Academic institutions building capacity for implementation scholarship are also well positioned to build capacity in real world health and human service settings. How practitioners and policy makers are included and trained in implementation capacity-building initiatives, and their impact on building implementation practice capacity is unclear. This scoping review identified and examined features of interventions that build implementation practice capacity across researchers and practitioners or practitioners-in-training.
Five bibliographic databases were searched. Eligible studies (a) described an implementation capacity building intervention with a connection to an academic institution, (b) targeted researchers and practitioners (including practitioners-in-training, students, or educators), and (c) reported intervention or participant outcomes. Articles that only described capacity building interventions without reporting outcomes were excluded. Consistent with Arksey and O'Malley's framework, key study several promising implementation practice capacity building interventions that tend to build practitioner capacity via expert led activities which may be relevant for academic institutions seeking to build implementation practice capacity. To avoid widening the implementation research-to-practice gap, implementation capacity building interventions are needed that target policy makers, expand beyond multiple practice settings, and leverage university/community partnerships or on-site academic medical centers. Future studies will also be needed to test the impact on service quality and public health outcomes.
Undergraduate dental basic research education (UDBRE) is broadly regarded as an important approach for cultivating scientific research talent. This scoping review aims to summarize the current status of UDBRE in terms of educational goals, teaching program and content, assessment system, training outcomes, barriers, and reflections.
The authors performed a systematic literature search in PubMed, Web of Science, and Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) to identify peer-reviewed articles written in English from their inception to January 29, 2021. Articles were reviewed and screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Related data from the included publications were then collected and summarized.
The authors searched 646 publications and selected 16 articles to include in the study. The education goals included cultivating five major dental basic research capabilities (n=10, 62.5%) and developing interest in basic research (n=2, 12.5%). As for the teaching program, the mentor-guideesearch is required to optimize a robust UDBRE system with clear education goals, well-designed teaching forms, and convincing assessment systems.Primary familial brain calcification (PFBC) is a neurogenetic disorder characterized by bilateral calcified deposits in the brain. We previously identified that MYORG as the first pathogenic gene for autosomal recessive PFBC, and established a Myorg-KO mouse model. However, Myorg-KO mice developed brain calcifications until nine months of age, which limits their utility as a facile PFBC model system. Hence, whether there is another typical animal model for mimicking PFBC phenotypes in an early stage still remained unknown. In this study, we profiled the mRNA expression pattern of myorg in zebrafish, and used a morpholino-mediated blocking strategy to knockdown myorg mRNA at splicing and translation initiation levels. We observed multiple calcifications throughout the brain by calcein staining at 2-4 days post-fertilization in myorg-deficient zebrafish, and rescued the calcification phenotype by replenishing myorg cDNA. Overall, we built a novel model for PFBC via knockdown of myorg by antisense oligonucleotides in zebrafish, which could shorten the observation period and replenish the Myorg-KO mouse model phenotype in mechanistic and therapeutic studies.
The global prevalence and incidence of nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infection are increasing. However, the prevalence of NTM infection-associated comorbidities remains understudied. Thus, we investigated the comorbidities associated with NTM infection using the National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort (NHIS-NSC) 2.0 database of the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS).
In this case-control study, patients with NTM infection and controls aged 20-89years of age were matched 14 by sex, age, region, and income. A total of 26 comorbidities were selected based on previous reports and claims data analysis. The distribution of comorbidities was compared between patients with NTM infection and controls by sex and age using logistic regression analysis.
In total, 893 patients (379 men and 514 women) with NTM infection (mean age, 56.1years) and 3,572 controls (mean age, 55.6years) were included. The odds ratio for prevalence of respiratory diseases, metabolic diseases, musculoskeletal disoction.
It is recommended that school-aged children accrue 30 minutes of daily moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) in school. Current literature is inconclusive about the long-term associations between school-based physical activity and academic achievement. In this study, we use a large sample and longitudinal design to rigorously evaluate whether school-day MVPA is associated with academic achievement.
In a diverse suburban public school district, 4936 Grade 4 students were recruited in 40 elementary schools. Students wore accelerometers to measure school-day MVPA for 15 days across three semesters. Academic performance data was collected across Grade 3 fall to Grade 5 spring, including teacher-assigned grades and standardized test scores. Multilevel modeling was conducted controlling for student demographics and school characteristics.
Cross-sectional analyses found small negative associations in Grade 4. Grade 4 full-year mean daily school-day MVPA had β = --0.066, β = --0.063, β = --0.066, and β recommended amount of school-day MVPA - which would constitute an approximately 300% increase from current levels - results suggest that grades would only decrease by 2 points on a 100-point scale. Furthermore, longitudinal analyses suggest school-day MVPA does not have a predictive association with course grades or standardized test scores. Findings suggest school-based MVPA implemented in accordance with recommendations does not meaningfully detract from academic progress.

