mentagophytes and S. aureus. Moreover, the essential oil of leaves had the moderate activity against C. albicans and E. coli. The results showed that the chemical compositions of the essential oils differed decidedly between the two studied species and between the organs. Furthermore, the essential oil of E. maritimum may play an important role as antimicrobial agent. We develop a deep learning refined kinematic model for accurately assessing upper limb joint angles using a single Kinect v2 sensor. We train a long short-term memory recurrent neural network using a supervised machine learning architecture to compensate for the systematic error of the Kinect kinematic model, taking a marker-based three-dimensional motion capture system (3DMC) as the golden standard. A series of upper limb functional task experiments were conducted, namely hand to the contralateral shoulder, hand to mouth or drinking, combing hair, and hand to back pocket. Our deep learning-based model significantly improves the performance of a single Kinect v2 sensor for all investigated upper limb joint angles across all functional tasks. selleck chemicals Using a single Kinect v2 sensor, our deep learning-based model could measure shoulder and elbow flexion/extension waveforms with mean CMCs >0.93 for all tasks, shoulder adduction/abduction, and internal/external rotation waveforms with mean CMCs >0.8 for most of the tasks. The mean deviations of angles at the point of target achieved and range of motion are under 5° for all investigated joint angles during all functional tasks. Compared with the 3DMC, our presented system is easier to operate and needs less laboratory space. Our knowledge of voiding is derived from studies comprised of cisgender males and females, with relatively little known about the impact of sexual and gender minority status on voiding perceptions, symptoms, and function [...].Contactless ultrasonic power transmission (UPT) through a metal barrier has become an exciting field of research, as metal barriers prevent the use of electromagnetic wireless power transfer due to Faraday shielding effects. In this paper, we demonstrate power transfer through a metal wall with the use of ultrasonic waves generated from a piezoelectric transducer. Accurate characterization and modeling of the transducer and investigation of the influence of the acoustic properties of the transmitting medium are instrumental for the performance prediction and optimal design of an ultrasonic power link. In this work, we applied the KLM model for the emitting and receiving transducers, with respect to the transmitting medium and model for both the emission and reception function. A practical UPT system was built by mechanically coupling and co-axially aligning two composite transducers on opposite sides of a transmitting medium wall. The optimal transmission performance of the ultrasonic power link through thickness-stretch vibrations of the wall together with two piezoelectric transducers working in TE mode was determined. Eventually, the operating frequency and ohmic loading condition for maximum power transmission were obtained for two different media, aluminium and polyoxymethylene (POM), with contrasting specific acoustic impedances. The results showed that the measured optimal electric loads and operating frequency for maximum power transfer agreed well with the theoretical predictions.Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a humanitarian emergency, which started in Wuhan in China in early December 2019, brought into the notice of the authorities in late December, early January 2020, and, after investigation, was declared as an emergency in the third week of January 2020. The WHO declared this as Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on 31th of January 2020, and finally a pandemic on 11th March 2020. As of March 24th, 2020, the virus has caused a casualty of over 16,600 people worldwide with more than 380,000 people confirmed as infected by it, of which more than 10,000 cases are serious. Mainly based on Chinese newspapers, social media and other digital platform data, this paper analyzes the timeline of the key actions taken by the government and people over three months in five different phases. It found that although there was an initial delay in responding, a unique combination of strong governance, strict regulation, strong community vigilance and citizen participation, and wise use of big data and digital technologies, were some of the key factors in China's efforts to combat this virus. Being inviable and non-measurable (unlike radioactive exposure), appropriate and timely information is very important to form the basic foundation of mitigation and curative measures. Infodemic, as it is termed by WHO, is a key word, where different stakeholder's participation, along with stricter regulation, is required to reduce the impact of fake news in this information age and social media. Although different countries will need different approaches, focusing on its humanitarian nature and addressing infodemic issues are the two critical factors for future global mitigation efforts.Synthesis of conjugated polymer-coated latex particles is an effective method to improve the poor processability of conjugated polyheterocycles. The key to success is to control the overlayer thickness so it is less than the size of the solvated layer of polymeric stabilizer. This paper presents a protocol to coat polymer latex particles with poly(2-aminothiazole) (PAT), which is a relatively new heterocyclic conjugated polymer. The protocol is based on chemical oxidative polymerizations of 2-aminothiazole using copper chloride as the oxidant at a fixed oxidant/monomer molar ratio of 0.5 in aqueous media in the presence of poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone)-functionalized polystyrene (PS) latex. The effects of monomer concentration, PS concentration, and polymerization temperature on the morphology of the PAT-coated PS composite particles were investigated by SEM and TEM, and the resulting composite particles characterized by FTIR and XPS. Optimization of the initial monomer concentration allowed colloidally stable