The straight-through design minimizes back pressure, boosting overall performance. One popular option though is to increase the size of the exhaust and open it up to flow better (i.e. less restrictive). With the 6.4 and many of the newer engines, there is emissions equipment that should not be removed.
However, if you receive a faulty product or the wrong product, we will send you a replacement. If you want the loudness of straight pipes without the poor sound quality, you will almost certainly be better off with a loud performance muffler like the Paradox Hot Tamale. This kit is the best bang-for-your-buck full exhaust upgrade for the price. You save $70 over purchasing the units separately, and it is only $5 more than buying downpipe plus the S6242P exhaust that doesn't include the exhaust tip add-on.
Not only has it been ultra-reliable (helping to revive the Power Stroke brand), but it’s also offered class-leading power figures for much of its production run. However, that doesn’t mean Ford’s V8 diesel is bulletproof. As soon as we told the owner of the truck about the new system being on the way, he got a little too excited. (See, we normally shoot an install article in one day. That's the removal and installation of the new system.) For this install, he pulled the vehicle on the lift and removed the muffler.
A muffler on those beasts would end up heading for the sky (or scarier – the spectators). The age-old argument for deleting the muffler from a truck or tractor was the claim of horsepower boosts. Whether more horsepower is achieved can be a subject of discussion, but it is certain the “tone” of your engine will change. Trucks are probably the most common vehicles to be fully straight piped from front to back. We carry exhaust systems from AFE, Diamond Eye, MBRP, Magnaflow, Mel's Manufacturing, and Silverline.
Pulled over went to tail pipe eyes start to water definitely fuel smoke. Brought up sft pids they are all over the place from -18 to +19 brought up power balance is even when enhanced is disabled have couple cylinders just slightly off. Cleared fuel tables and in short time they are all wacked. Told my advisor the fuel trims and fuel smoke makes me think it is going to need a complete fuel system.
Up-pipe is a piping that connects the exhaust manifold with the turbo. Down-pipe is a piping that connects the turbo with the rest of the exhaust pipe. Exhaust gases leave the turbo from the down-pipe.
Built to Perform You count on your truck to handle whatever you need it to do. With MBRP performance exhaust you can make that happen with up to 18 more horsepower and 28 ft/lb more torque not to mention lower EGTs. More pulling power, improved throttle response, greater fuel efficiency, with an MBRP diesel performance exhaust you will be amazed at what your truck can do. Minimize Backpressure The secret to getting more out of your diesel engine is to give it lots of cool, clean air. The only way that you can get fresh air in is to get the hot air out. From the spiral louvered high flow muffler to the fully mandrel bent tubing to minimal bend degree angles, your MBRP performance system gets exhaust out fast.
Please review our return policy for more information on the refund process. We offer a 1-year warranty on all our diesel parts. This warranty covers any manufacturing defects or malfunctions. Please refer to our warranty policy for more information. Best way to avoid this is to outright refuse to work on any vehicles coming in through the door with the emissions system either deleted outright, or modified in any way, shape or form. This way, we remove ourselves from any possible liabilities that can arise.
Your vehicle should have sounded this good from the factory. Give your vehicle a unique sound with an MBRP Tour Profile exhaust. Save big on that signature MBRP sound during Pick Up Your Sound.
And even though it’s graced with an electronic wastegate, it isn’t enough to bleed off all the drive pressure created at those turbine speeds. The ball bearing center section simply can’t endure the stress. Starting with the worst, we begin with the 6.7L Power Stroke’s CP4.2 high-pressure fuel pump. The twin-piston Bosch pump, which is responsible for pressurizing fuel as high as 30,000 psi, is notorious for self-destructing. And when it comes apart, metal debris flows out to the fuel rails, and is often sent through the engine’s expensive piezoelectric injectors. Worse yet, the fuel system’s return circuit is also contaminated, with the fuel tank, fuel supply (and return) lines and even the lift pump requiring replacement and/or cleaning.
We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item. Even though all years of the 6.4 Powerstroke were problematic, the main year to avoid was 2008, which was the first year it came out. The 2008 model was plagued with problems that mainly involved the emissions systems, which were frustrating and costly to fix. The stock radiator on the 6.4 Powerstroke didn’t hold up well against regular wear and tear.