Lactation has long term effects on maternal health, but the relationship between lactation and long-term handgrip strength, a marker of musculoskeletal function and healthy aging, has not been explored.
Examine the relationship between total lifetime breastfeeding duration (BFD) and midlife handgrip strength.
We measured handgrip strength as a marker of overall strength among 631 women in the Project Viva cohort. At the same visit, women reported their BFD for each birth, and we derived total lifetime BFD. We used multivariable linear regression models to estimate associations of lifetime BFD in months with midlife handgrip strength in kilograms, adjusted for race/ethnicity, education, marital status, household income, age at first pregnancy and age at handgrip strength assessment.
Mean (standard deviation) age was 50.7 (5.1) years, lifetime BFD was 21.6 (19.5) months, and handgrip strength was 28.0kg (6.0) in the dominant and 26.0kg (5.6) in the non-dominant hand. In fully adjusted models, each 3-month increment in lifetime BFD was associated with 0.10kg (95% CI 0.02, 0.18) higher handgrip strength for the dominant hand and 0.10kg (95% CI 0.03, 0.18) for the nondominant hand. Results were similar in models examining mean BFD per pregnancy rather than total BFD. There was no evidence of effect modification by race/ethnicity.
Our study suggests that there is a small beneficial effect of lifetime BFD on handgrip strength. Future studies can explore mechanisms by which BFD affects body composition and associations with other outcomes related to lean mass such as sarcopenia.

Anterior Cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR) aims to restore the anatomy and function of the knee. Although stump preservation during ACLR could be technically challenging, it may improve the revascularization and proprioceptive function of the graft. In this study, we aimed to compare the functional outcome after ACLR with and without stump preservation.
One hundred and twenty patients with acutely torn ACL and with intact tibial stump were included in this study. Half of them (60 cases) underwent ACLR with stump preservation. The other half (60 cases) had ACLR after total resection of the tibial stump. One hundred and nine out of 120 cases completed their 2year-follow-up period. All patients were assessed by Tegner activity, Lysholm, and objective International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) scores. The side-to-side difference regarding stability was assessed by KT-1000 instrumented Lachman and proprioceptive function was measured by Passive angle reproduction test.
There was no statistically significant difference between both groups regarding Tegner activity, Lysholm, and IKDC scores. Knee stability measured by KT-1000 and complication rate also showed no significant difference. But there was a significant difference in proprioception favoring stump preservation. On the other hand, the operative time was significantly shorter with stump resection. There was no significant difference in the complications rate between both groups and there were no cases with stiffness in either group.
Stump preservation ACLR is a safe technique that yields equivalent functional outcomes to standard ACLR. However; it provides better proprioception. It is more technically challenging, but in experienced hands; it is easily reproducible.

Patient subgroups are important for easily understanding a disease and for providing precise yet personalized treatment through multiple omics dataset integration. Multiomics datasets are produced daily. Thus, the fusion of heterogeneous big data into intrinsic structures is an urgent problem. Novel mathematical methods are needed to process these data in a straightforward way.
We developed a novel method for subgrouping patients with distinct survival rates via the integration of multiple omics datasets and by using principal component analysis to reduce the high data dimensionality. Then, we constructed similarity graphs for patients, merged the graphs in a subspace, and analyzed them on a Grassmann manifold. The proposed method could identify patient subgroups that had not been reported previously by selecting the most critical information during the merging at each level of the omics dataset. Our method was tested on empirical multiomics datasets from The Cancer Genome Atlas.
Through the integration of microRNA, gene expression, and DNA methylation data, our method accurately identified patient subgroups and achieved superior performance compared with popular methods.
