ALCAM expression was not associated with prognosis for other head and neck tumor sites. CONCLUSION ALCAM overexpression seems to be an independent prognosis biomarker for LSCC patients.Fungal natural products and their effects have been known to humankind for hundreds of years. For example, toxic ergot alkaloids produced by filamentous fungi growing on rye poisoned thousands of people and livestock throughout the Middle Ages. However, their later medicinal applications, followed by the discovery of the first class of antibiotics, penicillins and other drugs of fungal origin, such as peptidic natural products, terpenoids or polyketides, have altered the historically negative reputation of fungal "toxins". The development of new antimicrobial drugs is currently a major global challenge, mainly due to antimicrobial resistance phenomena. Therefore, the structures, biosynthesis and antimicrobial activity of selected fungal natural products are described here.Chemical profiling of the Streptomyces sp. strain SUD119, which was isolated from a marine sediment sample collected from a volcanic island in Korea, led to the discovery of three new metabolites donghaecyclinones A-C (1-3). The structures of 1-3 were found to be rearranged, multicyclic, angucyclinone-class compounds according to nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS) analyses. The configurations of their stereogenic centers were successfully assigned using a combination of quantum mechanics-based computational methods for calculating the NMR shielding tensor (DP4 and CP3) as well as electronic circular dichroism (ECD) along with a modified version of Mosher's method. Donghaecyclinones A-C (1-3) displayed cytotoxicity against diverse human cancer cell lines (IC50 6.7-9.6 μM for 3).Reports on the association of TGF-β1 polymorphisms with breast cancer (BC) have been conflicting, inconsistent, inconclusive, and controversial. PubMed, EMBASE, and Google Scholar were used to identify studies on TGF-β1 polymorphisms and BC risk. Data were extracted independently, and of the initial 3043 studies, 39 case-control studies were eligible for inclusion in the meta-analysis. Information from these studies was extracted, and the overall associations of three TGF-β1 polymorphisms (TGF-β1 29>T/C, TGF-β1-509 C/T, and TGF-β1*6A) with BC risk were analyzed using overall allele, homozygous, heterozygous, recessive, and dominant models. None of the three TGF-β1 polymorphisms studied had a significant influence on the development of BC. However, stratified analysis revealed a positive correlation between the TGF-β1 29T>C polymorphism and BC risk according to a heterozygous model of the Asian population (odds ratio (OR) = 1.115, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.006-1.237, p = 0.039). Interestingly, this polymorphism was associated with lower odds of BC according to a heterozygous model of the Middle Eastern population (OR = 0.602, 95% CI = 0.375-0.966, p = 0.035). Thus, our analysis of large datasets indicates that the TGF-β1 29T>C polymorphism is significantly associated with BC risk in the Asian population. In contrast, the TGF-β1*6A and TGF-β1-509 C/T polymorphisms failed to show an association with BC.Low energy ion measurements in the vicinity of a comet have provided us with important information about the planet's evolution. The calibration of instruments for thermal ions in the laboratory plays a crucial role when analysing data from in-situ measurements in space. SEL120-34A in vivo A new low energy ion source based on carbon nanotube electron emitters was developed for calibrating the ion-mode of mass spectrometers or other ion detectors. The electron field emission (FE) properties of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for H2, He, Ar, O2, and CO2 gases were tested in the experiments. H2, He, Ar, and CO2 adsorbates could change the FE temporarily at pressures from10-6 Pa to10-4 Pa. The FE of CNT remains stable in Ar and increases in H2, but degrades in He, O2, and CO2. All gas adsorbates lead to temporary degradation after working for prolonged periods. The ion current of the ion source is measured by using a Faraday cup and the sensitivity is derived from this measurement. The ion currents for the different gases were around 10 pA (corresponding to 200 ions/cm3 s) and an energy of ~28 eV could be observed.A liquid nitrogen cooling system was developed to ensure the successful ultrasonic testing of composite materials to characterize the very High Cycle Fatigue (VHCF) of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP). The fatigue failure of CFRP occurs even in the very high cycle range and there is no traditional fatigue limit. The S-N curve of the CFRP presents a step whose characteristics appear in the transition between high cycle and very high cycle fatigue. The damage evolution of CFRP in the same field of view is investigated. The morphology of damaged CFRP composites under ultrasonic loading is described by three characteristics matrix damage at the intersection of fiber bundles, near fiber bundle parallel section matrix cavity and matrix penetration. With the increasing of cycles, the damage process is also presented in turn according to these three characteristics. The post-fatigue bending modulus changed significantly from the pre-fatigue values, indicating that the VHCF had a considerable impact on the mechanical properties of the composite. An evolution threshold was introduced from the S-N curve to determine the fatigue evolution law from the high cycle regime to the very high cycle regime.Twelve microalgae species isolated in tropical lagoons of New Caledonia were screened as a new source of antioxidants. Microalgae