These findings, in conjunction with future sensory and stability research, can inform a potential salt fortification program in Cambodia.This study investigates the efficacy of Lactobacillus plantarum strains (L. plantarum LP3, L. plantarum AF1, and L. plantarum LU5) incorporated into a Konjac-based edible coating in order to prevent fungi growth and retain physicochemical characteristics of fresh-cut kiwis kept at 4 °C for 5 days. For this purpose, probiotic survivability, fungi counts, decay percentage, color changes, titratable acidity (TA), total soluble solids (TSS), ascorbic acid content, chlorophyll amount, total phenolics, and DPPH radical scavenging of fresh-cut kiwis were evaluated. Results indicated that the population of L. DC661 plantarum strains in all treated groups retained at sufficient amounts of probiotic consumption (above 6 and 7 log CFU/g) at the end of the storage period and L. plantarum LP3 had the highest viability in comparison to other strains. The incorporation of L. plantarum in Konjac coatings markedly reduced the amount of decay and color changes and maintained the chlorophyll and ascorbic acid contents of fresh-cut kihe qualities of fresh-cut kiwifruit.

Waiting times for secondary care psychological therapy remain a 'blind spot' in serious mental illness (SMI) provision, and their reduction is a priority within the National Health Service (NHS) Five Year Forward View. The paper describes the eradication of waiting times within a community-based NHS service and the effectiveness of strategies whilst examining help-seeking behaviour, compliance and therapeutic need.

Analyses are reported for treatment compliance and therapeutic outcomes for 208 waiting-list cohort individuals seen by the SMI psychology service over an 18-month period between October 2014 and March 2016.

No significant clinical or demographic differentiation between individuals who successfully completed therapy compared to those who disengaged was observed. Despite an average 2.20-year waiting time, this alone did not significantly impact engagement with psychological treatment and all psychological therapies provided led to a significant clinical improvement and no individuals who completed therapy required re-referral at 12-month follow-up.

If imposed appropriately over a suitable time frame evidence-based practice coupled with effective operationalization can result in efficient needs-led psychological provision within SMI and secondary care. Potentially debilitating waiting times for service users and other referring professionals can be avoided, whilst psychology provision retains a flexible, formulation-based and person-centred approach.

Although remarkable curative effects have been achieved in the past few decades, the emergence of drug resistance is a problem. Therefore, new inhibitors need to be developed. XHL-31 is a new candidate with significant inhibitory activity against T790M and C797S mutations in vitro. In order to study the pharmacokinetics in vivo, a sensitive and efficient UHPLC-MS/MS method was developed for the determination of XHL-31 in rat plasma in this study. The lower limit of quantitation of this method was 1 ng/ml and the linear range was 1-2,000 ng/ml. Method validation showed a high accuracy and precision, a high stability, a high recovery and repeatability. The method was successfully applied to the pharmacokinetic study of XHL-31 in rats. The results indicated that there were significant gender differences in oral absorption and the absolute bioavailability of XHL-31 in female rats were extremely low ( less then 10%).

To determine the prevalence and study the association of ovarian, uterine, and breast cancers with endometriosis.

A cross-sectional study of all women with a tissue-proven diagnosis of endometriosis postoperatively in a tertiary care hospital between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2019, was conducted to determine the prevalence of coexistent malignancy. Patient details were obtained from electronic clinical records. Univariate analysis followed by multivariate analysis was done to find independent risk factors associated with malignancy.

Out of 800 patients, 104 (13.0%) were found to have coexistent malignancy ovarian (50, 6.2%); endometrial (33, 4.1%); synchronous ovarian and endometrial (7, 0.9%); and breast (14, 1.8%). Increasing age (odds ratio [OR] 1.13; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.09-1.16), higher levels of cancer antigen 125 (CA 125) (OR 1.002; 95% CI 1.001-1.005), postmenopausal status (OR 6.2; 95% CI 2.0-19.2), duration of endometriosis over 5years (OR 4.7; 95% CI 2.5-9.0), and endometriomas larger than 8cm (area under the curve 0.83) were predictive of coexistent malignancy.

