To assess the role of abdominal binder in patients with midline wound dehiscence after elective or emergency laparotomy in terms of pain, psychological satisfaction and need for reclosure.

It was a comparative study done at EAST Surgical Ward of Mayo Hospital, Lahore from 1

January 2018 to 31

December 2019. One hundred and sixty-two (162) patients were included in this study with post-operative midline abdominal wound dehiscence and after informed consent by consecutive non probability sampling technique. Patients were divided into two groups by lottery method into eighty-one patients each. Group-A included patients where abdominal binder was applied and Group-B included patients without abdominal binder. In both groups pain score, psychological satisfaction and need for reclosure was assessed and compared.

Patients with abdominal binder shows significantly less pain (P value =0.000) and more psychological satisfaction (P value = 0.000) as compared to the patients where abdominal binder was not used. However, there was no difference in reducing the need for reclosure in patients who use abdominal binder (P value = 0.063).

Although abdominal binder helps in reducing the pain and improving the psychological satisfaction in patients with midline abdominal wound dehiscence yet it doesn't help in healing of wound and reclosure of the dehisced abdominal wound is needed.

To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of transcatheter arterial embolization for controlling spontaneous hemorrhage in patients with acquired cystic kidney disease (ACKD).

This retrospective study included 18 patients with ACKD (MF=135; mean age, 56 years) who underwent renal artery embolization to control spontaneous hemorrhage between January 2001 and September 2020. The underlying etiology and clinical presentations were reviewed and previous computed tomography (CT) findings were analyzed. Furthermore, angiographic and embolization details, technical and clinical successes, and complications were assessed.

Subcapsular, perirenal, and pararenal hematomas were observed on CT scans for all patients. Contrast extravasation was observed in 15 / 17 patients (88%) on contrast-enhanced CT scans. Angiography showed active bleeding in 14 patients (78%; contrast extravasation [n=6], pseudoaneurysm [n=3], and both [n=5]), suspicious bleeding in 1 (5%), and no bleeding in 3 (17%). The technical and clinical success rates were 100% and 94% (17/18), respectively. Total and partial embolization was performed in 14 (78%) and 4 (22%) cases, respectively. Subsequent surgical nephrectomy was required for one patient with clinical failure due to recurrent bleeding despite total embolization. Procedure-related complications included mild post-embolization syndrome in one patient and contrast-induced nephropathy in five patients (28%) without long-term complications.

Renal artery embolization is safe and effective for controlling spontaneous renal hemorrhage in patients with ACKD.

We designed this prospective observational study to clarify the associations between dialysate IL-6, a marker of ongoing peritoneal inflammation, Tie2, an important factor in angiogenesis in the peritoneum, and a high peritoneal solute transport rate (PSTR) in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) and to investigate their outcome predictive roles.

A total of 60 stable continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients from a single center in China were analyzed in this prospective study. We measured dialysate levels of IL-6 and Tie-2 using ELISAs. Our primary study endpoint was all-cause mortality with 10 years' follow-up.

For the evaluation of PSTR, we used the Dialysis/Plasma creatinine (D/Pcr) ratio. We subdivided the patients into two groups for statistical evaluation low and low average D/Pcr (<0.64; L/A), and high and high average D/Pcr (≥0.65; H/A) transporters. The mean levels of dialysates IL-6 (21.71 ± 8.88 pg/mL) and Tie-2 (1.23 ± 0.43 ng/mL) were significantly higher in the angiogenesis. Increased D/Pcr is a relative risk factor for mortality and technique failure in patients undergoing CAPD.

To assess the effect of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and/or stress urinary incontinence (SUI) on various domains of female sexual functions in patients before and after reconstructive surgery for these pelvic floor disorders.

We conducted a quasi-experimental study of 126 women aged 25-65 years, presenting with POP / SUI, from January 1

2019 to December 31

2019 at Aga Khan University Hospital. POP surgery was performed only in patients with symptomatic POP ≥ stage 2 according to POP-Q (quantification). Sexual functions were assessed using Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire, among sexually active women at baseline and 18 months after surgery.

