Nanofibers mats derived from the task-specific functionalized polymeric ionic liquids based on homocysteine thiolactone are obtained by electrospinning them as blends with polyvinylpyrrolidone. The presence of this functional moiety allowed the post-functionalization of these mats through the aminolysis of the thiolactone ring in the presence of an amine by a thiol-alkene "click" reaction. Under controlled experimental conditions the modification can be performed introducing different functionalization and crosslinking of the electrospun fibers, while maintaining the nanostructure obtained by the electrospinning. Initial studies suggest that the nanofibers based on these functionalized polymeric ionic liquids can be used in both sensing and catalytic applications.Microcapsules with lac resin as the core material and urea-formaldehyde resin as the wall material were prepared by in situ polymerization, and then the lac resin microcapsules and fluorane microcapsules were added into a water-based primer or topcoat, respectively, to prepare water-based coatings with dual functions of thermochromic and self-repair. The effects of different methods of adding microcapsules on the optical properties, mechanical properties, self-repairing properties, and the aging resistance of water-based paint film were investigated, so as to prepare water-based paint film with the best discoloration and self-repairing functions. The results showed that the paint film with 10.0% fluorane microcapsules in the topcoat and 5.0% lac resin microcapsules in the primer had better comprehensive properties, and the paint film changed from yellow to colorless at 32 °C, with a color difference of 68.9, hardness of 3H, adhesion grade of 0, impact resistance of 13.0 kg∙cm, and elongation at break of 20.0%. The resistance of the paint film to NaCl, ethanol, and detergent was grade 2, with slight discontinuous marks, and the resistance to red ink was grade 3, with slight marks. The lac resin microcapsules have good aging resistance, which can enhance the aging resistance of the paint film with fluorane microcapsules. The gap width of the paint film was repaired by 2.1 µm, the self-repairing rate was 12.3%, and the paint film with lac resin microcapsules had a better crack inhibition effect. The results have provided a reference for multifunctional wood coatings.Nonmetallic materials recycled from waste printed circuit boards (N-WPCBs) were modified by coating KH-550 in a spout-fluid bed. To improve the effect of the modification, PP particles were used to enhance the fluidization quality of the N-WPCB particles in the coating modification. Then, the modified N-WPCBs were used as fillers to fabricate PP/N-WPCB composites. The method of coating in a spout-fluid bed with PP particles enhanced fluidization and showed the best modification effect compared to other coating methods. The FT-IR and SEM results demonstrated that interfacial bonding between N-WPCBs and PP could be enhanced by modified N-WPCBs, which improved the mechanical properties of the composites. When the mass ratio of PP to N-WPCBs is 10075 and the dose of KH-550 is 4 phr, the flexural strength, tensile strength, and impact strength of the composites increase by 16.60%, 23.22%, and 23.64%, respectively. Suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid This would realize the high-value utilization of N-WPCBs with coating modification in the spout-fluid bed.Wheat is a highly relevant crop worldwide, and like other massive crops, it is susceptible to foliar diseases, which can cause devastating losses. The current strategies to counteract wheat diseases include global monitoring of pathogens, developing resistant genetic varieties, and agrochemical applications upon diseases' appearance. However, the suitability of these strategies is far from permanent, so other alternatives based on the stimulation of the plants' systemic responses are being explored. Plants' defense mechanisms can be elicited in response to the perception of molecules mimicking the signals triggered upon the attack of phytopathogens, such as the release of plant and fungal cell wall-derived oligomers, including pectin and chitin derivatives, respectively. Among the most studied cell wall-derived bioelicitors, oligogalacturonides and oligochitosans have received considerable attention in recent years due to their ability to trigger defense responses and enhance the synthesis of antipathogenic compounds in plants. Particularly, in wheat, the application of bioelicitors induces lignification and accumulation of polyphenolic compounds and increases the gene expression of pathogenesis-related proteins, which together reduce the severity of fungal infections. Therefore, exploring the use of cell wall-derived elicitors, known as oligosaccharins, stands as an attractive option for the management of crop diseases by improving plant readiness for responding promptly to potential infections. This review explores the potential of plant- and fungal-derived oligosaccharins as a practical means to be implemented in wheat crops. This paper deals with the prediction of methylene blue (MB) dye removal under the influence of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) through deep neural network (DNN). In the first step, TiO2 NPs were prepared and their morphological properties were analysed by scanning electron microscopy. Later, the influence of as synthesized TiO2 NPs was tested against MB dye removal and in the final step, DNN was used for the prediction. DNN is an efficient machine learning tools and widely used model for the prediction of highly complex problems. However, it has never been used for the prediction of MB dye removal. Therefore, this paper investigates the prediction accuracy of MB