Transrectal ultrasound (US) imaging is paramount to the successful completion of prostate biopsies. Certain US features have been associated with prostate cancer (PCa), but their utility remains controversial. We explored the role of multiparametric US (mpUS) in the detection of clinically significant PCa.

We performed a retrospective cohort study to contrast the findings of prostate MRI and mpUS. Patients who underwent MRI, US and biopsy between 2015 and 2021 were included. Biopsies were performed using a systematic approach (12 cores), as well as with MRI (4 cores/lesion) and US (1 core/lesion) targeting. The US features analyzed consisted of calcifications, hypoechoic lesions and power or color Doppler positivity. Gleason 3 + 4 or higher was used as to define true positives. Measures of diagnostic accuracy were calculated for the different imaging modalities.

The final cohort included 74 patients, of which 24 (32.4%) had clinically significant PCa. The concordance between MRI and US was 63.5%. Seven individuals with discordant results had clinically significant PCa. MRI alone was more sensitive (87.5% vs 75%) but less specific (28% vs 32%) than US alone. An all-inclusive approach considering any suspicious US or MRI finding had a sensitivity of 95.8%. A more restrictive approach, targeting lesions noted in both US and MRI, yielded the highest specificity (50.0%) and accuracy (55.4%).

Biopsy targeting based on US findings can provide additional diagnostic information that may increase sensitivity or specificity. Additional research into this topic could open the door to a more personalized approach to prostate biopsy.

Anticoagulation management includes prophylactic or therapeutic doses of low molecular weight heparins (LMWHs) or direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). However, the management of thrombosis in patients with cancer is complex due to various individual and disease-related factors, including drug-drug interactions (DDIs). Furthermore, DDIs may impact both, cancer and venous thrombosis, treatment effectiveness and safety; their relevance is highlighted by the advances in cancer therapeutics. Given that these new oncology drugs are extensively used, more attention should be given to monitoring potential DDIs to minimize risks. Recognition of DDIs is of utmost importance in an era of rapid developments in cancer treatments and introduction of novel treatments and protocols. When managing cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT), the concomitant use of a DOAC and a moderate or strong modulator (inhibitor or inducer) of CYP3A4 or a P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is most likely to be associated with significant DDIs. Therefore, LMWHs remain the first-line option for the long-term management of CAT under these circumstances and physicians must consider utilizing LMWHs as first line. Several local and systemic risk factors are associated with the development of CRT and should be taken into account to prevent CRT by standardizing appropriate catheter placement and maintenance. The use of primary pharmacological thromboprophylaxis in order to avoid CRT is not routinely recommended, although it can be considered in selected cases. Recommendations for the management of established CRT are based on the extrapolation of anticoagulation for lower limb venous thrombosis. To solve this problem, we created a cell tool for basic research on iPSCs. Iris tissue-derived cells from GFP fluorescence-expressing mice (GFP-DBA/2 mice) were reprogrammed to generate GFP mouse iris-derived iPSCs (M-iris GFP iPSCs). M-iris GFP iPSCs expressed cell markers characteristic of iPSCs and showed pluripotency in differentiating into the three germ layers. In addition, when expressing GFP, the cells differentiated into functional recoverin- and calbindin-positive cells. Thus, this cell line will facilitate future studies on iPSCs.

To evaluate association between clinical and pathological findings and repeated recurrence in sinonasal inverted papilloma.

Retrospective cohort study conducted at a tertiary care teaching hospital included all patients operated for inverted papilloma from January 2010 to December 2019. Patients were categorized as primary and recurrent cases. Based on disease status at follow-up, they were subcategorized into 'primary with no recurrence' (PnR), 'primary with recurrence' (PwR), 'recurrent with no further recurrence' (RnR), and 'recurrent with further recurrence' (RwR) groups. Data including demography, clinical, endoscopic and pathological findings were collected and analyzed.

Increased incidence of pale appearance of lesion in RnR group (p = 0.017), polypoidal appearance in primary group (p = 0.002) and fibrous appearance in the recurrent group (p = 0.002) were statistically significant. Predominant epithelium was combined respiratory and squamous epithelium in primary and recurrent groups and also in ting recurrence. Negative predictors of recurrence of IP include pale appearance of tumour, combined respiratory and squamous epithelium lining and squamous metaplasia.

Balloon dilatation of the Eustachian tube (BDET) is an option for treating chronic obstructive Eustachian tube dysfunction (COETD). In this prospective multicentric study, the main objective was to evaluate the results of BDET in unilateral COETD refractory to medical treatment.

Adults with unilateral COETD whose Eustachian Tube Score (ETS) was less than 5 despite medical pressure therapy were included. The primary endpoint was the change in ETS measured at 2, 6, and 12months after BDET. Secondary objectives were the evolution of clinical symptoms assessed by the Eustachian Tube Questionnaire (ETDQ-7), audiometry, tympanometry, and otoscopy changes after BDET.

Twenty-eight patients were included between May 2014 and December 2017 and were treated with BDET without adverse effects in three different referral centers. Population's median age was 52 (Q25; Q75 24,82) years. The median follow-up time was 381 (Q25; Q75 364; 418) days. The median ETS was 2 (Q25; Q751; 4) before BDET. There was a significant improvement in ETS at 2 and 6months and 1year after BDET (score at 1year 6 (Q25; Q752; 8) (p < 0.0001)). There was a significant, sustained improvement in the ETDQ-7 with a score of 4.21 (Q25; Q75-3.50; 4.79) before BDET and 3.43 (Q25; Q75-2.43; 4.14) (p = 0.0012) at 1year. There was a suggestive improvement in tympanometry results at 1year (p = 0.025).

BDET provides an improvement in symptoms and objective measures assessed at 1year in patients with COETD who have failed medical treatment.

A total of 180 patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma diagnosed pathologically from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018 were selected, and the MEDEX system was used to automatically delineate the SUVmax, MTV, and TLG of the lymph node metastases and nasopharyngeal carcinoma primary tumor. In addition, the ratio of LN-SUVmax (SUVmax of the lymph node metastases) to T-SUVmax (SUVmax of the nasopharyngeal carcinoma primary tumor) was calculated, and a ROC curve was drawn to obtain the best cut-off value. Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression models were used for survival and multivariate analyses, respectively.
