Although further studies should be conducted to determine the values of predictive biomarkers of NEC, and/or the recommended doses and strains of probiotics, lactoferrin or oligosaccharides, the knowledge acquired in recent years is encouraging.Sustainably addressing the crisis of undernutrition for children and adolescents in underserved and resource-limited communities will require, among other investments, interventions aimed at optimizing the diets of these vulnerable populations. However, to date, there are substantial global gaps in the collection of dietary data in children and adolescents. This review article summarizes the challenges and opportunities in assessing diet among children and adolescents in India. National surveys in India identify the scale of the triple burden of malnutrition (undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies and overnutrition) in children and adolescents and assess key nutrition and food security indicators for making informed policy decisions. However, national surveys do not collect data on diet, instead relying on anthropometry, biomarkers of micronutrient deficiencies, and summary measures of diet, such as the WHO infant and young child feeding summary indicators. Sub-national surveys and the scientific literatu analysis, but to date, there are no platforms designed for population-level dietary assessment in India. Public and private sector investment in dietary assessment, as well as collaboration of researchers and the creation of open-source platforms for the sharing of data inputs (local food lists, recipe databases, etc.) will be essential to build infrastructure to better understand the diets of children and adolescents in India and improve dietary interventions in these target groups.

In primary antibody deficiencies (PADs), pulmonary complications are the main cause of morbidity, despite immunoglobulin substitutive therapy, antibiotic treatment of exacerbations, and respiratory physiotherapy. Current Italian recommendations for surveillance of PADs respiratory complications include an annual assessment of spirometry and execution of chest high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) every 4 years.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the lung clearance index (LCI) as an early marker of lung damage in patients with PADs. LCI is measured by multiple breath washout (MBW), a non-invasive and highly specific test widely used in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF).

Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute febrile systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology. After the pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), some children infected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) showed clinical symptoms similar to KD, indicating a close relationship between KD and SARS-CoV-2. Therefore, we designed this retrospective study to analyze the characteristics of KD patients before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

We retrospectively collected demographic and laboratory data of KD patients in Yuying Children's Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2020. Yuying Children's Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University is located in eastern China and is the largest pediatric heart disease center in the region, which includes a population of nearly 10 million. We studied the characteristics of KD patients and analyzed the changes in these characteristics before and after the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 in this area.

The analysis revealed the following novel features (1) Under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the onset age of Kawasaki disease became younger. (2) After the occurrence of COVID-19, the hospitalization days of KD patients were shorter than before the pandemic. click here (3) After the occurrence of COVID-19, the albumin of KD patients was higher than before the pandemic. (4) The COVID-19 pandemic did not have a significant effect on the incidence of coronary artery lesions (CALs) in Kawasaki disease.