were cultivated at two light intensities to investigate their influence on antioxidant capacity. To assess antioxidant property of microalgae extracts, four assays with different modes of action were used 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azino-bis (3-éthylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonique) (ABTS), oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), and thiobabituric acid reactive substances (TBARS). This screening was coupled to pigment analysis to link antioxidant activity and carotenoid content. The results showed that none of the microalgae studied can scavenge DPPH and ABTS radicals, but Chaetoceros sp., Nephroselmis sp., and Nitzschia A sp. have the capacity to scavenge peroxyl radical (ORAC) and Tetraselmis sp., Nitzschia A sp., and Nephroselmis sp. can inhibit lipid peroxidation (TBARS). Carotenoid composition is typical of the studied microalgae and highlight the siphonaxanthin, detected in Nephroselmis sp., as a pigment of interest. It was found that xanthophylls were the major contributors to the peroxyl radical scavenging capacity measured with ORAC assay, but there was no link between carotenoids and inhibition of lipid peroxidation measured with TBARS assay. In addition, the results showed that light intensity has a strong influence on antioxidant capacity of microalgae Overall, antioxidant activities measured with ORAC assay are better in high light intensity whereas antioxidant activities measured with TBARS assay are better in low light intensity. It suggests that different antioxidant compounds production is related to light intensity. The study determined the effect of the addition of 15% of camelina, flax, and sunflower seeds to iso-caloric and iso-nitrogenous diets for broiler chickens during 21-42 days of age on the nutrient digestibility, production traits, slaughter analysis parameters, hematological indices, blood mineral elements, and dietary value of breast and drumstick meat. Two hundred one-day-old broiler chickens were assigned to four groups (treatments) with five replicates (10 birds per cage, 5 females and 5 males). The experiment lasted 6 weeks. Broiler chickens receiving diets supplemented with camelina and flax seeds exhibited an increase (p less then 0.05) in average body weight and a decrease (p less then 0.05) in the ether extract content and energy digestibility of the diets. Moreover, the best carcass quality with a high proportion of muscles and low abdominal fat content (p less then 0.05) was noted in broilers fed flax- and sunflower-enriched diets. The treatments with the oil seeds reduced the ether extract content and the calorific value of breast and drumstick muscles. The flax seeds contributed to an increase in the Fe content in drumstick muscles. link2 Additionally, some blood parameters were influenced by the flax seed supplementation, e.g., the level of hemoglobin declined (p less then 0.05) and the iron level in plasma increased (p less then 0.05). It can be concluded that the camelina, flax, and sunflower seeds can be regarded as good dietary components with positive effects on the dietary value of poultry meat. The mechanism features of colloidal quantum dots (QDs) passivation with thioglycolic acid molecules (TGA) for cases of different luminescent properties is considered using FTIR. This problem is considered based on FTIR spectra analysis for various ionic forms of TGA. Experimental TGA molecules FTIR spectra is interpreted, basing on the data on modeling of TGA vibrational modes, realized in the framework of density functional method (DFT /B3LYP/6-31+G(d)) taking into account the vibrations anharmonicity of every functional group. This approach provides a significant improvement in the agreement between the experimental and calculated data. FTIR spectra of Ag 2 S/TGA QDs with exciton and recombination luminescence are differ from each other and B "freeB" TGA molecules. The ν ( S - H ) TGA peak (2559 cm - 1 ) disappears in FTIR spectra of Ag 2 S/TGA QD samples. This fact indicates the interactions between TGA thiol group and dangling bonds of Ag 2 S nanocrystals. Ag 2 S QDs passivation with TGA molecules leads tQDs with exciton luminescence, the degradation process is non-reversible. link3 It is accompanied by TGA photodegradation with the formation of α -thiol-substituted acyl radical (S-CH 2 -CO • ) TGA.The development of cost-effective diets for mass-rearing fruit flies (Diptera Tephritidae) and their parasitoids in pest control programs based on the Sterile Insect Technique is a high priority worldwide. To this end, we tested carrageenan, agar, gelatin and two types of pregelatinized corn starches as gelling agents at varying percentages in a yeast-reduced liquid larval diet for rearing the Mexfly, Anastrepha ludens. Only diets with 0.234% (w/w) agar or 0.424% carrageenan were identified as diets with potential for mass-rearing A. ludens in terms of the number of pupae recovered from the diet, pupal weight, adult emergence, flight ability and diet cost. Comparative experiments showed that yeast-reduced agar and carrageenan gel diets produced heavier pupae and higher proportions of flying adults than the standard mass-rearing diet. The gel-agar and mass-rearing diets produced more pupae than the gel-carrageenan diet, but the latter produced more suitable larvae as hosts for rearing of Diachasmimorpha longicaudata (Hymenoptera Braconidae) females, a widely used fruit fly biocontrol agent. Yeast-reduced agar and carrageenan gel diets could represent cost-effective fruit fly mass-rearing diets if a practical system for gel diet preparation and dispensation at fruit fly mass-rearing facilities is developed.
