Axillary web syndrome (AWS) is one of the most prevalent and underrecognized disorders affecting breast cancer (BC) women. However, the optimal therapeutic strategy to manage AWS is far from being fully characterized. Therefore, this systematic review aims to provide a broad overview of the available rehabilitation treatments in this burdensome condition.

On 13 January 2022, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane, and PEDro were systematically searched for clinical studies assessing rehabilitation interventions in post-surgical BC women with AWS. The outcomes analyzed were pain, AWS clinical resolution, upper limb function, and health-related quality of life (HR-QoL).

The search identified 1115 records, of which 11 studies were included. A total of 174 patients were assessed (ages ranging from 37 and 66 years old). The interventions included manual lymphatic drainage, manual therapy, stretching, resistance training, mobilization techniques, and Kinesio tape. Positive improvements were reported in terms of pain relief (in 7 studies), AWS clinical resolution (in 9 studies), upper limb function (in 10 studies), and HR-QoL (in 2 studies).

Our findings suggest that rehabilitation might be considered an effective therapeutic strategy in AWS patients. Further RCTs are needed to characterize the optimal rehabilitative interventions.

Therefore, the possible association between MPO-ANCA, MPA, and idiopathic ILD remains unclear. This problematic matter has influenced the treatment strategy of MPO-ANCA-positive ILD patients without systemic vasculitis. Clinicians should undertake treatment with careful consideration of the four major causes of death in MPO-ANCA-positive ILD acute exacerbation of ILD, progressive lung fibrosis, infectious comorbidities, and diffuse alveolar hemorrhage. Further, clinicians need to carefully judge whether inflammation or fibrosis is the dominant condition with reference to the patient's clinical domain and radiopathological lung features. Recently, anti-fibrotic agents such as nintedanib and pirfenidone were shown to be effective in treating various etiologies associated with ILD and have thus led to the widening of treatment options. In this review, the clinical characteristics, radiopathology, prognosis, and therapeutic options in patients with MPO-ANCA-positive ILD are summarized using limited information from previous studies.

Medication beliefs are known as predictors of medication adherence. However, understanding of the relevance of these beliefs is lacking. Therefore, this study aimed to identify medication beliefs, and their influencing factors, in stroke survivors.

This was a secondary analysis, using baseline data from a longitudinal study conducted to predict long-term medication adherence in Korean stroke survivors, and included 471 patients. Medication beliefs were investigated using the Belief about Medicine Questionnaire (BMQ), and the belief score and attitudes were derived from the "necessity" and "concern" scores, which are subscales of the BMQ. Multiple linear regression was used to determine independent factors influencing medication beliefs.

The mean score of medication beliefs is 7.07 ± 6.32, and the accepting group comprises 288 patients (61.1%). Medication beliefs are significantly higher in older adults (

< 0.001), females (

= 0.001), and patients with non-type D personality (

= 0.023), low-state anxiety (

< 0.001), high stroke severity (

= 0.001), a high number of medications (

< 0.001), and high knowledge about medications (

= 0.001).

This study shows that type D personality, state anxiety, and knowledge about medication are major mediating factors for improving medication beliefs. These results may help healthcare professionals develop strategies to enhance medication adherence, by improving patients' medication beliefs.

The present study was carried out to explore the association between miR-125a polymorphic sequence variation and its expression and recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) compared to full-term healthy controls. A total of 150 women that had experienced two or more RPLs and 180 healthy controls (two or more full-term pregnancies) were recruited, along with 50 product of conception (POC) samples from the corresponding RPL patients, and evaluated for miR-125a SNPs by the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method (PCR-RFLP), which was confirmed by high resolution melting (HRM)/DNA sequencing. Additionally, the expression of miR-125a was quantified with q-PCR in the maternal plasma of 40 corresponding RPL patients against healthy controls. The frequency of variant genotype CC was significantly higher in RPL cases (19.3%) than controls (10.5%), with an odds ratio of >2 (p = 0.025). Due to the importance of choroidal thickness in the development of myopia, this study examined the effect of MiSight contact lenses (CLs) on the choroidal thickness of myopic children and the differences between responders and non-responders to the treatment with these CLs.

A total of 41 myopic children were fitted with MiSight CLs and 33 with single-vision spectacles. They were followed up for two years. Subfoveal choroidal thickness and choroidal thickness 1 and 3 mm temporal and nasal to the fovea were measured by OCT at baseline and one and two years after the treatment. Differences in all the choroidal thickness parameters were assessed in each group over time. Patients from the MiSight group were classified based on a specific range of changes in axial length at the end of the second year of treatment as "responders" (AL change &lt; 0.22 mm/per year) and "non-responders", and the choroidal thickness of both groups was analyzed.

The subfoveal choroidal thickness of the MiSight and single-vision spectacle groups did not show any changes over time. Wearing MiSight CLs induced relative choroidal thickening in the responder group in the first year of treatment.

We previously reported that CIAPIN1 is detectable in the sera and that its overexpression was associated with poor prognosis and metastasis of CCA patients. In this study, we investigated further its expression in CCA tissues, biological functions, and related signaling pathways in CCA cells. First, we examined CIAPIN1 expression in CCA tissues of 39 CCA patients using immunohistochemistry (IHC). Then, CIAPIN1-related proteins expressed in CCA cells were identified using RNA interference (siRNA) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). To predict the functions and signaling pathways of CIAPIN1 in CCA cells, the identified proteins were analyzed using bioinformatics tools. Then, to validate the biological functions of CIAPIN1 in the CCA cell line, transwell migration/invasion assays were used. CIAPIN1 was overexpressed in CCA tissues compared with adjacent noncancerous tissues. Its overexpression was correlated with lymph node metastasis. Bioinformatic analyses predicted that CIAPIN1 is connected to the TGF-β/SMADs signaling pathway via nitric oxide synthase 1 (NOS1) and is involved in the metastasis of CCA cells. In fact, cell migration and invasion activities of the KKU-100 CCA cell line were significantly suppressed by CIAPIN1 gene silencing. Our results unravel its novel function and potential signaling pathway in metastasis of CCA cells. CIAPIN1 can be a poor prognostic factor and can be a promising target molecule for CCA chemotherapy.

Medical versus surgical management of pediatric periorbital infection secondary to acute bacterial rhinosinusitis (ABRS) can be a dilemma for clinicians. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic factors related to the need for surgical drainage and to help direct management decisions.

Children admitted for periorbital infection secondary to ABRS between 2001 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed. Demographics, clinical presentations, laboratory data, comorbidities, and computed tomography results were collected from medical records.

A total of 141 pediatric patients were enrolled. Forty-two patients (29.8%) required surgical intervention. Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified that delayed initiation of intravenous antibiotics from the onset of periorbital swelling (odds ratio [OR] = 1.94;

&lt; 0.001) and proptosis at initial presentation (OR = 6.63;

= 0.008) were significantly associated with the need for surgical intervention. A C-reactive protein value of &gt; 55.73 mg/L and initiation of intravenous antibiotic treatment &gt; 2 days from the onset of periorbital swelling showed the best predictive power for surgery.
