3%) patients in the PIPAC-Ox + 5-FU/L group (p=0.73). The complete histological response rates according to the peritoneal regression grading score were 27% for the PIPAC-Ox + 5-FU/L group and 18% for the PIPAC-Ox group (p=0.74). No statistically significant differences were observed in overall or progression-free survival between the two groups.

The safety and feasibility of PIPAC-Ox + 5-FU/L appears to be similar to the safety and feasibility of PIPAC-Ox alone in patients with unresectable cPM. Oncological outcomes must be evaluated in larger studies.

Here, by using the generalized additive model (GAM), we investigated the contributions and driving mechanisms of climate change and human activities on TON, TN, and TP accumulation in sediments of typical lakes in the Huai River basin (Nansi Lake and Hongze Lake) from 1988 to 2018. The impacts of factors, such as air temperature (AT), real GDP per capita (GDP), population density (PD), crop sown area (CSA), artificial impervious area (AIA), and domestic sewage discharge (DSD) were considered in this study. The results of the multivariate GAM showed that the sediment variables were significantly affected by climate change in Nansi Lake, but not in Hongze Lake. AT and DSD contributed the most to the variation of sediment TOC in Nansi Lake, while the most critical factors affecting TN and TP were AT, PD and DSD. PD and CSA showed strong ability to explain the change of TOC in Hongze Lake, while CSA and DSD showed strong ability to explain the variations of TN and TP. The results show that the selected optimal multivariate GAM can well quantify the effects of climate change and human activities on nutrient enrichment in lake sediments. Effective recommendations are provided for decision-makers in developing water quality management plans to prevent eutrophication outbreaks in lake waters by targeting and controlling key factors.Using a solid-phase molecular imprinting technique, high-affinity nanoparticles (nanoMIPs) selective for the target antibiotics, ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin, and ofloxacin have been synthesised. These have been applied in the development of a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor for the detection of the three antibiotics in both river water and milk. The particles produced demonstrated good uniformity with approximate sizes of 65.8 ± 1.8 nm, 76.3 ± 4.1 nm, and 85.7 ± 2.5 nm, and were demonstrated to have affinities of 36.2 nM, 54.7 nM, and 34.6 nM for the ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin, and ofloxacin nanoMIPs, respectively. Cross-reactivity studies highlighted good selectivity towards the target antibiotic compared with a non-target antibiotic. Using spiked milk and river water samples, the nanoMIP-based SPR sensor offered comparable affinity with 66.8 nM, 33.4 nM, and 55.0 nM (milk) and 39.3 nM, 26.1 nM, and 42.7 nM (river water) for ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin, and ofloxacin nanoMIPs, respectively, to that seen within a buffer standard. Estimated LODs for the three antibiotic targets in both milk and river water were low nM or below. The developed SPR sensor showed good potential for using the technology for the capture and detection of antibiotics from food and environmental samples.Vitiligo is acquired depigmentation due to multiple factors. Vitamin D in skin, through its receptors (VDR), regulates cell growth, differentiation, immune response and exerts both stimulatory and protective effects on melanocytes. The gene sequence encoding VDR has polymorphic forms such as ApaI and TaqI that may affect vitamin D actions. Narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy became the mainstay of vitiligo treatment because of its efficacy and little side effects. The current work aimed at evaluating the possible association between VDR gene polymorphisms (TaqI and ApaI) and susceptibility of vitiligo and if they could be predictors of response to NB-UVB phototherapy in Egyptian vitiligo patients. 100 vitiligo patients indicated for NB-UVB phototherapy and 100 healthy age and sex matched controls were included. All participants were subjected to history taking, general and dermatological examinations, and VDR ApaI and TaqI gene polymorphisms analysis by PCR-RFLP. The patients received NB-UVB 3times per week for 6 months then revaluated. There was significant increase in Aa genotype of ApaI polymorphism in patients associated with significant increase in vitiligo activity. 66% of patient showed variable degrees of response to NB-UVB. The responders significantly had AA genotype of ApaI polymorphism. TaqI polymorphism showed nonsignificant effects on vitiligo susceptibility and response to NB-UVB. A allele of ApaI was significant independent predictor of NB-UVB phototherapy responders. DLThiorphan VDR gene polymorphism (ApaI) may share in vitiligo pathogenesis and response to NB-UVB. Knowing the genetic background of the patient helps individualization of treatment to get better results.B-lines in lung ultrasound (LU) are non-specific but highly informative sign of interstitial pulmonary oedema (iPE). Sustained exposure to a high-volume left-to-right patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) shunt is associated with iPE. Cardiorespiratory deterioration, named post-ligation cardiac syndrome (PLCS), may follow surgical ligation between 6 and 12 h post-operatively. We conducted a pilot longitudinal evaluation of peri-procedural LU score change. Infants

A sustained fall in LUS after PDA ligation was identified, which most likely reflects reduction in pulmonary blood flow and interstitial edema. Changes in LUS paralleled changes in LVO, suggesting physiologic linkage. These data suggest that LU may be a useful tool to guide monitoring the biologic nature of pulmonary disease after PDA ligation.

