There is a need for a greater and urgent effort to fill this gap.Estuaries are used by waterbirds as foraging, resting and nesting sites, serving also as shelter for migratory birds. The dynamics of this avifauna in an aquatic environment may be associated with the differences of time of day, tide height, temperature, wind speed and use of the site by different species. This study had the objective of evaluating behavioral aspects of aquatic birds, relating the influence of environmental variables with their activities. Bird counts were performed at the mouth of two important rivers of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, during two-hour intervals throughout the day in monthly samplings between June (2015) and May (2016). A total of 44 species were recorded, ten of which were migratory. The most recorded behaviors were foraging and resting. The Kruskal-Wallis analysis indicated no significant difference in behavior between the sampling intervals. The Bray-Curtis similarity test resulted in three groups 1) - species that foraged most of the time; 2) - species that rested most of the time; and 3) - same time in both activities. The Indicator Species Analysis showed that 17 species were associated with only one microhabitat and 15 species with more than one. The Canonical Correlation Analysis indicated that only tide height, temperature and rainfall variables were correlated with the behaviors performed and only the resting activity was positively correlated with all variables. Hexadimethrine Bromide chemical structure This may be associated with thermoregulation and the ability of some species to stay in midlitoral at high tide. The results demonstrate that different waterbird species used the studied areas in different ways. Thus, the heterogeneity of microhabitats in an aquatic environment of extreme importance for the coexistence and maintenance of the diversity of waterbirds. The Paraná-Etendeka Magmatic Province is associated with the distensive tectonics that caused the rupture of the Gondwana continent during the Lower Cretaceous and generated an intense volcanism that covers South America and the NW portion of Namibia in Africa. In Brazil, this volcanic sequence is named Serra Geral Group and predominantly consists of basalts and subordinated silicic rocks. The goal of this study is to characterize the geomorphological features observed in the Aparados da Serra region, southern Brazil, and to evaluate the relationship between these structures and the primary silicic volcanic structures. The geomorphological features were first identified using remote sensing and then correlated with flow structures observed in the field, as well as petrographic and geochemical data. AMS data were used to determine magnetic patterns and the direction of magmatic flow of the rocks. Despite the low degree of anisotropy, clear patterns of lineation and foliation were identified in the studied rocks. Our data shows that Units I and II correspond to silicic lava flows linked to effusive fissure eruptions, presenting a dome morphology caused by differential erosion. Unit III rocks may correspond to true volcanic domes, whereas the Unit IV corresponds to the effusive feeder structures.Correction for 'Thioamide quenching of intrinsic protein fluorescence' by Jacob M. While fine-tuning the AuNC surface chemistry can optimize their pharmacokinetics, its effects on radiotherapy enhancement remain largely unexplored. This study demonstrates that optimizing the surface chemistry of AuNCs for increased tumor uptake can significantly affect its potential to augment radiotherapy outcomes. The facet effect has been well demonstrated for nanocrystal catalysis, however it is rarely revealed in metal organic frameworks (MOFs). Herein, we present a facile way to construct 2D zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) with dominant exposure of the (002) facets. We discovered that the ZIF-67 (002) facet exhibited the highest catalytic activity for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) among the (002), (011), and (111) facets. Moreover, this facet engineering is also available for ZIF-8 nanocrystals.Self-healing hydrogels as renewable materials have attracted significant attention recently. However, traditional self-healing hydrogels require a long time for self-healing and cannot be used at low temperatures. Besides, their poor biocompatibility limits the application of hydrogels. Herein, we have prepared a hydrogel composed of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and modified sodium alginate. Due to the dynamic recombination of borate bonds, these hydrogels show a strong self-healing ability, with the shortest self-healing time up to 15 seconds. Also, glycerin (GI) was added into the hydrogel to increase the cold resistance of the hydrogel. At -25 °C, the hydrogel still displayed good frost resistance and elasticity. NaCl and other inorganic salts were added to endow the hydrogel with good electrical conductivity. The hydrogel also had good skin-like properties and could activate the capacitive screen of an electronic device.Super-oscillatory lens (SOL) optical microscopy, behaving as a non-invasive and universal imaging technique, as well as being a simple post-processing procedure, may provide a potential application for sub-diffraction-limit fluorescence imaging. However, the low energy concentration, high-intensity sidelobes and micrometer-scale working distance of the reported planar SOLs impose unavoidable restrictions on the ground-state applications. Here, we demonstrate step-shaped SOLs based on the multiple-phase-modulated (MPM) method to improve the focusing efficiency. Two pivotal advantages are thus generated (i) the fabrication complexity can be effectively reduced based on several conventional optical lithography steps; (ii) the focusing efficiency is much higher than that of the random MPM ones due to the efficient manipulation of the wavefronts, bringing about a stronger light concentration to the focal spot. Additionally, the ratio of the sidelobe intensity is flexibly tuned to meet the customized requirements, and a 2 mm-working-distance MPM SOL with the sidelobe intensity highly suppressed is finally exploited.
