Neutropenia and/or lymphocytopenia may occur in patients with IDA and are reversible with iron therapy. Iron therapy led to the correction of anemia in 100% and increased ANC in 67%. Therefore, neutropenic women with IDA should be treated, initially only with iron, and observed for their Hb and ANC responses before starting any other treatment.

Vaccinations have dramatically impacted on the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19, the disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). As morbid obese (MO) individuals are at high risk for severe complications, their acceptance of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines is of certain public health interest.

We investigated the knowledge, attitudes and eventual acceptance of SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 vaccination among MO individuals either in waiting list, or recipients of bariatric surgery from a reference center (Parma University Hospital) shortly before the inception of the Italian mass vaccination campaign (March 2021). Data were collected through a web-based questionnaire. Association of individual factors with acceptance of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine was assessed by means of a logistic regression analysis with eventual calculation of adjusted Odds Ratios (aOR) and corresponding 95% Confidence Intervals (95%CI).

Adequate, general knowledge of SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 was found in the majority of MO patients. Higrs in this subset of individuals, stressing the importance for alternative interventions. (www.actabiomedica.it).

Performance assessment is a key administrative function and an essential component of organizational quality programs, by quantifying it in relation to set goals, standards, expectations and guides to improvement initiatives. The present study aimed to correlate the nursing performance levels perceived by the nurses themselves with the levels of organizational well-being. Methods. An on-line questionnaire was administered to Italian nurses in order to assess nursing performance, thanks to the Six-Dimension on Nursing performance questionnaire and also the wll-being of nursing organization was explored thanks to the Questionnaire on nursing organization- brief form questionnaire (QISO brief form).

Significant correlations were assessed between the nursing performance sub dimensions on frequency sub scale and each sub-dimensions of the well-being questionnaire (p<.001). Also in Teaching/Collaboration sub-dimension of the quality nursing performance sub scale, positive correlations were recorded with the ent of strategies for recruiting, attracting and retaining engaged nurses.COVID-19 pandemic revolutionized the way in which cancer patients are treated worldwide. Regarding neuro-oncological patients, usually considered frail and with lower life-expectancy in respect to other oncological patients, the international scientific community had to urgently reorganize the treatment approach in order to minimize the risk of in-hospital contagious. For GBM patients, adjuvant treatments have been evaluated with even much more attention with regard to the expected efficacy. As a consequence, an hypofractioned radiotherapy regimen has been preferred in order to reduce the daily hospital accesses and, especially in pMGMT unmethylated patients, chemotherapy with Temozolomide was avoided. Here, we made a comprehensive evaluation of the neurooncological community suggestions regarding GBM treatment in the pre-vaccine era of COVID-19 pandemic. Background The investigation of regulatory effects of intra-exosomal compounds, especially microRNAs, has promising therapeutic prospects in the treatment of numerous diseases, including cardiovascular disorders. In this study, we investigated the effect of healthy donors` plasma exosomes (HDPE) on the production of cytokines by PBMC cells of patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) and showed the integral role of miRNA-126 in CHF-mediated changes of mononuclear paracrine secretion. Methods Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMСs) were isolated from a peripheral blood of fifteen patients with CHF (age, 66,8±9,8 years; left ventricular ejection fraction, 44±19%). The concentration of cytokines (IL-10, ICAM-1, VEGF-A, TNF-α and MCP-1) in culture medium and PBMCs was measured by ELISA. The level of miRNA-126 expression in PBMCs was performed by real-time PCR. Results Dramatic increase of ICAM-1 level in activated PBMCs of CHF patients, as well as an increase of the IL-10, ICAM-1 and TNF-α levels in the culture medium was observed. It was accompanied by CHF-related miRNA-126 overexpression in PBMCs. HDPE treatment distinguished by a tendency to reduction in miRNA-126 expression by CHF PBMCs and correlated with upregulation of IL-10, ICAM-1, TNF-α and MCP-1 with normalization of cytokines secretion. Conclusions The altered paracrine secretion of cytokines by CHF PBMCs and miRNA-126 overexpression in vitro was found. HDPE treatment modulated production and secretion of most of studied cytokines by CHF PBMCs in vitro. Chk2 Inhibitor II The experimental application of exosomes for the modulation of paracrine secretion and PBMCs cellular functions may be promising for CVD therapy, including endothelial dysfunction and CHF.