The 6.4 Powerstroke Downpipe Back Exhaust system isn't just about removing restrictive factory components. It's about enhancing performance, improving fuel efficiency, and reducing maintenance issues related to emissions systems. The straight pipe looks like just pipe someone put together but it does have sensors put in it. Give your vehicle a unique sound with an MBRP Touring Profile exhaust. Enjoy a performance exhaust note without the aggressive volume.
BENEFIT of 4" exhaust - typically a 200 degree decrease in exhaust gas temperatures (EGT's) and 20 hp increase in the power band. MBRP, Powerflow and AFE Atlas are High Quality Performance Exhaust Systems with smooth mandrel-bent 4 inch exhaust tubing. 4" exhaust size is optimal for most diesel pickup truck applications. Stand out from the crowd with a performance exhaust system that sounds great. This EGR delete kit was easy to install on my Dodge Ram, providing excellent results and good value. This product was exactly what I needed for my exhaust system, easy to install and works great.
You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.). A common scenario for 6.4 Powerstroke owners was to find a ton of extra oil during an oil change. However, it’s not actually oil, but diesel fuel that has mixed in with the oil. The 6.4 Powerstroke came after the 6.0 Powerstroke, which was widely panned for its problems and poor performance.
Straight pipes offer better flow than many popular performance mufflers. This can be helpful if you’re trying to maximize performance and fuel mileage. My name is John and I will assist you with your question.
In this article, we weigh the pros and cons of muffler deletes and straight pipes against aftermarket performance mufflers. BD Diesel is your number one manufacture of aftermarket and replacement products for Ford Powerstroke powered vehicles. With one of the largest assortments around, BD has the right part to get you going when you are broken down, want to make some improvements or looking for some extra performance. We have designed our exhaust manifolds to have the most optimal flow while constructed to stand up to the punishing operations.
Yes, this product is compatible with a wide range of diesel engines. Take up to $300 off gas truck exhaust and up to $150 off diesel truck exhaust and components for a limited time only. The company has recently released its new 4-inch aluminized straight pipe kit for the 6.4l Power Strokes. This kit is from the down pipe back and replaces the catalytic converter, DPF and muffler with straight pipe.
We provide top quality parts for the specific make of your diesel truck. Steps were taken to fix some of the emissions problems in 2009, but new problems with the fuel system cropped up in its place. The 2010 models saw issues with the 6.4 Powerstroke turbo parts and exhaust system. The 6.4 Powerstroke was also known for developing cracked up-pipes. The telltale sign of this problem is excess soot on your firewall or hood. Cracked up-pipes cause a major loss of power and the only way to deal with this is to get a 6.4 up-pipe replacement.
If unsure of your fitment, please email before ordering. The good news is that trucks with the 6.4 Powerstroke that are still on the road have probably had a lot of stock parts replaced with quality aftermarket parts. If you own a truck with the 6.4 Powerstroke, chances are you’ve probably already encountered some or all of these problems. The DPF system works to decrease harmful emissions from a diesel engine, but they can get clogged, which will decrease efficiency and cause problems with the turbocharger. This was a significant problem with the 6.4 Powerstroke, especially in the beginning.
The problem is, straight pipes are usually obnoxious in their loudness. Loudness can be a pro or a con depending on your taste and application. Sometimes you just need or want exhaust that is loud. Straight pipes can usually deliver loudness, but at the price of good sound quality.
Offering both Aluminized and T409 Stainless Steel exhaust systems, we have one of the most diverse products on the market. We have direct fit exhaust kits for your Cummins, Duramax or Powerstroke! With all pre-bent and pre-welded hangers, you never have to guess where a pipe goes – Everything just fits right into place.
There mechanic was lost (just does brakes and minor stuff). All I was told was smokes after driving and has partial delete. Test drove monitoring pids noticed regen says clean then minimum (never seen that before) after it got to operating temp starting pouring smoke out.
It often develops leaks, which means a loss of coolant that leads to overheating. The stock radiator is one of the parts that should be replaced with an aftermarket 6.4 radiator. One of the more infamous problems on the 6.4 Powerstroke is its weak pistons that were prone to early cracking. A cracked piston allows extra air into the cylinder, which then decreases the compression ratio. This results in a loss of power and can only be fixed by replacing the pistons.
