COPD is a global respiratory disease that has produced a worldwide health care burden. Acute exacerbation of COPD (AECOPD) is the leading cause of death in patients with COPD and accounts for the majority of expenditure of COPD management. The colonization of potential pathogenic bacteria in the lower respiratory tract is an important cause of the acute exacerbation especially in patients with moderate and severe COPD. Some clinical studies have shown the potential of oral probiotics, aerosol-inhaled amikacin and combined vaccination to prevent AECOPD.

We hypothesize that patients with stable COPD will benefit from aerosol-inhaled amikacin, oral probiotics or combined vaccination in terms of preventing acute exacerbation of COPD, slowing the progression of the disease and improving their quality of life. The trial aimsto investigate the efficacy and safety of the above interventions to decolonize bacteria in the lower respiratory tract and prevent acute exacerbation of COPD. This cross-sectional study aimed to describe personal growth and to analyze its associated factors among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in China.

A total of 364 Chinese COPD hospitalized patients were included in the study between November 2016 and April 2018. Participants provided demographic information and completed the Growth Through Uncertainty Scale (GTUS), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and the modified Medical Research Council dyspnoea scale (mMRC).

Identifying the genetic basis of airflow limitation is one of the most interesting issues for understanding chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) pathophysiology. Several studies have shown that some genetic variants associated with COPD have been identified in genome-wide association study (GWAS), especially in patients with moderate to severe COPD; genetic susceptibility for airflow limitation in the early COPD phase has not been widely studied.

We investigated the genetic variants in early COPD.

The present study analyzed Gene-environment interaction and phenotype (GENIE) cohort that included participants who received health screening examination. The association between single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and susceptibility to early COPD (FEV1 predicted ≥50% and FEV1/FVC <0.7) was tested.

A total of 130 patients with early COPD and 3478 controls (1700 ever smokers and 1778 never smokers) were recruited. When compared with the total controls, certain SNPs (rs2818103, rs875033, rs9354627, rs34552148) on chromosome 6 were included at the top of our list (p= 5.6 × 10-7 ~9.6 × 10-6) although they did not reach genome-wide significance. The aim of this phenomenological study was to explore principal family members' experience of motivating patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) towards self-management.

Interviews were conducted with 10 family members (spouses and adult children) of COPD patients. The interviews were audio recorded, transcribed and analyzed thematically.

Being a principal family member of a COPD patient is characterized by frustrated caring; wanting the best for him/her and yet carrying a heavier burden than the person feels equipped for, lacking both knowledge about the disease progress and information about available healthcare resources. The situation demands much energy, due to COPD patients' lack of stamina; family members' fear of the patient's possible breathlessness; willingness to help, though sometimes meeting with negative reactions from the patient; and feeling ignored by health professionals (HPs). The cross-sectional study was conducted on 4595 women (40-83 years) coming from 31 provinces during two years to our "Menopause Clinic", the first official center in China. To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy and safety of supplement transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) with drug-eluting beads TACE (DEB-TACE) through extrahepatic collateral (EHC) arteries for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

In this retrospective study, 61 unresectable HCC patients with treatment-naïve EHC blood supplies who received TACE from January 2016 to March 2019 were enrolled; of these patients, 42 (68.9%) received DEB-TACE, and 19 (31.1%) received cTACE. The hepatic tumor feeding arteries were treated in the same TACE session if it presented. The tumor response, time-to-progression (TTP), and overall survival (OS) were analyzed. Safety was assessed based on the occurrence of liver function deterioration and major complications within three months after TACE.

DEB-TACE showed better efficacy than cTACE in the disease control rate (

=0.001), overall response rate (

=0.005), the TTP (eight months vsthree months,

=0.002) and the OS (23.8 months vs nine months,