To help mitigate these declines, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has restored and managed lowland wet grassland nature reserves to benefit these and other species. However, the impact that these reserves have on bird population trends has not been experimentally evaluated, as appropriate control populations do not readily exist. In this study, we compare population trends from 1994 - 2018 for five bird species of conservation concern that breed on these nature reserves with counterfactual trends using matched breeding bird survey observations. Our results showed positive effects of conservation interventions for all four wader species that these reserves aim to benefit Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), Redshank (Tringa totanus), Curlew (Numenius arquata) and Snipe (Gallinago gallinago). There was no positive effect of conservation interventions on reserves for the passerine, Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla flava). We compared reserve trends with three different counterfactuals, based on different scenarios of how reserve populations could have developed in the absence of conservation, and found that reserve trends performed better regardless of the counterfactual used. Our approach using monitoring data to produce valid counterfactual controls is a broadly applicable method allowing large-scale evaluation of conservation impact. The effect of added sugar intake on fetal development and pregnancy outcomes remains understudied despite increasing dietary intake in the United States. This study investigated the effect of added sugar on fetal programming by examining the association between maternal added sugar consumption, fetal movement, birth outcomes, and placental DNA methylation. Further, primary human fibroblasts were cultured under normal or high glucose conditions to assess the effect of high glucose exposure on cells' DNA methylation. We found that higher added sugar intake across pregnancy was associated with reduced 3rd-trimester fetal movement (p less then .05) and shorter gestation (p less then .01). Our sample size was not powered to detect the alteration of individual placental CpG with genome-wide significance. However, a secondary analysis suggested that added sugar consumption was associated with differential methylation of functionally related gene families across pregnancy. Consistent with this, high glucose exposure in primary cultured human fibroblasts altered the methylation of 17% of all CpGs, providing converging evidence for an effect of sugar on DNA methylation. Our results suggest that diets high in added sugar during pregnancy may have implications for offspring health via prenatal programming effects measurable before birth.The aim of this study is to prepare composite films incorporated with star anise ethanol extract (SAEE)/hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) inclusion complex. The effects of sodium alginate concentration on mechanical properties of films are tested. Sodium alginate, SAEE, and SAEE/HP-β-CD inclusion complex-based composite films are characterized in terms of UV-visible spectroscopy, microstructure characterizations, including transmission electron microscopy, scanning electronic microscopy, Fourier transform infrared, and 1 H NMR analysis, and molecular modeling calculations. With various stoichiometries, the complexes of sodium alginate/SAEE/HP-β-CD are compared through both theoretical and experimental analyses. Molecular simulations are applied to predict the possible orientations of SAEE inside the HP-β-CD cavity and the optimal stoichiometry of the complex formation. According to the simulation, the system of sodium alginate/SAEE (or SAEE/HP-β-CD inclusion complex) in a 31 stoichiometry reaches the lowest total energy and achieves a balance in complex system. In addition, the composite films can maintain high-content vitamin C and reduce weight loss rate of fresh-cut Chinese yam. In conclusion, coinciding with the experimental results, the molecular modeling successfully calculates the reasonable molecular structure and molecular behavior of sodium alginate/SAEE/HP-β-CD inclusion complex. The composite films in this study have the potential to be used for food packaging applications. It can serve as a powerful tool to calculate the energy of association between inclusion complex and sodium alginate molecules.Megalencephaly-CApillary malformation-Polymicrogyria (MCAP) syndrome results from somatic mosaic gain-of-function variants in PIK3CA. Main features are macrocephaly, somatic overgrowth, cutaneous vascular malformations, connective tissue dysplasia, neurodevelopmental delay, and brain anomalies. The objectives of this study were to describe the clinical and radiological features of MCAP, to suggest relevant clinical endpoints applicable in future trials of targeted drug therapy. Based on a French collaboration, we collected clinical features of 33 patients (21 females, 12 males, median age of 9.9 years) with MCAP carrying mosaic PIK3CA pathogenic variants. MRI images were reviewed for 21 patients. The main clinical features reported were macrocephaly at birth (20/31), postnatal macrocephaly (31/32), body/facial asymmetry (21/33), cutaneous capillary malformations (naevus flammeus 28/33, cutis marmorata 17/33). Intellectual disability was present in 15 patients. Among the MRI images reviewed, the neuroimaging findings were megalencephaly (20/21), thickening of corpus callosum (16/21), Chiari malformation (12/21), ventriculomegaly/hydrocephaly (10/21), cerebral asymmetry (6/21) and polymicrogyria (2/21).