Years ago, 6.7L Power Stroke owners had no alternative to the CP4.2 high-pressure fuel pump. Today, S&S Diesel Motorsport’s CP4 to DCR pump conversion offers them ultimate peace of mind. Co-developed with PurePower Technologies (the aftermarket division of Stanadyne), the company’s system replaces the problematic Bosch CP4.2 with a DCR high-pressure fuel pump. Better yet, it too is CARB-compliant and supports improved performance (thanks to a 25-percent increase in displacement over the CP4.2). This is the end-all, be-all solution for the problematic CP4.2. Since replacing the 6.4L Power Stroke, and the problematic 6.0L Power Stroke before that, Ford’s 6.7L Power Stroke has been a significant force in the world of diesel trucks.
Speaking of the pickups we started with at the beginning of this column, I had an exhaust leak in one of my diesel pickups years ago. I pulled it into the shop and began the repairs but, wouldn’t you know, I needed a part from town and the truck was the only available vehicle that day. But long lengths of straight pipe often results in “cackling”, “popping” and other undesirable sound.
Upgrading to Express shipping speed will take 3-4 Business days. Cab & Chassis models will require modifications to be made for the pipe to fit. They look well made and everything is in the kit as said, let alone they came quicker then I expected but haven’t had chance to get them on yet. Receive our latest updates about our products and promotions.
The high-pressure fuel pump was also a good part that had 20% more flow than its rivals at the time and more than its successor in the 6.7 Powerstroke. But the problems are why we’re here, so let’s dig in. One of the main reasons for getting a diesel engine is that it can typically be modified to increase horsepower, and the 6.4 Powerstroke is no different. Think about the heavily modified trucks and tractors you see at pulling events. The amount of pressure they “exhaust” is extraordinary – way more than a normal farm tractor or pickup would create.
As an old lawyer would say, “it depends.” Removing the muffler from a tractor reduces back pressure, which can result in substantial horsepower gains. The amount of your tractor’s individual power boost will depend on several factors, but the most important one is the amount of fuel and air already going through it to begin with. I have owned several fine old tractors over the years – and over the tenure of my ownership, several of them have found themselves with straight pipes. Just yards from where I write this, I have two tractors sitting in the shed that are fitted with straight pipes instead of mufflers. I also have a few more “shed mates” (tractors are like potato chips … one just won’t satisfy) I wouldn’t operate without a muffler. If you like options, there are both factory and aftermarket solutions for the OEM ’11-’14 6.7L Power Stroke turbo.
In those cases, the turbo tends to serve as a bit of a muffler; at least I think it tones down the blare as compared to a naturally aspirated motor. Deleting catalytic converters is also not uncommon, but is not something we recommend as it can negatively affect sound and performance. Even though this practice is common, the result is often subpar sound quality.
The kit was a perfect fit for my vehicle, making installation a breeze with excellent results. Will continue to purchase more products from here. Agree with everyone else on the couplers but for the price not that big of a deal. You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly.
Everything is direct fit to the OEM hangers and you get all the clamps and parts you will need, all in one box, no matter what configuration of truck you have. Sound & Style Performance is one thing but at MBRP we believe that appearance and sound are just as important. Every MBRP performance exhaust system has been specifically tuned to get the optimal sound from your pickup.
Well, it was the tractor we used to harvest corn grain via a mounted picker. It was oversized for that job by most standards, but it did such a great job. Running a straight pipe got rid of excess heat, which helped with the fear of catching anything on fire in the dry fodder and chaff blowing about.
Then with a hammer, we gently persuaded the muffler to slide off of the factory pipe. I received my upper control arms yesterday and couldn’t be more impressed with them. I only bought them because of the great price and wasn’t expecting much, but when I opened them up and saw the size, quality and construction of them it blew me away. Amazing product and would highly recommend them to everyone looking to upgrade their upper control arms. We send you a step-by-step instruction guide and have a full time support staff to help you with any questions you may have on the installation. Please also note that the shipping rates for many items we sell are weight-based.