Mean age of the participants was 51.6, with a mean parity of four. Out of 126 patients, 31 patients underwent vaginal hysterectomy, pelvic floor repair and mid-urethral sling (MUS), 55 had vaginal hysterectomy with pelvic floor repair, 12 women had only pelvic floor repair and 10 patients had uterine suspension surgery for prolapse, while 18 patients underwent MUS operation alone for SUI. There was a statistically significant difference in female sexual functions after surgery for POP and/or SUI (p<0.01). This improvement was observed in both total and individual scores of each domain of FSFI with an overall improvement in sexual function from a mean of 18.5 pre-surgery to 20.8 post-surgery.

This study reveals that women sexual functions are affected by POP and SUI and improve remarkably after reconstructive surgeries for these pelvic floor disorders.

To correlate compliance to personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols and risk of exposure to SARS-COV-2 infection in endoscopy staff.

We included 85 endoscopic procedures performed at Lahore General Hospital from May to July 2020. Standard operating procedures (SOPs) were implemented for patient selection, risk stratification and personal protective equipment (PPE) use for endoscopy staff. Patient and endoscopy staff were followed for Covid-19 infection. PPE scores for staff and Covid-19 positivity on follow-up were correlated using student's t test.

Following 85 procedures included, 2 (2.3%) patients became Covid-19 positive. PPE score was <9 in 5 (5.8%) procedures for endoscopist and Covid-19 developed in 2 (2.3%) of them, PPE score was <9 during 19 (22.3%) procedures in 1

assistant and 9 (10.5%) developed infection and for 2

assistant PPE score was <9 in 19(22.3%) endoscopies and 5 (5.9%) tested positive for covid-19. Infectivity of endoscopy staff was 6.2%. Association between PPE score and risk of Covid-19 was not significant. (p value 0.51 for endoscopist, 0.10 for 1

assistant and 0.09 for 2

assistant).

Compliance of SOPs for infection control reduces risk of acquiring Covid-19 infection during endoscopy. Proper use of PPE is effective for safety of endoscopy staff.

To explore the interventional therapy and clinical efficacy of extracranial ICA aneurysm.

The clinical data of eight patients with extracranial ICA aneurysm treated by interventional stent implantation from December 2014 to February 2018 in the Neurosurgery Department of the Third Hospital of Mianyang were analyzed. And this research was a retrospective analysis. All patients underwent digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and were diagnosed with extracranial carotid artery aneurysm. These patients, therefore, were treated with interventional stent implantation.

Interventional treatment was successfully conducted on all eight patients. In eight patients, the aneurysm cavity was not developed immediately after angiography, and in one case, the aneurysm cavity was developed with coil-assisted embolization. All the internal carotid arteries were well developed, with no complications such as intraoperative rupture, bleeding and thrombosis occur. Follow-up for three months to two years showed that the patients recovered well, the GOS score was 4 points for patients with cerebral infarction, and the rest reached five points. Follow-up CTA showed no signs of aneurysm recurrence or ICA restenosis.

Interventional stent placement is a preferable and relatively safe method for the treatment of extracranial carotid artery aneurysm with less trauma and short operation time.

Evaluation of TBL from students' perspective has been done extensively, but limited studies have analyzed the effect of TBL on students' academic performance. Objectives of the present study were to assess students' perceptions about team-based learning versus traditional lectures and then to compare with students' grades in both TBL and lecture-based assessments.

Cross-sectional descriptive study which included 147 dentistry students was conducted between March and June, 2020 at Qassim University, Saudi Arabia. A self-composed 10 item closed ended instrument was administered through electronic mail. One block from each academic year was selected randomly and organizers were requested to provide grades of students in both TBL and lecture-based exams. Grades from A to F were determined as achievement indicator and were compared statistically using Kruskal Wallis, Tuckey Posthoc and Chi-square tests.

A total of 120 students (81.6%) responded to the survey, and mean perception score was (3.29±0.94). Perceptions of students, regarding TBL as a learning strategy were comparatively superior as compared to the lectures. Students scored significantly higher grades in TBL exams (p<0.05) as compared to lecture-based assessments. Gender-wise analysis indicated that female students secured significantly higher grades in the TBL.

We conclude that dentistry students perceived TBL as superior teaching and learning strategy compared to traditional lectures. Their perception was verified by their significant higher academic achievements in the assessments for the coursework taught by utilizing team-based learning strategy.
