Biocatalysis has undergone revolutionary progress in the past century. Benefited by the integration of multidisciplinary technologies, natural enzymatic reactions are constantly being explored. Protein engineering gives birth to robust biocatalysts that are widely used in industrial production. These research achievements have gradually constructed a network containing natural enzymatic synthesis pathways and artificially designed enzymatic cascades. Nowadays, the development of artificial intelligence, automation, and ultra-high-throughput technology provides infinite possibilities for the discovery of novel enzymes, enzymatic mechanisms and enzymatic cascades, and gradually complements the lack of remaining key steps in the pathway design of enzymatic total synthesis. Therefore, the research of biocatalysis is gradually moving towards the era of novel technology integration, intelligent manufacturing and enzymatic total synthesis. The mechanical microenvironment of cells has been associated with phenotypic changes that cells undergo in three-dimensional spheroid culture formats. Radial asymmetry in mechanical stress - with compression in the core and tension at the periphery - has been analyzed by representing tissue spheroids as homogeneous visco-elastic droplets under surface tension. However, the influence of the granular microstructure of tissue spheroids in the distribution of mechanical stress in tissue spheroids has not been accounted for in a generic manner. Here, we quantify the distribution and propagation of mechanical forces in structurally heterogeneous multicellular assemblies. For this, we perform numerical simulations of a deformable cell model, which represents cells as elastic, contractile shells surrounding a liquid incompressible cytoplasm, interacting by means of non-specific adhesion. Using this model, we show how cell-scale properties such as cortical stiffness, active tension and cell-cell adhesive tension influence the distribution of mechanical stress in simulated tissue spheroids. Next, we characterize the transition at the tissue-scale from a homogeneous liquid droplet to a heterogeneous packed granular assembly.Precise position sensing and nanoscale optical rulers are important in many applications in nanometrology, gravitational wave detection and quantum technologies. Several implementations of such nanoscale displacement sensors have been recently developed based on interferometers, nanoantennas, optical field singularities and optical skyrmions. Here, we propose a method for ultrasensitive displacement measurements based on the directional imbalance of the excitation of Bloch surface waves by an asymmetric double slit, which have low propagation loss and provide high detected intensity. The directionality of excitation changes dramatically with a sub-nanometric displacement of the illuminating Gaussian beam across the slit and can be used for displacement and refractive index metrology. We demonstrate a theoretical intensity ratio of the BSW excitation in opposite directions exceeding 890, which provides a displacement sensitivity of up to 2.888 nm-1 with a resolution below 0.5 nm over a 100 nm linearity range. Experimentally, a directional intensity ratio more than 90 has been achieved, with a displacement sensitivity of 0.122 nm-1 over a 300 nm linearity range, resulting in a resolution below 8 nm for a 600 nm illumination wavelength. The proposed facile configuration may have potential applications in nanometrology and super-resolution microscopy.

Dealing with customers has increasingly became a risk factor that organisations should be aware of. Having to deal with difficult customers, pupils, patients it has been found to be the second most frequent reported risk factor in the recent 2019 ESENER survey (61%, up from 58%), just after repetitive hand or arm movements.

The aim of the present study is to explore the relationship between negative relations with customers and its association with employees' burnout and general health.

Data were collected using an anonymous, self-report questionnaire employed in an Italian company working in the large-scale retail sector. The sample was composed of 610 employees (70% women) working in 28 supermarkets.

Results showed that negative customer relations were associated to higher levels of emotional dissonance (b = .25; p = .000), which in turn was associated with higher levels of burnout (b = .72; p = .017) and consequently to higher levels of poor general health (b = .03; p = .000).

This study contributed to the current understanding of how negative relationship with clients could trigger a health impairment process which could lead to higher levels of burnout and poorer general health in employees. Findings suggest that organizations whose employees' work activities are characterized by a daily contact with customers should implement interventions such as training activities in order to enhance the employees' skills in dealing with custumers, for example on how to manage emotions at work.

Colleague incivility is one of the subtlest forms of workplace aggression, referring to any low-intensity deviant behavior in violation of the norms of mutual respect with ambiguous intent to harm the target. Although a large corpus of literature has identified the negative consequences of colleague incivility for workers and their organizations, there is a paucity of studies aimed at examining the role played by job characteristics in triggering this form of aggression. The present study, referring to the work environment assumption of Einarsen (2000), proposes that workplace aggression is primarily affected by factors related to deficiencies in the psychosocial work environment. In this view, the present study aimed to test whether the relationships between stressors in the psychosocial work environment (i.e., workload, role conflict, and unfair reward) and burnout (i.e., exhaustion and cynicism) are mediated by colleague incivility.

The study design was cross-sectional and non-randomized. In total, 659 administrative officers employed in a large-sized Italian university completed a self-report questionnaire.
