Cox multivariate regression analysis revealed that the PNI (

=0.003) and Campanacci stage (

=0.001) were independent prognostic factors for GCT.

PNI can be regarded as a novel independent prognostic factor for predicting postoperative recurrence in GCT.

The new concept of separation surgery has changed the surgical paradigms for the treatment of metastatic epidural spinal cord compression (MESCC), shifting from aggressive cytoreductive surgery towards less invasive surgery with the aim to achieve circumferential separation of the spinal cord and create a safe target for high dose Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), which turned out to be the real game-changer for disease's local control.

In this review a qualitative analysis of the English literature has been performed according to the rating of evidence, with the aim to underline the increasingly role of the concept of separation surgery in MESCC treatment. A review of the main steps in the evolution of both radiotherapy and surgery fields have been described, highlighting the important results deriving from their integration.

Compared with more aggressive surgical approaches, the concept of separation surgery together with the advancements of radiotherapy and the use of SBRT for the treatment of MESCC showed promising results in order to achieve a valuable local control while reducing surgical related morbidities and complications.

Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone sarcoma. Currently, the main treatment option for high-grade osteosarcomas is neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by surgical resection of the lesion and adjuvant chemotherapy. Limb salvage surgery (LSS) and amputation are the main surgical techniques; however, controversy still exists concerning the best surgical method. Our meta-analysis compared the effectiveness of LSS and amputation combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with limb osteosarcoma, in terms of 5-year overall survival (OS), 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) and local recurrence rate.

Following the established methodology of PRISMA guidelines, a literature search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane, Google Scholar from 1975 until January 2020. Two independent reviewers evaluated the study quality based on the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Odds ratio and 95% confidence interval of the OS, DFS and local recurrence rate were calculated.

Thirteen studies were finally included with a total of 2ssociated with a higher 5-year overall survival and the odds of local recurrence may be increased but these results should be interpreted with caution due to high heterogeneity. An unneutered female cat of unknown age presented bloody lesions on the edematous face, and respiratory signs. Cytology and culture from the skin sample collected with fine-needle aspiration showed yeasts inside activated macrophages, and fungal growth characteristic of Histoplasma spp., which was molecularly confirmed that was Histoplasma capsulatum var. capsulatum. The cat was successfully treated with oral itraconazole (10 mg/kg/daily) for 120 days. This is the first case report of feline histoplasmosis confirmed molecularly in Brazil.Child mortality has remained persistently high in most sub-Saharan African countries. Majority of the effort in analyzing the determinants, or covariables did not consider the duration of exposure to mortality risks. In addition, covariates are usually linked to the mean of the response variable, thereby neglecting the possible association with other higher moments. In this paper, we account for the duration of exposure via the child mortality index, defined as the ratio of observed to expected child death, for all women captured in the 2013 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey. Based on this index, a structured additive distributional beta regression model was adopted to examine covariate effects on the probability of a woman experiencing no child mortality, the conditional expectation of mortality, and the mortality spread, controlling for latent spatial associations. Our inferential framework is Bayesian inference, powered by generic MCMC tools based on iterative weighted least squares. Results confirm the existence of significant variation in the likelihood of a woman experiencing no child mortality, and in the spread of mortality, across Nigerian states. Findings also show that although mortality is fairly spread among women aged ≥30 years, it is concentrated among the younger women. The application of nanotechnology for antimicrobial delivery has capacity to improve antibacterial efficacy. Currently, the usage of various inorganic and organic carriers, such as metal ions, nano-silicon and surfactants, might increase the potential toxicity of nanoparticles and make their clinical transformation more difficult. Herein, a nano-delivery system was constructed by direct self-assembly of antibacterial phytochemicals (berberine and rhein) originated from traditional Chinese medicine Coptis chinensis Franch. and Rheum palmatum L., respectively. Combining X-ray single crystal diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance and other spectra characterizations, the stacked structure of nanoparticles was profoundly demonstrated. Briefly, rhein acted as the layered backbone and berberine embedded in it. In vitro bacteriostasis experiment showed the minimum bactericidal concentration of nanoparticles was 0.1 μmol/mL, which was lower than that of berberine and rhein. The results of confocal laser scanning microscope, biofilm quantitive assay and scanning electron microscopy indicated that nanoparticles had strong inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus biofilm. check details More importantly, transmission electron microscopy and mass spectra indicated the further bacteriostatic mechanism of nanoparticles. Meanwhile, the nanoparticles had well biocompatibility and safety. Current study will open up new prospect that the design of self-assemblies between active phytochemicals can be originated from traditional Chinese medicine combination.