The second purpose was to examine the utility of these measures for predicting RMD status within a sample of 577 students when RMD status was assessed at the end of second grade in terms of reading and math accuracy. When set at or below the 16th percentile, first-grade risk for RMD was two times more common than chance; at or below the 7th percentile, it was five times more common. Logistic regression showed that the two first-grade fluency measures accurately distinguished students with and without RMD in second grade; however, when cut scores were set to capture 85% of students with RMD, false positives were high. Overall, the results provide support for the use of fluency measures as an initial gating procedure in first grade, but additional gating steps appear necessary in the screening process to reduce false positives.Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are strains of naturally occurring soil bacteria that live in close vicinity to the plant's rhizosphere region which possess the capability to augment host growth. This study was conducted to isolate and identify potential PGPR isolates indigenous to Metroxylon sagu, Rottb. rhizosphere. These potential isolates were characterised based on their beneficial plant growth promoting (PGP) properties and identified by molecular analysis via 16S rDNA sequencing. A total of 18 isolates were successfully isolated, out of which five isolates were tested, and designated as (S1A, S2B, S3A, S3C and S42). Among the five isolates, two isolates (S2B and S3C) were found to produce high levels of indole-3-acetic acid (2.96 μg/mL and 10.31 μg/mL), able to fix nitrogen and show significant activity in phosphate solubilisation. The analysis of their sequences via National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) suggested their close identity towards Lysinibacillus sphaericus and Bacillus thuringiensis. It can be concluded that the isolated PGPR possesses beneficial PGP attributes. It can be implied that the isolated PGPR are potential to be used as inoculant biofertilisers, beneficial for Metroxylon sagu, Rottb. growth. Hence, further studies need to be done to evaluate the effectiveness of the beneficial microbes towards sago seedlings growth, under pot experiment.Insects of the taxonomic order Coleoptera are recognised for considerable cellulolytic activity in their digestive fluid. The cellulolytic activity of the gut fluid in Hoplasoma unicolor, a member of Coleoptera, however, remains unexplored. In this study, we, for the first time, report the qualitative and quantitative analysis of cellulolytic activity in the digestive fluid of this insect. The cellulolytic endo-1,4-β-D-glucanase activity was confirmed in the supernatant of the insect's digestive fluid by agar plate assay using carboxymethyl cellulose as the substrate. To determine the optimum pH, enzyme activity was further assessed in an acidic pH range of 5 to 6, and the highest activity was observed at pH 5.3. For quantitative analysis, endoglucanase activity was measured using 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid method which revealed that the specific activity of the gut sample was 0.69 (±0.01) units per mg of protein. For further characterisation of the cellulases in the sample, SDS-PAGE and zymogram analysis were carried out. Two active cellulolytic bands were detected on the zymogram suggesting the presence of two distinct endoglucanases which completely disappeared upon heating the sample at 55°C. Our study, therefore, highlights prospect of the gut fluid of H. unicolor as an important source of cellulase enzymes that merits further investigations into their extensive characterisation for potential industrial applications.The use of endophytic bacteria in agriculture provides an effective way of improving crop yield and significantly reducing chemical usage, such as fungicides. This research was conducted to explore endophytic bacteria with plant growth promotion (PGP) and antifungal activities against Fusarium moniliforme AIT01. In this study, we obtained 52 isolates of endophytic bacteria associated with the roots and stems of sugarcane from Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand. In vitro antagonistic activity test showed that 14 out of 52 isolates had antagonistic activity against the fungal pathogen F. moniliforme AIT01. These antagonistic endophytic bacteria were identified as belonging to six different species as follows Nguyenibacter vanlangensis, Acidomonas methanolica, Asaia bogorensis, Tanticharoenia aidae, Burkholderia gladioli and Bacillus altitudinis based on phenotypic characteristics, along with phylogenetic analysis of their 16S rRNA gene sequences. Seven isolates effectively inhibited F. moniliforme AIT01 mycelial growth by up to 40%. The volatile compounds of six isolates reduced the growth of F. moniliforme AIT01 by over 23%. Moreover, riceberry rice seedlings previously treated with B. gladioli CP28 were found to strongly reduce infection with phytopathogen by 80% in comparison to the non-treated control. Furthermore, the isolates also showed relevant PGP features, including ammonia production, zinc and phosphate solubilisation, auxin and siderophore biosynthesis. These results demonstrated that the tested endophytic bacteria could be successfully utilised as a source of PGP and biocontrol agent to manage diseases caused by F. moniliforme.Hoya imperialis (H. imperialis) and H. coronaria (Apocynaceae) are known to have ornamental value due to their beautiful flowers; however, the feasibility of propagating these plants have not been reported despite the wild populations in Brunei Darussalam being highly threatened due to habitat loss and overcollection. Thus, the present study aimed to conduct a preliminary study of the feasibility of two alternative propagation methods, stem cutting and micropropagation, as a potential approach for their ex situ conservation. Hoya stem cuttings were treated with either indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) or 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) (0-2000 mg/L), and then propagated onto a mixture of peat moss and perlite. For micropropagation, Hoya leaf explants were cultured onto Murashige and Skoog (MS) agar media that were supplemented with IBA and/or kinetin (KN) (0-10.0 mg/L).
