analysis was performed to investigate the drug availability of the Catechin 5-O-gallate molecule and the parameters obtained from ADME/T analysis were examined. Continuation of this study, for evaluating antioxidant and radical scavenging capacity Catechin 5-O-gallate, cupric ion (Cu2+) reduction capacity by CUPRAC method, Fe3+-Fe2+ reducing capacity, DPPH free radical clarifying (DPPH·), ABTS radical clarifying (ABTS•+) were performed separately and during the study, trolox, α-tocopherol BHT and BHA were used as the reference antioxidant compound.
