Our experimental evaluation on two datasets with FA from 1) clinical routine and 2) large multicenter clinical trials shows that the addition of weak RV labels as a guidance during training improves the FAZ segmentation significantly with respect to using only manual FAZ annotations.Ocular oximetry, in which blood oxygen saturation is evaluated in retinal tissues, is a promising technique for the prevention, diagnosis and management of many diseases and conditions. However, the development of new tools for evaluating oxygen saturation in the eye fundus has often been limited by the lack of reference tools or techniques for such measurements. In this study, we describe a two-step validation method. The impact of scattering, blood volume fraction and lens yellowing on the oximetry model is investigated using a tissue phantom, while a Monte Carlo model of the light propagation in the eye fundus is used to study the effect of the fundus layered-structure. With this method, we were able to assess the performance of an ocular oximetry technique in the presence of confounding factors and to quantify the impact of the choroidal circulation on the accuracy of the measurements. The presented strategy will be useful to anyone involved in studies based on the eye fundus diffuse reflectance. Here we demonstrate a long-depth-of-focus imaging method using polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT). This method involves a combination of Fresnel-diffraction-model-based phase sensitive computational refocusing and Jones-matrix based PS-OCT (JM-OCT). JM-OCT measures four complex OCT images corresponding to four polarization channels. These OCT images are computationally refocused as preserving the mutual phase consistency. This method is validated using a static phantom, postmortem zebrafish, and ex vivo porcine muscle samples. All the samples demonstrated successful computationally-refocused birefringence and degree-of-polarization-uniformity (DOPU) images. We found that defocusing induces polarization artifacts, i.e., incorrectly high birefringence values and low DOPU values, which are substantially mitigated by computational refocusing. The aims of this study are (i) to compare ultrasound strain elastography (US-SE) and compression optical coherence elastography (C-OCE) in characterization of elastically linear phantoms, (ii) to evaluate factors that can cause discrepancy between the results of the two elastographic techniques in application to real tissues, and (iii) to compare the results of US-SE and C-OCE in the differentiation of benign and malignant breast lesions. On 22 patients, we first used standard US-SE for in vivo assessment of breast cancer before and then after the lesion excision C-OCE was applied for intraoperative visualization of margins of the tumors and assessment of their type/grade using fresh lumpectomy specimens. For verification, the tumor grades and subtypes were determined histologically. We show that in comparison to US-SE, quantitative C-OCE has novel capabilities due to its ability to locally control stress applied to the tissue and obtain local stress-strain curves. For US-SE, we demonstrate examples of malignant tumors that were erroneously classified as benign and vice versa. For C-OCE, all lesions are correctly classified in agreement with the histology. The revealed discrepancies between the strain ratio given by US-SE and ratio of tangent Young's moduli obtained for the same samples by C-OCE are explained. Overall, C-OCE enables significantly improved specificity in breast lesion differentiation and ability to precisely visualize margins of malignant tumors compared. Such results confirm high potential of C-OCE as a high-speed and accurate method for intraoperative assessment of breast tumors and detection of their margins.Female infertilities are highly associated with poor endometrial receptivity. A receptive endometrium is generally characterized by the normal uterine cavity, intact endometrial surface, appropriate endometrial thickness, and echo pattern. Acquiring comprehensive structural information is the prerequisite of endometrium assessment, which is beyond the ability of any single-modality imaging method. In this paper, we introduce a custom-made intrauterine dual-modality (OCT/ultrasound) endoscopic imaging system and achieve in vivo imaging of rabbit uteri, for the first time to our knowledge. The endometrial features of the injured uteri in both ultrasonic and OCT images are consistent with their corresponding pathology. The quantified parameters, including uterine thickness and endometrial surface roughness, show the correlation with the endometrial injury degree but with poor performance for injury classification. The combination of these parameters was proved to assess the degrees of endometrial injury more accurately. Our work shows the potential of the dual-modality system to be translated into a clinical tool, providing multiple quantitative imaging information and helping evaluate the endometrial receptivity and diagnose infertility.Every year, more than a million refractive eye surgeries using femtosecond lasers are performed but the intrastromal cutting process remains an area of development. We investigated the mechanisms of laser dissection in cornea by ultra-high-speed photography. We found that the intrastromal bubble forms multiple lobes along the elongated laser plasma and the overlying lobes expand along the corneal lamellae. Videography demonstrated that the cutting process relies on crack propagation in the stroma along the bubble lobes with the crack originating from the pre-existing bubble layer. These insights are important for further improvement of the cutting mechanisms in refractive surgery.Newborns in high-income countries are routinely screened for neonatal jaundice using transcutaneous bilirubinometery (TcB). In low-and middle-income countries, TcB is not widely used due to a lack of availability; however, mobile-phone approaches for TcB could help expand screening opportunities. We developed a mobile phone-based approach for TcB and validated the method with a 37 patient multi-ethnic pilot study. We include a custom-designed snap-on adapter that is used to create a spatially resolved diffuse reflectance detection configuration with the illumination provided by the mobile-phone LED flash. Monte-Carlo models of reflectance from neonatal skin were used to guide the design of an adapter for filtered red-green-blue (RGB) mobile-phone camera reflectance measurements. We extracted measures of reflectance from multiple optimized spatial-offset regions-of-interest (ROIs) and a linear model was developed and cross-validated. This resulted in a correlation between total serum bilirubin and mobile-phone TcB estimated bilirubin with a R 2= 0.42 and Bland-Altman limits of agreement of +6.4 mg/dL to -7.0 mg/dL. These results indicate that a mobile phone with a modified adapter can be utilized to measure neonatal bilirubin values, thus creating a novel tool for neonatal jaundice screening in low-resource settings.

