The method is based on the use of FS ensembles constructed by boosting and using two well-known FS methods, fast clustering-based FS and the fast correlation-based filter. The experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposal in terms of the classification performance compared to standard methods. The proposal can be extended to other FS methods and applied to other problems in cheminformatics.Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a significant health crisis, and current treatments provide only limited benefits to cognition at the cost of serious side effects. Recently, virtual screening techniques such as ligand-based virtual screening (LBVS) and structure-based virtual screening (SBVS) have emerged as powerful drug discovery tools for identifying potential ligands of a biological target from a large database of chemical structures. The cholinesterases are an AD target particularly well suited for drug discovery using virtual screening due to their well-characterized active sites and comprehensive understanding of the structure-activity relationships of existing inhibitors. Over the last 5 years (2015-2020), at least 15 studies have used virtual screening techniques to discover potent new cholinesterase inhibitors. Herein we review how LBVS and SBVS have been applied individually or in tandem to discover novel acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase inhibitors for AD, and highlight the need to confirm in vitro activity of screening compounds.Despite a recent dramatically increased risk of using chemical warfare agents in chemical attacks and assassinations, fundamental interactions of toxic chemicals with other materials are poorly understood, and micromechanisms of their chemical degradation are yet to be established. In this paper, we explore how sarin (also known as GB) adsorbs and decomposes on dry nanoparticles of TiO2 anatase and rutile phases. We found that both anatase and rutile readily adsorb sarin gas molecules because of a strong electrostatic attraction between the phosphoryl oxygen and surface titanium atoms. The sarin decomposition most likely proceeds via a propene elimination; however, the reaction is exothermic on the rutile (110) surface and endothermic on the anatase (101) surface. High energy barriers suggest that sarin would hardly decompose on pristine dry surfaces of TiO2, and degradation reactions can be triggered by defects or contaminants under realistic operational conditions.Spasticity is the most common motor disturbance in cerebral palsy (CP). Lockdown in the COVID-19 outbreak has profoundly changed daily routines, and similarly caused the suspension of spasticity treatment plans. Besides, the delay in botulinum toxin (BoNT) injection, which is important in the management of focal spasticity, led to some problems in children. This consensus report includes BoNT injection recommendations in the management of spasticity during the COVID-19 pandemic in children with CP. In order to develop the consensus report, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) specialists experienced in the field of pediatric rehabilitation and BoNT injections were invited by Pediatric Rehabilitation Association. This study aimed to assess the inflammatory adverse reactions of vocal fold injection laryngoplasty with hyaluronic acid.
This study was a retrospective chart review of patients who underwent vocal fold injection augmentation with HA injection from January 2005 to September 2016 in nine different institutions. Demographic data, indication for injection, injection techniques, types of injection material, settings of procedure, and complications were reviewed. The types of complication, onset time, and management of complications were also noted.
In all, 467 patients were identified. The majority of patients had been injected under general anesthesia (n = 382, 84.7%). For injection material, two different types of hyaluronic acid were used hyaluronic acid alone or hyaluronic acid with dextranomer. Complications occurred in nine patients (1.9%). The majority of complications were inflammatory reactions (n = 7, 1.47%). Main symptoms were dysphonia and/or dyspnea with an onset of 0 h to 3 weeks after the hyaluronic acid injection. Three patients were hospitalized, one of which was also intubated and observed in the intensive care unit for 24 h. Systemic steroids and antibiotics were the main medical treatment in the majority of cases. There was no statistical difference in complication rates between patients who received hyaluronic acid and those who received hyaluronic acid with dextranomer (P = 0.220).
Hyaluronic acid can be considered as a safe substance for the injection of vocal folds with a low risk of inflammatory reaction.
