The proposed approach would thus be a useful addition in HCP analysis and secretome studies of mAb-producing Chinese hamster ovary cells.The ABC transporter, Scarlet, and its binding partner, White are involved in pigment synthesis in the insect eye and mutations in these genes are used as genetic markers. Recent studies have suggested that these transporters also have additional functions in the neuronal system. In our previous study, we generated scarlet mutant in the small crustacean, Daphnia magna and showed that the mutant lacked the eye pigment in the mutant. Here, we show that the scarlet mutant exhibits spinning behavior. This phenotype is partly associated with the presence of light. Metabolomic analysis of a juvenile mutant revealed that the scarlet mutant has approximately one-tenth of the histamine content of the wild type. Application of histamine to the scarlet mutant rescued the spinning behavior in juveniles, suggesting that the spinning behavior of the mutant is caused by the reduction of histamine. However, the altered behavior was not rescued in the adult mutant by the addition of histamine, suggesting that Scarlet plays an irreversible role in the development of histaminergic neurons. These results suggest that Scarlet plays an important role in histaminergic signaling, which might be related to control the spinning behavior, in addition to its role in eye pigmentation.Cosmeceutical field, which merges cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, is nowadays a highly investigated research area, because a scientific demonstration of the claimed bioactivity of new cosmeceutical ingredients is increasingly requested. In fact, an aspect differentiating traditional cosmetics from cosmeceuticals is the identification and characterization of the active ingredients and demonstrating its efficacy in the claimed activity. An interesting group of bioactive cosmeceutical ingredients are peptides, which due to their particular properties, meets most of the requirements presented by the cosmeceutical industry when composing new formulas. In this context, beside bioactivity, two additional aspects have been recently considered, when dealing with peptides as cosmeceutical ingredients bioavailability and stability. We describe herein novel methods applied in order to enhance peptides skin-penetration and stability, reviewing both scientific articles and patents, issued in the cosmeceutical arena.

To explore how the physical and social environment of acute mental health units influences consumers' perception and experience of safety.

Acute mental health units are places in which consumers should feel safe. Not all consumers, however, feel safe in this environment. Little is known about what contributes to consumers' feelings of safety in this setting.

Fifteen people who had experienced admission to an acute mental health unit were individually interviewed.

Having a supportive environment enhanced consumers' perception and experience of safety. A supportive environment was experienced when consumers had privacy, felt safe from other consumers and had meaningful activities to participate in within the acute mental health unit. In contrast, having their privacy breached by other consumers made participants feel unsafe. Many participants were fearful of other consumers, and felt unsafe and unable to protect themselves. Lack of meaningful activities led to boredom and contributed to consumers feeling unsafe.

Personal spaces should address consumers' privacy needs without compromising staff access. Staff presence enhances consumers' feelings of safety, but this need can be heightened when consumers are unable to alert staff when they feel unsafe. Meaningful activities link consumers to their lives outside of the hospital and can enhance recovery.

This study aims to explore the role of individual (work engagement, personal initiative), group (transformational, transactional, passive-avoidant leadership) and organisational factors (support for innovation climate) in fostering the two components of nurses' innovative behaviours, idea generation and idea implementation.

A cross-sectional study was conducted in an Italian public hospital, in two departments that had been created by merging other departments. A self-report questionnaire was completed by 118 nurses. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses.

Respondents reported a high frequency of idea generation followed by idea implementation. Personal initiative and passive-avoidant leadership were significantly and positively related to nurses' idea generation and idea implementation. Support for innovation was positively related to idea implementation. Transactional and transformational leadership did not show any relationships with the two innovative work behaviours.

This study shows that nurses' innovative work behaviour is a complex and multi determined behaviour, influenced by individual, group, and organisational factors. It also shows that low levels of passive-avoidant leadership may contribute to innovation.

Healthcare policies and strategies are needed to support a leadership style that allows space for autonomy, and that, together with support for innovation and personal initiative, facilitates nurses' idea generation and idea implementation.
