Adolescent males are at increased risk of mental illness and are reluctant to engage in treatment. This study aims to identify subgroups of help-seeking intentions among a sample of Australian male adolescents.

A sample of 1038 male adolescent sport participants in Australia (age M=14.69 years, SD=1.35) reported help-seeking intentions from ten sources and from 'no one'. Latent profile analysis was conducted based on these 11 items. Identified profiles were then compared across mental health measures.

Four latent profiles were identified Low general help-seekers (10.5%), Moderate general help-seekers (46.8%), High general help-seekers (25.5%), High family and friends help-seekers (17.2%). Low, Moderate, and High general help-seekers had uniformly low, moderate, and high intentions to seek help from all sources, respectively. High family and friends help-seekers reported high endorsement of intentions to seek help from intimate partners, friends, parents, and other relatives, but low intentions for otherpredictive utility of this item on help-seeking and mental health, and should consider the influence of masculinity and previous experiences of help-seeking.Due to the high redox activity of the mitochondrion, this organelle can suffer oxidative stress. Immunohistochemistry of FA patients' heart confirmed significantly enhanced expression of markers of mitochondrial biogenesis, fusion/fission and autophagy. These novel findings demonstrate cardiac frataxin-deficiency results in significant changes to metabolic mechanisms critical for mitochondrial homeostasis. The objective of this study was to investigate the hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects of blueberry anthocyanin extract (BAE), malvidin (Mv), malvidin-3-glucoside (Mv-3-glc), and malvidin-3-galactoside (Mv-3-gal) in both human hepatocarcinoma cell line HepG2 and in a high-fat diet combining streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. High glucose treatment significantly increased hepatic oxidative stress up to 6-fold and decreased HepG2 cell viability. Pretreatment with BAE, Mv, Mv-3-glc and Mlv-3-gal significantly mitigated these damages by lowering the reactive oxygen species (ROS) by 87, 80, 76, and 91%, and increasing cell viability by 88, 79, 73, and 98%, respectively. When the parasite load exceeds >3% in the blood, malaria transforms into severe malaria which requires immediate attention as death occurs within hours to days. The increase in people traveling to malaria-endemic areas and resistance/partial resistance to most known antimalarial drugs has put the current management scheme in jeopardy. To improve the patient outcome at this point, the physician may opt to perform exchange transfusions from another individual as an adjunct therapy to reduce parasitized RBCs, but the strategy has many drawbacks, including chances of infection. These limitations can be mitigated if the patient's own blood is withdrawn/extracted, sterilized from the parasitic load and then re-transfused almost similar to what is done in extracorporeal blood treatment for sepsis, poisoning and graft versus host disease. The study included a total of 137 patients aged 18-65 years, 57 diagnosed with schizophrenia and 80 with bipolar disorder, according to the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria, and a control group (HC) of 42 healthy individuals. Biochemical analyses, thyroid function tests, hemogram, serum iron level, iron-binding capacity, and ferritin levels were examined. Serum levels of hepcidin and ferroportin were measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method.

A statistically significant difference was determined between the groups in terms of the serum ferroportin levels (F = 15.69, p < 0.001). Post-hoc analyses showed that the schizophrenia group had higher ferroportin levels than in the bipolar group (p < 0.001) and HCs (p < 0.001). Hepcidin levels did not differ between the groups. Chlorpromazine equivalent doses of antipsychotics correlated with ferroportin levels (p = 0.024).

Ferroportin levels were increased in the schizophrenia group, although iron and hepcidin levels were within normal ranges. Antipsychotics may alter the mechanisms which control ferroportin levels. Further studies are needed to examine the relationships between antipsychotics and iron metabolism for determination of causal relationship.