dye removal under the influence of TiO2 NPs using DNN. Furthermore, the proposed DNN model was used to map out the complex input-output conditions for the prediction of optimal results. The amount of chemicals, i.e., amount of TiO2 NPs, amount of ehylene glycol and reaction time were chosen as input variables and MB dye removal percentage was evaluated as a response. DNN model provides significantly high performance accuracy for the prediction of MB dye removal and can be used as a powerful tool for the prediction of other functional properties of nanocomposites. In this study, polymer-assisted dispersants are used to stabilize the nanohybrids of platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs)/carbon nanotubes (CNTs) through non-covalent bond forces. These dispersants aim to replace the florine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass in traditional dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) as counter electrodes. link2 The large specific surface area, high conductivity, and redox potential of PtNPs/CNT nanohybrids are used as the basis to utilize them as the counter electrode material to fabricate a dye-sensitized solar cell. The conductivity results indicate that the resistance of the PtNP/CNT nanohybrid film can be reduced to 7.25 Ω/sq. When carbon nanotubes are mixed with platinum nanoparticles at a weight ratio of 5/1, the photoelectric conversion efficiency of DSSCs can reach 6.28%. When using the FTO-containing substrate as the counter electrode, its conversion efficiency indicates that the micro-/nano-hybrid material formed by PtNPs/CNTs also exhibits an excellent photoelectric conversion efficiency (8.45%) on the traditional FTO substrate. Further, a large-area dye-sensitive cell is fabricated, showing that an 8 cm × 8 cm cell has a conversion efficiency of 7.95%. link3 Therefore, the traditional Pt counter electrode can be replaced with a PtNP/CNT nanohybrid film, which both provides dye-sensitive cells with a high photoelectric conversion efficiency and reduces costs. The interest in developing antimicrobial surfaces is currently surging with the rise in global infectious disease events. Radiation-induced graft copolymerization (RIGC) is a powerful technique enabling permanent tunable and desired surface modifications imparting antimicrobial properties to polymer substrates to prevent disease transmission and provide safer biomaterials and healthcare products. This review aims to provide a broader perspective of the progress taking place in strategies for designing various antimicrobial polymeric surfaces using RIGC methods and their applications in medical devices, healthcare, textile, tissue engineering and food packing. Particularly, the use of UV, plasma, electron beam (EB) and γ-rays for biocides covalent immobilization to various polymers surfaces including nonwoven fabrics, films, nanofibers, nanocomposites, catheters, sutures, wound dressing patches and contact lenses is reviewed. The different strategies to enhance the grafted antimicrobial properties are discussed with an emphasis on the emerging approach of in-situ formation of metal nanoparticles (NPs) in radiation grafted substrates. The current applications of the polymers with antimicrobial surfaces are discussed together with their future research directions. It is expected that this review would attract attention of researchers and scientists to realize the merits of RIGC in developing timely, necessary antimicrobial materials to mitigate the fast-growing microbial activities and promote hygienic lifestyles.Additive manufacturing (AM) or 3D printing is a digital manufacturing process and offers virtually limitless opportunities to develop structures/objects by tailoring material composition, processing conditions, and geometry technically at every point in an object. In this review, we present three different early adopted, however, widely used, polymer-based 3D printing processes; fused deposition modelling (FDM), selective laser sintering (SLS), and stereolithography (SLA) to create polymeric parts. The main aim of this review is to offer a comparative overview by correlating polymer material-process-properties for three different 3D printing techniques. Moreover, the advanced material-process requirements towards 4D printing via these print methods taking an example of magneto-active polymers is covered. Overall, this review highlights different aspects of these printing methods and serves as a guide to select a suitable print material and 3D print technique for the targeted polymeric material-based applications and also discusses the implementation practices towards 4D printing of polymer-based systems with a current state-of-the-art approach. The selection of nanofillers and compatibilizing agents, and their size and concentration, are always considered to be crucial in the design of durable nanobiocomposites with maximized mechanical properties (i.e., fracture strength (FS), yield strength (YS), Young's modulus (YM), etc). Therefore, the statistical optimization of the key design factors has become extremely important to minimize the experimental runs and the cost involved. In this study, both statistical (i.e., analysis of variance (ANOVA) and response surface methodology (RSM)) and machine learning techniques (i.e., artificial intelligence-based techniques (i.e., artificial neural network (ANN) and genetic algorithm (GA)) were used to optimize the concentrations of nanofillers and compatibilizing agents of the injection-molded HDPE nanocomposites. Initially, through ANOVA, the concentrations of TiO2 and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and their combinations were found to be the major factors in improving the durability of the HDPE nanocomposites.