Identification of human bodies is a necessary step in forensic practice. DNA analysis, fingerprints, and dental charting are considered conventional identification methods. However, these methods are not always applicable. Orthopedic surgical implantable devices provide valuable identity information when conventional methods of identification are not applicable or in challenging circumstances. This paper aims to review the usage of orthopedic implantable devices for forensic human identification.

A search for relevant articles using the PubMed databasein January 2021 identified 8 articles that met the inclusion criteria. Results These articles highlighted the importance of the use of orthopedic implantable devices as an additional method for positive identification, especially in disaster situations. It is a method that needs antemortem and postmortem radiographs, comprehensive information of the orthopedic implantable device like company and serial number, logo, name, medical records of previous surgical intervention, and for the family member's history to match with the identification details.

Efforts should be made to include all information pertaining to orthopedic implantable devices in the medical records. Educating and training forensic experts on the use of such devices in the identification process is essential, as this technique is practical, low-cost, and time-saving.

The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the incidence and epidemiology of knee osteoarthritis and general health in a population of 65 retired semi-professional rugby players. Methods demographic and anamnestic analysis was recorded and Oxford Knee score, SF-12 and VAS were submitted to all veterans in order to assess current knee function, general health condition and level of pain. Parametric analysis of Spearman was used to evaluate the statistical significance on these results and the Kruskal-Wallis test was used to assess the significant differences between the questionnaire results and the demographic and anamnestic records. Results we found that players who sustained a knee injury during their career have a current reduction of the knee function compared to veterans who did not suffer any injury and who showed values comparable with those of the health population. In terms of general and mental health, athletes who retired later have now a better condition than those who retired from the sport earlier. Conclusions we concluded that knee injury prevention should be an unequivocal priority because although rugby is a high energy sport, it does not increase the risk of knee osteoarthritis in absence of serious knee injuries.

Papillary thyroid carcinoma accounts for 85% of thyroid follicular epithelial-derived cancers. The identification of pathogenetic mechanisms improved the understating of papillary thyroid carcinoma pathogenesis. The current study aims to examine the research productivity and trends in the genetics of papillary thyroid carcinoma from 1991 to 2020.

The Web of Science Core Collection database was searched to retrieve the relevant literature. A search string was applied and 1,741 relevant records were selected for the analysis. Bibliometric techniques were used in the statistical analysis with the help of Biblioshiny (RStudio).

The growth in the number of publications was observed to be over a hundred publications per year since 2015. 'Thyroid' published the highest number of publications, followed by 'Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism'. 'Nikiforov YE' was identified as the most productive researcher with a total of 49 publications. Out of the top 20 most contributing researchers, seven belonged to Italy, and four were from the USA. 'University of Pittsburgh' contributed the highest number of publications. The top contributing countries in this field were the USA, China, and Italy. BRAF and RAS were among the frequently used keywords.

This bibliometric review demonstrates that investigating the genetics underlying papillary thyroid carcinoma is a rapidly growing area of research. During the last two decades, China has been a significant contributor to the field. Besides, institutions in USA and Italy have significantly contributed to research in the genetics of papillary thyroid carcinoma. (www.actabiomedica.it).

Prompt diagnosis is challenging, since neonatal septic shock may overlap with the physiological changes occurring at birth. The outcome of septic shock depends on a prompt recognition of symptoms and a strict adherence to cardiopulmonary resuscitation guidelines. Fluid administration plays a major role in the initial management of septic shock. If there is no response to volume filling, inotropes must be infused within one hour of onset (dopamine, dobutamine, adrenaline). Life-threatening infections require immediate and aggressive empiric use of antimicrobials. In the pediatric age, delay in antibiotic initiation for treating septic shock is associated with poor outcome and increased risk of mortality. There is a gap regarding first line interventions in neonatal septic shock. This review addresses initial interventions in the treatment of neonatal septic shock and discusses currently available evidences.