The purpose of an oil cooler is to keep the engine oil temperature at a reasonable level so that the engine won’t overheat. A clogged oil cooler is a common problem on the 6.4 Powerstroke and it can result in overheating. In fact, it had some good, strong parts like the bed plate and some of the strongest OEM rods in any light-duty diesel engine.
The GT37 retains VGT functionality but sports a bigger turbine wheel and a larger, single compressor wheel. It sees lower shaft speeds and rarely overspeeds. The aftermarket path typically points toward the use of a fixed geometry turbo, and namely one of the many popular off-the-shelf BorgWarner S300 or S400’s. These conventional style turbochargers are rock-solid reliable and, like the GT37, can support considerably more horsepower than the restrictive factory VGT on ’11-’14 engines.

We also carry several Diesel Exhausts replacement parts, accessories and components. Truck came in from a local used car lot its a k miles. They bought on auction for customer delivered to him he brought back saying smokes and mil on.
My colleagues and I once (once is the key word here) tried to use a large self-propelled forage harvester to cut our corn silage test plots. Each plot’s forage test requires a sample to analyze for nutrient density and moisture content. We normally collect these samples with a bucket placed into the crop stream near the spout of the harvester. Straight pipes are usually loud, and often obnoxious.
They remove the tuner to use on the next vehicle, but leave the delete pipe in because they don't have the DPF to put back in. Well the crank case pressure is 24 inches of mercury. I was shocked it was that high but had no oil in the air intake tube or turbos.
On the 6.4s the muffler is welded to the pipe that is bent to go up and over the axle. So, he cut the muffler off to make removal easier. Later that same day, he called us to let us know the factory system was off and he was ready to install the new system. We had to let him know the new system was being shipped from Pueblo West, CO, and it wouldn't be arriving for another week or so. Not wanting to be without his truck, he decided to put a turn out pipe on the factory pipe where the muffler was and wash the underside of the truck.
If you don’t want to deal with the negatives that come with straight pipes and muffler deletes, you’ll need an alternative. Before we dive into it, let’s define exactly what straight pipes and muffler deletes are. The 6.7L Power Stroke’s secondary fuel filter (not the one along the frame rail) is notorious for cracking. This on-engine fuel filter is contained within a thin plastic cartridge and the cap is prone to becoming brittle and splitting. If the cracks are serious enough, fuel can leak into the lifter valley, where—thanks to the 6.7L engine’s reverse cylinder head design—the steamy-hot exhaust manifolds are located.
Muffler deletes and straight pipe exhaust can provide a lot of loudness, but honestly not much else. Rough sound and potential legal issues easily outweigh the fact that straight pipes are by default the cheapest exhaust option. Aftermarket exhaust systems and mufflers can give you the sound and flow you want without the negatives that come with straight pipe exhaust. But here are the most common vehicles that we see with straight pipe exhaust or muffler deletes. With the release of the 6.4L Powerstroke in 2008 model year applications came an entirely new exhaust system for your SuperDuty. As you can imagine, it definitely pays to address the factory cold-side intercooler pipe before it fails, and the diesel aftermarket is loaded with replacement options.
The kit fits every 6.7L Power Stroke produced to date, from ’11-’24. Flashark Up-Pipe is a great replacement for OEM Up-Pipes that develop leaks at the bellow over time. Our Up-Pipe has a larger diameter and flows more air for increased horsepower and torque while lowering exhaust gas temperatures and improving the turbo spool. All exhaust systems and DPF/CAT delete pipes are final sale and not eligible for a refund or return.
If you are having this problem, you could try unclogging it with a DPF cleaner and a DPF cleaning kit. Another big positive about Paradox Performance Mufflers is that you don’t need a whole new exhaust system with them. Simply replacing your stock mufflers with Paradox mufflers is often enough to get a big boost of quality sound. Paradox goes above and beyond other performance mufflers because of their Patented Tuning Fork Technology. It’s why they have such high quality sound and highly effective “drone” control.
Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. This extender worked perfectly and was easy to install, just as advertised.
We are a one-stop diesel performance shop for everything you need. I am sure the car lot is having customer get the programmer to try and avoid this. Thanks you guys are confirming what I figured was going on with this truck. Yes, if it's a car lot or dealer selling a modified truck, not only is it a federal offense but they are also liable for putting all of the deleted stuff back on. The item you are trying to purchase is currently out of stock. Please enter your name, email, and phone number below. We will contact you as soon as this product is available.
