In this review, the recent progress in the studies of lung-protective effects and underlying mechanisms of resveratrol and also highlight the potency of resveratrol and traditional Chinese prescriptions containing resveratrol as promising therapeutic options were summarized for the treatment of lung and respiratory diseases.Radiographic imaging for scoliosis screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management is the gold standard assessment tool. Children are not more susceptible to radiation damage than adults. Radiophobia concerns from patients, parents, and doctors over repeat imaging for scoliosis treatment and management is not justified; it adds unnecessary anxiety to the patient (and their parents) and interferes with optimal medical management. Glycyrrhizin significantly prevented TNF-α-induced expression of HMGB1 (691.5 ± 136.4 vs 142.8 ± 57.3 pg/mL), IL-6 (388.1 ± 85.2 vs 189.4 ± 61.2 pg/mL) and IL-1β (176.3 ± 47.2 vs 53.9 ± 25.7 pg/mL) in hPDLSC. In CP rats, glycyrrhizin significantly decreased HMGB1 (5795.6 ± 1121.5 vs 586.4 ± 436.8 pg/mL), TNF-α (421.8 ± 93.7 vs 87.9 ± 21.6 pg/mL), IL-6 (1423.8 ± 235.2 vs 622.6 ± 176.1 pg/mL) and IL-1β (1562.8 ± 334.3 vs 733.5 ± 265.1 pg/mL) in gingival crevicular fluid. Glycyrrhizin suppresses inflammatory activities in CP rats and represents a promising molecule for controlling CP.
Verification of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers for multiple sclerosis and other neurological diseases is a major challenge due to a large number of candidates, limited sample material availability, disease and biological heterogeneity, and the lack of standardized assays. Furthermore, verification studies are often based on a low number of proteins from a single discovery experiment in medium-sized cohorts, where antibodies and surrogate peptides may differ, thus only providing an indication of proteins affected by the disease and not revealing the bigger picture or concluding on the validity of the markers. We here present a standard approach for locating promising biomarker candidates based on existing knowledge, resulting in high-quality assays covering the main biological processes affected by multiple sclerosis for comparable measurements over time.
