rong enough to match conventional RT outcomes, but follow-up studies will evaluate the combination of mini-GRID with immune checkpoint blockade.Valleytronic as a hot topic in recent years focuses on electrons' valley degree of freedom as a quantum information carrier. Here, by combining two-bandk.pmodel with high-throughput density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the valley states of Janus 2H-VSSe monolayer are studied which have spontaneous polarization. Nonvolatile valley polarization state is mainly arises from intrinsic ferromagnetism contributed by V-3d electronic configuration and not the spontaneous out-of-plane dipole moment of VSSe monolayer. The effective Hamiltonian model and DFT calculations both showed that the valley splitting mainly originates from the smaller spin splitting coming from the spin-orbit coupling effect rather than the spin splitting of magnetic exchange field. By using the effective Dirac Hamiltonian and Kubo formula, we further calculated the longitudinal and transversal conductivities and absorption spectra of VSSe monolayer which exhibits an anomalous valley Hall effect and clear valley-selective circular dichroism. Our calculations indicate that the modification of valley and spin splitting related to Berry curvature by applying an external strain is more noticeable than by the change of the magnetic moment orientation and electric field. We found that carriers accumulation with particular spin and valley label can be manipulated by tuning effective Hamiltonian parameters. The coexistence of robust in-plane magnetic ordering and spontaneous valley polarization of 2H-VSSe monolayer supports the possibility of applications in spintronics, valleytronics and optoelectronics devices.Objective.Somatosensory perception is disrupted in patients with a lower limb amputation. This increases the difficulty to maintain balance and leads to the development of neuromuscular adjustments. We investigated how these adjustments are reflected in the co-activation of lower body muscles and are modulated by visual feedback.Approach.We measured electromyography (EMG) signals of muscles from the trunk (erector spinae and obliquus external), and the lower intact/dominant leg (tibialis anterior and medial gastrocnemius) in 11 unilateral transfemoral amputees and 11 age-matched able-bodied controls during 30 s of upright standing with and without visual feedback. Muscle synergies involved in balance control were investigated using wavelet coherence analysis. We focused on seven frequencies grouped in three frequency bands, a low-frequency band (7.56 and 19.86 Hz) representing more sub-cortical and spinal inputs to the muscles, a mid-frequency band (38.26 and 62.63 Hz) representing more cortical inputs, and a high-frequency band (92.90, 129 and 170.90 Hz) associated with synchronizing motor unit action potentials. Further, the dynamics of changes in intermuscular coupling over time were quantified using the Entropic Half-Life.Main results.Amputees exhibited lower coherency values when vision was removed at 7.56 Hz for the muscle pair of the lower leg. At this frequency, the coherency values of the amputee group also differed from controls for the eyes closed condition. Controls and amputees exhibited opposite coherent behaviors with visual feedback at 7.56 Hz. For the eyes open condition at 129 Hz, the coherency values of amputees and controls differed for the muscle pair of the trunk, and at 170.90 Hz for the muscle pair of the lower leg. Amputees exhibited different dynamics of muscle co-activation at the low frequency band when vision was available.Significance.Altogether, these findings point to the development of neuromuscular adaptations reflected in the strength and dynamics of muscular co-activation.The search forsp3-hybridized carbon allotropes other than diamond has attracted extensive interest because of their fascinating properties. In this paper, an orthorhombic carbon phase insp3bonding, named pentaheptite diamond, by combining the particle swarm optimization method with first-principles calculations has been predicted. The phonon spectra, total energy and elastic constants calculations of the pentaheptite diamond confirm its dynamical, thermal and mechanical stability at zero pressure, respectively. It possesses a high bulk modulus of 385 GPa and Vickers hardness of 72.6 GPa, comparable to diamond. Electronic band structure calculations show that the pentaheptite diamond has a direct band gap of 4.18 eV.The article presents a new medical device through an authorial and interdisciplinary approach. It consists of a flexible external fixator, whose flexible property may bring advantages over rigid mechanisms. Its design was inspired by the DNA biological mechanism of condensation, while the modeling was based on the pseudo-rigid modeling technique. From the models obtained, this study conducted prototyping and computational tests to obtain a proof-of-concept of the bioinspired theory and dynamic functioning effectiveness. The prototyping relied on hot glue manufacturing and the computational simulations consisted of linear static analysis. learn more The experimental analysis concluded that the prototype with fewer beams and thinner beams delivered better results in all three parameters flexibility, height variation and rotation arc. In the computational analysis, among the design models with the variation of the number of beams, the model with 8 beams performed better. Concerning thickness variation, the one whose beams