Find answers to common questions about this product, including compatibility, installation, warranty, and return policy. By that we mean, how much horsepower it takes to spin the torque converter, the transmission, driveshaft, pinion, differential gears, axle shafts and even the wheels. On average, it takes about 20 percent of the engine's horsepower to move everything. Only thing it needs is better installation instructions.
However, this goal wasn’t exactly realized as all models of the engine have been plagued with problems. Many of the issues with this engine can be addressed with the replacement of factory parts with 6.4 Powerstroke performance parts. So for the sake of horsepower and turning the wife’s head (she acts like she doesn’t care – but I know better), the chrome stack stays.
BTW there are some older tuners running around out there that you have to tune the PCM first to unlock the delete option in the tuner, THEN you have to tune it AGAIN with the regen set to off. Those one got me a few times and I released a vehicle only to have it come back smoking like a bugger... I meant the pouring fuel smoke out when it's attempting to regenerate all the time. Since there wasn't any oil in the intake tube I didn't check the crank case pressure but when I put it back together I'll check it. The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels.
The old tractor I used to run the mixer wagon had a straight-piped, naturally aspirated engine. Needless to say, it woke the neighbors if I drove it out on the road. Operating it under any circumstances required earmuffs … and good earmuffs at that. For me personally, my straight piping adventures were primarily on older tractors with turbocharged motors.
Drop exhaust gas temperature by up to 200°F and set the stage for all the performance you want. An MBRP performance exhaust system is the starting point to getting the most from cold air intakes, programmers, modules and downloaders. Easy Installation MBRP systems are as much fun to install as to drive with on your truck. Bolt-on, no weld design makes installation a no hassle one and a half to two hour project.
If this vehicle ever plans on driving on the road, this will need to be reinstalled. After hearing about the system, we wanted to test it out. So we called Elite Diesel Engineering and informed them that we are building an off road only, chase truck and wanted to do a little testing of the system. To make a kit like this work, custom tuning has to be used to let the computer know what we removed. So we also have a custom tuned SCT programmer done by Tadd at Elite Diesel Engineering on the way.
Like all modern turbocharged diesels, the 6.7L Power Stroke is heavily reliant on boost pressure. When the cold-side intercooler pipe blows, your ’11-present Super Duty is all but dead in the water. Built from heavy Duty aluminized steel our Installer Series performance exhaust systems offer a value price without compromising on the quality built into every component. While the seams are a major point of rust through with some budget systems our fully sealed tubing adds years to your system. Constructed to the same specifications as our top of the line Pro Series we back this line with an industry leading 3 Year Warranty. FLO~PRO Performance Exhaust products are made from 16ga mandrel bent steel.
Despite this, it’s hard to argue that the 6.4 Powerstroke was a good engine right from the start. There are many reasons why it only lasted a few years. Introduced in 2008 to replace the 6.0 Powerstroke, the 6.4 Powerstroke was supposed to improve on the previous engine. It was designed to be more reliable, perform better, and address emissions standards.
Also available are Flo-Pro exhaust kits which are some of the easiest to install kits in the aftermarket. The sound quality from straight pipes and muffler deletes is often very low, and simply cannot match the sound quality of performance mufflers. However, high quality performance mufflers such as Paradox Performance Mufflers offer flow just as good -and sometimes better- than straight pipes. One advantage of straight pipes is that they have very little backpressure.
The exhaust is bolted/clamped together in multiple pieces. As such, our owner started at the rear of the exhaust. There are two hangers and one clamp that holds them on. If the pipe is out of stock, we accept back orders, but keep in mind your order may take a few weeks to ship.
It’s a failure that, while it may only occur on 1-percent of all engines, costs upward of $10,000 to fix. Exhaust Material - Available in aluminized steel or T-409 stainless steel. Aluminized steel is our most popular but will eventually accumulate surface rust. So if your testing to see if you actually got stainless; beware that a magnet will still stick to it. We suggest the stainless upgrade if you regularly operate your truck on salted winter roads. Crafted from 16 gauge heavy-duty aluminized steel, Armor Lite has the same fitment and performance as T304 and T409 products.