PAT-coated PS composite particles to be formed at ambient temperature, and the PAT loading was easily adjusted by varying the initial PS concentration. The Hg(II) adsorption properties of selected PAT-coated PS composite particles were assessed preliminarily. The maximum adsorption capacity at 25 °C reached 440.25 mg/g, which is much higher than many other adsorbents.Orbital angular momentum (OAM) is gaining great attention in the physics and electromagnetic community owing to an intriguing debate concerning its suitability for widening channel capacity in next-generation wireless communications. While such a debate is still a matter of controversy, we exploit OAM generation for microwave imaging within the classical first order linearized models, i.e., Born and Rytov approximation. Physical insights into different fields carrying ℓ-order OAM are conveniently exploited to propose possible alternative imaging approaches and paradigms in microwave imaging.Autoimmune blistering dermatoses (ABDs) are characterized by autoantibodies to keratinocyte surface antigens and molecules within the dermal-epidermal junction causing disruption of skin integrity. The affinity of Fc receptors (FcRs) causing an autoimmune response in ABDs may vary based on single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in FcRs determining the course of disease. This study aimed to explore the effects of CD16A and CD32A SNPs on the autoimmune response in several ABDs. In total, 61 ABDs patients were investigated. ELISA tests, direct immunofluorescence (DIF), TaqMan SNP Genotyping Assays, and statistical analyses were performed. The CA genotype (composed of allele C and A) of rs396991 in CD16A had a higher affinity for tissue-bound IgG1 in pemphigus and for C3 in subepithelial ABDs, showing statistical significance. The greatest relative risk (odds ratio) was reported for AA (rs396991 of CD16A) and CC (rs1801274 of CD32A) homozygotes. There were no statistically significant differences between certain genotypes and specific circulating autoantibodies (anti-DSG1, anti-DSG3 IgG in pemphigus; anti-BP180, anti-BP230 IgG) in subepithelial ABDs. Our findings indicated that rs396991 in CD16A may be of greater importance in ABDs development. Moreover, FcR polymorphisms appeared to have a greater impact on tissue-bound antibodies detected using DIF than circulating serum antibodies in ABDs.An optical fibre sensor for monitoring relative humidity (RH) changes during exercise is demonstrated. The humidity sensor comprises a tip coating of poly (allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH)/silica nanoparticles (SiO2 NPs) deposited using the layer-by-layer technique. An uncoated fibre is employed to compensate for bending losses that are likely to occur during movement. A linear fit to the response of the sensing system to RH demonstrates a sensitivity of 3.02 mV/% (R2 = 0.96), hysteresis ± 1.17% RH when 11 bilayers of PAH/SiO2 NPs are coated on the tip of the fibre. The performance of two different textiles (100% cotton and 100% polyester) were tested in real-time relative humidity measurement for 10 healthy volunteers. The results demonstrate the moisture wicking properties of polyester in that the relative humidity dropped more rapidly after cessation of exercise compared to cotton. The approach has the potential to be used to monitor sports performance and by clothing developers for characterising different garment designs. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the four kinds of additives on the silage quality and the relevant bacterial community diversity by Illumina HiSeq 16S rRNA sequencing. The four kinds of additives were Lactobacillus plantarum (LP), organic acids including gallic acid (GA) and phenyllactic acid (PA), pectin (PEC), and enzymes including pectinase (PEE) and cellulase (CE). After 30 d of fermentation, the pH value was shown to have the lowest value in the PEE and PEC groups, followed by the PA group, and then in CE and GA groups; the highest value of pH was found in both LP and control groups. The ammonia nitrogen concentration was lower in the PEE group compared to the other groups except for the PA group. In the comparisons among the seven groups, Lactobacillus was higher in the LP group, Paracoccus was higher in the GA group, Weissella was higher in the PA group, Leuconostoc was higher in the PEC group, Bacillus, Aeromonas, and Curvibacter were higher in the PEE group, and Coriobacteriaceae_UCG_002 was higher in the CE group compared to the other groups. This study proposed that the addition of PEC and PEE improved the fermentation quality of alfalfa silage compared to other additives by improving the bacterial community of Leuconostoc, and Bacillus and Aeromonas, respectively. Moreover, the enhanced fermentation quality of alfalfa silage by the supplementation of PEC and PEE might be attributed to other unclassified genera. This study provides an implication that pectin degradation is an important determinant for alfalfa silage fermentation through the rescheduling of bacterial community diversity.Peer education (PE) interventions may help improve knowledge and appropriate use of antibiotics in young adults. In this feasibility study, health-care students were trained to educate 16-18 years old biology students, who then educated their non-biology peers, using e-Bug antibiotic lessons. Knowledge was assessed by questionnaires, and antibiotic use by questionnaire, SMS messaging and GP record searches. Five of 17 schools approached participated (3 PE and 2 control (usual lessons)). 59% (10/17) of university students and 28% (15/54) of biology students volunteered as peer-educators. PE was well-received; 30% (38/127) intervention students and 55% (66/120) control students completed all questionnaires. Antibiotic use from GP medical records (54/136, 40% of students' data available), student SMS (69/136, 51% replied) and questionnaire (109/136, 80% completed) data showed good agreement between GP and SMS (kappa = 0.72), but poor agreement between GP and questionnaires (kappa = 0.06). Median knowledge scores were higher post-intervention, with greater improvement for non-biology students.
