The linear ranges were 5-60 μg/ml for SUM and 5-50 μg/ml for ZOL in the spectrophotometric method (Method I), whereas this was 0.4-4 μg/ml for SUM and 0.5-5 μg/ml for ZOL in the spectrofluorimetric method (Method II). The method validity was assessed according to International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) guidelines. Statistical analysis of the results obtained from the proposed and comparison methods confirmed that the proposed methods were highly accurate and precise. The impact of anosmia on quality-of-life (QoL) for patients with aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD) is poorly understood. We aimed to investigate how the severity of smell loss and olfactory dysfunction (OD) in patients with AERD affects their QoL, mental health and physical well-being.

Five validated QoL questionnaires (Sinonasal Outcome Test-22, Asthma Control Test, Healthy Days Core Module-4, Short Form-36 and Patient Health Questionnaire-4) and two newly developed questionnaires assessing severity and consequences of OD were electronically sent to all 2913 patients in the Brigham and Women's Hospital AERD registry. Responses were received from 853 participants for analysis.

Overall, 85% of participants reported a present diminished sense of smell and/or taste, and 30% categorized their OD severity was, "as bad as it can be." There were significant relationships between the severity of self-reported OD and both psychological distress and general health scores, even after adjusting for asthma control. Additionally, incidence rates for physically and mentally unhealthy days in the prior month were higher for patients with moderate or severe OD than for normosmic patients. Patients with diminished smell responded that they could not identify spoiled food (86%), did not enjoy food (71%), felt unsafe (63%) and had encountered dangerous situations (51%) as consequences of their OD.

To analyse the prevalence of prescribed medications among people with type 2 diabetes, their relationship to HbA1c levels and transitions between medications.

The data included all 18- to 85-year-old adults with type 2 diabetes (identified from the electronic health records), who lived in North Karelia, Finland, between 2013 and 2019. Type 2 diabetes medication was defined based on prescriptions. Logistic and linear regressions with generalized estimating equations were used to assess the differences between years.

Metformin as a monotherapy was the most used medication (33%-35%) with the largest percentage of those in good glycaemic control. After metformin, the most used medications were long-acting and short-acting insulin and gliptin (16%-24% per group). In insulin groups, there were the smallest percentage of people in good glycaemic control. The use of SGLT2-i increased most during the follow-up (from 1.6% to 11%), but at the same time the percentage of those meeting the target HbA1c level decreased the most (from 83% to 53%). The use of GLP-1 RA and other medications were under 3.5%. SGLT2-i and insulin were the most stable medication groups. The most common transitions were from SGLT2-i to long-acting insulin and between insulin groups.

In Argentina, the pandemic began in March 2020 and, during the first 3 months, the vast majority of cases were concentrated in a densely populated region that includes the city of Buenos Aires (country capital) and the Greater Buenos Aires (GBA) area that surrounds it. This work focuses on the spread of COVID-19 between June and November 2020 in GBA. Within this period of time there was no vaccine, basically only the early wild strain of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was present, and the official restriction and distancing measures in this region remained more or less constant. Under these particular conditions, the incidences show a sharp rise from June 2020 and begin to decrease towards the end of August until the end of November 2020. In this work we study, through mathematical modelling and available epidemiological information, the spread of COVID-19 in this region and period of time. We show that a coherent explanation of the evolution of incidences can be obtained assuming that only a minority fraction of the population got involved in the spread process, so that the incidences decreased as this group of people was becoming immune. The observed evolution of the incidences could then be a consequence at the population level of lasting immunity conferred by SARS-CoV-2.There is limited information on the volume of antibiotic prescribing that is influenza-associated, resulting from influenza infections and their complications (such as streptococcal pharyngitis and otitis media). Here, we estimated age/diagnosis-specific proportions of antibiotic prescriptions (fills) for the Kaiser Permanente Northern California population during 2010-2018 that were influenza-associated. The proportion of influenza-associated antibiotic prescribing among all antibiotic prescribing was higher in children aged 5-17 years compared to children aged under 5 years, ranging from 1.4% [95% CI (0.7-2.1)] in aged less then 1 year to 2.7% (1.9-3.4) in aged 15-17 years. For adults aged over 20 years, the proportion of influenza-associated antibiotic prescribing among all antibiotic prescribing was lower, ranging from 0.7% (0.5-1) for aged 25-29 years to 1.6% (1.2-1.9) for aged 60-64 years. Most of the influenza-associated antibiotic prescribing in children aged under 10 years was for ear infections, while for age groups over 25 years, 45-84% of influenza-associated antibiotic prescribing was for respiratory diagnoses without a bacterial indication. In this study, partially delocalized Co-S-Se ultra-thin nanosheets are obtained via a liquid-liquid interface-mediated strategy at an oil-water interface. These Co-S-Se ultra-thin nanosheets exhibit different-sized lamellar structures and have an average thickness of 0.83 nm. The ternary ultra-thin Co0.45S0.38Se0.17 nanosheets demonstrate excellent performance for the OER, accompanied by an overpotential of 290 mV (1.52 V vs. RHE) at 10 mA cm-2, and a Tafel slope of 74.5 mV dec-1. In the meantime, the catalyst recombined with a stoichiometry NiOx catalyst to form a composite interface, which also exhibited a good OER performance, with an overpotential of 260 mV at 10 mA cm-2 and a smaller Tafel slope of 53.