This eliminator worked perfectly and was easy to install, just as advertised. Installation was straightforward, fitting perfectly on my vehicle without any hassle. There are a couple of different ways to get the factory muffler off. Drop the spare tire and move the driveshaft out of the way or in our owner's case, cut the muffler off and slide the rest of the assembly over the axle and out. The top hanger was sprayed with Royal Purple's Max Film to help make removal easier.
Check out the ATLAS DPF-Back exhaust system by aFe. Whereas quality performance mufflers cost at least $80, straight pipes can cost as little as $20 plus installation. For very minimal investment, S&S Diesel Motorsport’s Gen2.1 CP4 disaster prevention kit can save you thousands in the event your 6.7L Power Stroke’s high-pressure fuel pump checks out. Its design supplies both the CP4.2 and its metering unit independently with clean, filtered diesel fuel and reroutes the CP4.2’s case fuel back to the tank. This keeps the fuel injectors, rails and lines from seeing any pump debris (a return filter isolates debris before fuel flows back to the tank). Upgrade your truck's sonic profile and performance with our advanced mufflers.
In order to keep the light off, you will need to use a programmer such as a bully dog or edge tuner to turn off the light. Most people see a large increase in fuel economy after doing this and it wont take long to cover the cost of the delete kit and the programmer in the fuel you will save. Interested in a new exhaust system for your 6.4L Power Stroke?
If you’re having trouble determining the best route for your exhaust system or components, feel free to give us a call and we’d be happy to steer you in the right direction. Fuel-contaminated engine oil was another problem with the 6.4 Powerstroke. In this scenario, fuel dilutes and contaminates the engine oil, which reduces the oil’s ability to lower the engine temperature. Find the right products and services for your farm, ranch or operation.
Not only that, but virtually all places have excessive noise laws. And as we’ve already said, straight pipes are loud. If you are purposely trying to annoy your neighbors and everyone around you, then straight pipes could be for you.
With our new stamped logo on the tip and our unmistakable styling, there's no question that you have the hottest performance exhaust on the road - MBRP. OC DIESEL offers a wide selection of Diesel Exhausts for most diesel truck, motorhome, and RV owners. Experience the benefits of increased horsepower and towing performance with our Diesel Exhausts selection. They can reduce back pressure and lower EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures) while delivering a rich exhaust sound. They usually install with common tools and carry a warranty.
I want to pull valve covers and check for debris. But I am really concerned about the drive to clean with no dpf. I had advisor call and tell them they need to put dpf back in and let me reprogram to latest to really diag. Or get a quality programmer let me flash to latest ford program then they can put in the programmer and lets see what it does. If you’re thinking about changing the exhaust on your vehicle, you may have considered straight pipe exhaust or a muffler delete.
That’s right, the factory fuel filter assembly is a potential fire hazard. The ultimate fix is an improved, aftermarket filter cap, such as the anodized billet-aluminum piece from Fleece Performance Engineering shown here. The company’s all-inclusive fuel filter fix includes the aforementioned cap, quick-disconnect fittings and a pair of high-quality Donaldson spin-on fuel filters.
For these cars, it’s common to delete one or more sets of resonators and replace them with straight pipe. Any vehicle can have its muffler deleted- if it has one. If it has a P0420 then I would think it is trying to bring the DPF up to temp by dumping fuel down the exhaust. That would explain the code and the fuel out the tailpipe. I bet you are correct that it is a stock program and someone just deleted the DPF without the programmer.
The issues with both of these engines eventually led to the end of the working relationship between Ford and Navistar and led to Ford designing its next diesel engine in-house. Let me leave you with one parting thought, regardless of your preference to exhaust systems. Get in the habit of keeping hearing protection handy and wearing it. A hundred dollars of earmuffs placed where they are handy are cheap in comparison to thousands of dollars of hearing aids on the kitchen table. Like anything else, the best course of action regarding your equipment is up to you. Modifications of any kind to the newest of tractors or trucks will almost certainly void your warranty, which is one of the reasons to purchase new machinery in the first place.