• Sustained exposure to a high-volume left-to-right patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) shunt is associated with interstitial pulmonary oedema. • In the most immature patients, cardiorespiratory deterioration, named post-ligation cardiac syndrome, presents 6-12 h post-operatively.

• An early and sustained fall in lung ultrasound score (LUS) after PDA ligation most likely reflects reduction in pulmonary blood flow and interstitial oedema. LUS changes parallel changes in left ventricular output, suggesting linkage. • LU is a promising adjunctive tool in the post-operative management of PDA ligation.

The silent onset and irreversible progression of DKD are characterized by a steady decline of the estimated glomerular filtration rate, with or without concomitant albuminuria. The diabetic milieu allows the complex pathophysiology of DKD to enter a vicious cycle by inducing the synthesis of excessive amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS) causing oxidative stress, inflammation, and fibrosis. As no cure is available, intensive research is required to develop novel treatments possibilities. This chapter provides an overview of the important pathomechanisms identified in diabetic kidney disease, the currently established therapies, as well as recently developed novel therapeutic strategies in DKD.Technologies allowing studies at single-cell resolution have provided important insights into how different cell populations contribute to tissue function. Application of these methods to white adipose tissue (WAT) has revealed how various metabolic aspects of this organ, such as insulin response, inflammation and tissue expansion, are regulated by specific WAT resident cells, including different subtypes of adipocytes, adipocyte progenitors as well as immune and endothelial cells. In this chapter, we provide an overview of the different technical approaches, their strengths and weaknesses, and summarize how these studies have improved our understanding of WAT function in health and disease.Solid organ transplantation and survival has improved tremendously in the last few decades, much of the success has been attributed to the advancements in immunosuppression. While steroids are being replaced and much of the immunosuppressive strategies focus on steroid free regimens, novel agents have introduced in the induction, maintenance, and treatment of acute rejection phase. MTOR inhibitors have helped with the renal sparing side effect from the calcineurin inhibitors, newer agents such as rituximab have decreased the incidence of donor-specific antibodies which led to decreased incidence of acute rejection reactions. In this chapter we discuss the newer therapies directed specifically for solid organ transplantation.

Compare the differences in the morphology of the ACL femoral footprint between the cadavers of the young and elderly in consideration of the degenerative physiological process that occurs with aging.

The femoral footprint of the ACL was dissected in 81 knees of known gender and age (45 male/36 female). They were divided into four groups by age and gender, establishing 50years as the cut-off point to divide patients by age. Three observers analyzed the femoral footprint dissections, and the shapes were described and classified. The area and morphometric characteristics of the femoral insertion of the ACL were determined and these were compared between genders and age groups.

The femoral footprint of the ACL from the cadavers of males younger than 50years of age presented a semicircular morphology in 90% of the cases. In males aged more than 50years, a ribbon-like morphology was found in 96% of the cases. In women less than 50years old, the semicircular morphology was observed in 93.7% of the cases. In woaracteristics over time. It goes from a large semicircular shape that almost contacts the posterior articular cartilage to a smaller, flattened ribbon-like shape that moves away from the edge of the articular cartilage. It is bounded anteriorly by the lateral intercondylar ridge. These findings should be considered to avoid employing reconstruction techniques in which femoral tunnels with oval or rectangular shapes are used in patients under 50 years of age because they do not correspond to the morphology of the femoral insertion of the ACL in this age group.

In urology, a subset of patients with lifelong urine drainage are fitted with acatheter valve. Data on catheter-related quality of life (crqol) in this subset of patients are missing.

Clarification of the whether there are advantages for valve-aided catheters in comparison with continuous urine drainage in catheter wearers with a lifelong indication.

In all, 357patients with acatheter with lifelong indication of continuous urine drainage from aprevious study were compared with 70valve-aided patients. The crqol was evaluated by avalidated assessment with 25items and five domains.

There were statistically more patients with asuprapubic catheter than with a transurethral indwelling catheter (73.4 vs. 54.4%, p = 0.005), significantly more patients with bladder voiding dysfunction (73.5 vs. 52.6%, p = 0.003) and significantly more patients with small catheter sizes (p = 0.001). Crqol was altogether slightly impaired with amedian score of 4.2 (no impairment indicated by 5points) in valve-aided patients, but crqol was more impaired in valve-aided patients compared to patients with continuous drainage (4.