measured 8 mm in thickness showed better results. Among the models with length variation, the design made with 100 mm long beams better equilibrated the parameters. Most aggressive cancers are incurable due to their fast evolution of drug resistance. We model cancer growth and adaptive response in a simplified cell-based (CB) setting, assuming a genetic resistance to two chemotherapeutic drugs. We show that optimal administration protocols can steer cells resistance and turned it into a weakness for the disease. Our work extends the population-based model proposed by Orlandoet al(2012Phys. Biol.), in which a homogeneous population of cancer cells evolves according to a fitness landscape. The landscape models three types of trade-offs, differing on whether the cells are more, less, or equal effective when generalizing resistance to two drugs as opposed to specializing to a single one. The CB framework allows us to include genetic heterogeneity, spatial competition, and drugs diffusion, as well as realistic administration protocols. By calibrating our model on Orlandoet al's assumptions, we show that dynamical protocols that alternate the two drugs minimize the cancer size at the end of (or at mid-points during) treatment. These results significantly differ from those obtained with the homogeneous model-suggesting static protocols under the pro-generalizing and neutral allocation trade-offs-highlighting the important role of spatial and genetic heterogeneities. Our work is the first attempt to search for optimal treatments in a CB setting, a step forward toward realistic clinical applications.Laser ablation is often explained by a two-temperature model (TTM) with different electron and lattice temperatures. To realize a classical molecular dynamics simulation of the TTM, we propose an extension of the embedded atom method to construct an interatomic potential that is dependent on the electron temperature. This method is applied to copper, and its validity is demonstrated by comparison of several physical properties, such as the energy-volume curve, phonon dispersion, electronic heat capacity, ablation threshold, and mean square displacement of atoms, with those of finite-temperature density functional theory.Short time treatment with reduced dosages of selol-loaded PLGA nanocapsules (NcSel) combined with magnetic hyperthermia (MHT) is evaluated in aged Erhlich tumor-bearing mice. Clinical, hematological, biochemical, genotoxic and histopathological parameters are assessed during 7 d treatment with NcSel and MHT, separately or combined. The time evolution of the tumor volume is successfully modeled using the logistic mathematical model. The combined therapy comprising NcSel and MHT is able to hinder primary tumor growth and a case of complete tumor remission is recorded. Moreover, no metastasis was diagnosed and the adverse effects are negligible. NcSel plus MHT may represent an effective and safe alternative to cancer control in aged patients. Future clinical trials are encouraged.
Most athletes sleep poorly around competition. The aim of this study was to examine sleep before/after games during an entire season in elite Australian Rules footballers (N = 37) from the same team.
Sleep was monitored using activity monitors for 4 consecutive nights (beginning 2 nights before games) during 19 rounds of a season. Differences in sleep on the nights before/after games, and differences in sleep before/after games as a function of game time (day vs evening), location (local vs interstate), and outcome (win vs loss), were examined using linear mixed effects models.
Players fell asleep earlier (+1.9h; P < .001), and woke up later (+1h; P < .001) on the night before games compared with the night of games. Players obtained less sleep on the night of games than on the night before games (5.2h vs 7.7h; P < .001), and this reduction was exacerbated when games were played in the evening-after evening games, players obtained approximately 40 minutes less sleep than after day games (P < .001). Sleep duration on the nights before and after games was not affected by game location or game outcome, but players had later sleep onset (P < .001) and offset times (P < .001) on most nights when sleeping away from home.
Elite footballers obtain good sleep on the night before games but obtain approximately 30% less sleep on the night of games. Given the role of sleep in recovery, it will be important to determine whether a reduction in sleep duration of this magnitude impairs recovery on the days following games.

Venom-induced consumption coagulopathy and acute kidney injury are the most frequently encountered complications of viper bites. Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) is an unusual presentation reported rarely in the literature. Our case report highlights the uncommon presentation of delayed pulmonary hemorrhage after snakebite envenoming. A 40-year-old healthy man presented to our emergency department after 6 hours of Echis sochureki (a saw-scaled viper subspecies) bite. He had abnormal coagulation parameters and thrombocytopenia with no signs of acute kidney injury. Transfusion protocols were initiated because of active bleeding and a rapid decrease in hemoglobin levels over next few days. Around day 10, his coagulation profile and hemoglobin were corrected, but he developed hemoptysis with rapidly progressive respiratory distress. Computed tomography of the chest was suggestive of DAH and the patient was started on plasma exchange with pulse methylprednisolone.