At present, it has been found that managing patients with a redetected positive RNA test after recovery from foreign-imported coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in China is challenging. The purpose of the current study was to describe the clinical characteristics of these patients.

This retrospective cohort study included 137 COVID-19 patients who were discharged from the Xi'an Public Health Center from 28 July 2020 to 31 December 2021. We compared the clinical characteristics between positive retest patients and non-positive retest patients.

137 COVID-19 patients entered our study, 27 (19.7%) cases of COVID-19 with a redetected positive RNA test by the end of the follow-up period. Fever [(n = 31 (22.6%)], cough [n = 26 (18.9%)] and sore throat [n = 20 (14.5%)] were the most common initial symptoms among the foreign-imported COVID-19 patients, and there were almost no significant differences in initial symptoms between positive retest patients and non-positive retest patients. The positive retestur findings revealed that the clinical characteristics at the time of initial diagnosis were not closely related to redetected positive RNA tests after recovery from foreign-imported COVID-19 cases. Positive retest patients had virtually no symptoms and displayed no obvious disease progression during readmission. These findings provide important information and clinical evidence for the effective management of foreign-imported COVID-19 patients during their convalescent phase. This paper applies the situational teaching mode to obstetric clinical nursing. When explaining the nursing operation skills, according to the pre written script, design some common clinical nurse-patient conflicts and carry out situational simulation performances, so as to inspire students to think about how to effectively communicate with patients and their families and establish a harmonious nurse-patient relationship. At the same time, this paper also urges students to improve their initiative of autonomous learning and actively participate in the whole process of learning, rather than passively accept knowledge. Finally, the teaching methods of combining obstetric clinical nursing teaching with experimental teaching were compared to explore the effectiveness of situational teaching simulation teaching mode. Through the experimental comparative analysis, it can be seen that the obstetric clinical nursing teaching model based on situational teaching simulation has a certain effect and has a good guiding significance for the practical teaching of obstetric clinical nursing. In order to shorten the image registration time and improve the imaging quality, this paper proposes a fuzzy medical computer vision image information recovery algorithm based on the fuzzy sparse representation algorithm. Firstly, by constructing a computer vision image acquisition model, the visual feature quantity of the fuzzy medical computer vision image is extracted, and the feature registration design of the fuzzy medical computer vision image is carried out by using the 3D visual reconstruction technology. Then, by establishing a multidimensional histogram structure model, the wavelet multidimensional scale feature detection method is used to achieve grayscale feature extraction of fuzzy medical computer vision images. Finally, the fuzzy sparse representation algorithm is used to automatically optimize the fuzzy medical computer vision images. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a short image information registration time, less than 10 ms, and has a high peak PSNR. When the number of pixels is 700, its peak PSNR can reach 83.5 dB, which is suitable for computer image restoration.

This study is aimed at exploring the clinical effect of mechanical traction on lumbar disc herniation (LDH).

Related literatures were retrieved from PubMed, Medline, Embase, CENTRAL, and CNKI databases. Inclusion of literature topic was comparison of mechanical traction and conventional physical therapy for lumbar disc herniation. SC75741 Jadad scale was used to evaluate the quality of the included RCT studies. The Chi-square test was used for the heterogeneity test, and a random effect model was used with heterogeneity. Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were used to explore the causes of heterogeneity. If there was no heterogeneity, the fixed effect model was used, and funnel plots were used to test publication bias.

Visual analog scale (VAS) in the mechanical traction group was lower than that in the conventional physical therapy group (MD = -1.39 (95% CI (-1.81, -0.98)),

= 6.56, and

< 0.00001). There was no heterogeneity among studies (Chi

= 6.62,

= 0.25, and

= 24%) and no publication bias.