Paradox Performance Mufflers offer industry leading sound and flow, and are made in the USA. Modern muscle cars like Ford Mustangs, Chevy Camaros and Dodge Challengers and Chargers have sets of middle and rear resonators/mufflers. This arrangement is also common in sports cars both foreign and domestic. Driving Line® Accelerating Automotive Passion™ by providing a fresh angle of what fuels us. I would highly recommend and will purchase from again in the future. Please note that cab & chassis trucks often have different requirements than standard pickup trucks. If you have a cab & chassis truck, there may be a more specific kit available for your application.
Consequently, that is why these pictures start out muddy but then they miraculously become squeaky clean. The point about the cab is fitting for today’s tractors as well. Its exhaust stack, like many modern tractors, runs right up the right-side front pillar of the cab. I replaced its old muffler last year with a straight pipe (chrome, of course, to drive my wife crazy), and for the most part, I like it fine. Before CP4.2 pump failure took over as the 6.7L Power Stroke’s Achilles Heel, turbo death was arguably more common. On first-generation engines, the Garrett GT32 SST became infamous for overspeed failure.

Another kit, offered by H&S Motorsports, uses a stainless-reinforced, multi-ply silicone hose as a direct replacement—a piece that’s rated for high heat and triple-digit boost. Some aftermarket cold-side intercooler pipe replacement systems also feature an adapter assembly for the factory throttle body. Downwind of the turbo on a 6.7L Power Stroke, the cold-side intercooler pipe—which routes boost from the engine’s air-to-water intercooler toward the heads—is well-known for failing. The factory piece is infamous for becoming brittle over time, often cracks under boost, and some of them even explode. It’s a common failure for both ’11-’16 engines and ’17-current versions (as well as in both modified and completely stock engines), and when it strikes you’ve got a giant boost leak.
As a result, many companies offer DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) back exhaust systems. These remain street legal and can free up a couple extra horses. For those who are planning on using their vehicle off-road, whether it is at the job site only or track, and/or anywhere off road, Elite Diesel Engineering has another option. While there are ways of reducing the power needed to work each of these, they are usually reserved for performance-oriented applications. For example, removing a water pump will yield around an 8 horsepower increase. But the life expectancy of an electric water pump is much less than a belt-driven pump.
We invite you to get behind the wheel with us, it's certain to be an interesting drive. All they do is start regen when it hits operating temp and gets over 40 MPH. They have programmer ordered and will let me know how it runs after programed.
With all of the sensors screwed in they were then plugged back into the factory harness. All clamps were placed at the joints and hand tightened. With the hanger installed on the new mount, the first pipe was set into place. With only the catalytic converter left, the two bolts that hold the pipe on were removed. There are four sensors that plug in the catalytic converter and DPF that were removed. After spending half of a day under the truck spraying and cleaning the mud off, the transfer case skid plate was removed.
Partial delete means they either removed just the DPF and left the Cat in there, or they didn't remove the EGR coolers or disable the EGR valve. Maybe I should have parts order two of them so we have one in stock when it comes back with a blown engine then we will have another one ready to go in. With those numbers I am surprised it didn't blow one of the glow plug connections out of the valve cover. I see 1 a month like that, usually auction trucks.

That's why the factory chooses to use a belt-driven pump. Once you've tuned your 6.4 Powerstroke it becomes extremely important to improve exhaust flow to help lower engine temps and EGTs. These engines suffer a number of common problems that become more likely once boost levels are turned up and EGTs start creeping up.
The system is for off-road use only, but not for those who want a hood stack or something for hard core competition use. Ultimately, this is our top recommendation when it comes to exhaust systems. Out of the box, the 6.4 Powerstroke was rated for 350 horsepower, but it’s possible to get as much as 500 horsepower or more by replacing stock parts with 6.4 diesel performance parts. The successor to the 6.4 Powerstroke was the 6.7, rated for 390 horsepower. Straight pipes can refer to muffler deletes, but they can also refer to removing everything in the exhaust system that isn’t pipe. 6.4 powerstroke straight pipe includes resonators and catalytic converters.
Numerous problems plagued the 6.4 Powerstroke including up-pipe leaks, radiator problems, weak pistons, DPF clogging, and issues with the oil cooler among many others issues.
