Like nearly all conferences during the pandemic, the ASNTR conference was held in person while offering a virtual option to the event. These formats are advantageous for those under travel restrictions or personal constraints, but they lack the spontaneity of in-person connections. Highlights from the meeting included the return of the Bernard Sanberg Memorial Award and the Roy Bakay Memorial lecture. The presidential lecture was given by Gabriel de Erausquin, who discussed the possibility of long-term CNS effects resulting from SARS-CoV2 infection. With both virtual and in-person events, including oral and poster presentations, the ASNTR managed to maintain the unique essence of this small important meeting. Objective In order to decrease the use of systemic corticosteroids and prevent asthma exacerbations, EAACI and GINA made recommendations in favour of severe asthma patients continuing the use of biologicals during the pandemic. However, the course of SARS-CoV-2 infection remains uncertain, especially in patients taking biological therapy for severe asthma. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the clinical course of COVID-19 in severe asthmatic patients receiving biological treatment. Methods A total of 75 patients under the care of a tertiary level allergy clinic and receiving omalizumab or mepolizumab, which are the approved biologicals for severe asthma in Turkey, were included in the survey between April 1 and December 31, 2020. A questionnaire was administered via a telephone call by one of the treating physicians. Results Of the total patients, 46 (61%) were receiving mepolizumab and 29 (39%) omalizumab. Of the patients, 14 (19%) had COVID-19, 9 (64%) had pneumonia, 4 (29%) were hospitalized. A total of 12 (16%) patients interrupted biological treatments because they did not want to attend hospital for injections during the pandemic. The incidence of COVID-19 was higher in patients who have interrupted biological treatment (p less then 0.001). In addition, the risk of having COVID-19 was higher in the ones who have interrupted their biological treatment (Relative risk2.71; 95% Confidence interval1.21-6.06). Asthma control was better in patients attending regular injections (p = 0.006). Conclusion Severe asthma itself seems to be a risk factor for COVID-19, whether biological treatment has a role in the disease course needs further research.A 12-year-old neutered female cat was referred with clinical signs referable to lower urinary tract disease. Clinical examination revealed a tense, painful urinary bladder, and proximal urethral thickening. Endoscopic studies showed a pedunculated mass with polypoid projections. Multiple full-thickness mucosal biopsies were obtained, and the mass was almost completely excised. The neoplasm was confined to the mucosa and consisted of epithelial cells arranged in anastomosing trabeculae and nests, growing downward into the lamina propria. Neoplastic cells showed minimal atypia and low mitotic activity. Histological findings were consistent with inverted urothelial papilloma. Feline papillomavirus DNA was not amplified from biopsies. One year later, the cat had no urological signs, and urinary bladder was normal at ultrasound. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of a case of inverted urothelial papilloma in a cat and is a differential diagnosis for low-grade urothelial carcinoma and other lesions with inverted growth pattern.
Sense of mastery, a well-recognized resource for older adults, has been shown to be related to early life experiences, especially parent-child interactions. Yet while there are indications that a reduced sense of mastery is related to early experiences of child maltreatment, this association has not been studied among older adults. The aim of this study was to examine the relation between experiences of childhood parental invalidation and sense of mastery among older adults, through the mediation of self-objectification and perceived disrupted body boundaries.
Three-hundred-and-sixteen older adults (Mean = 72.24; SD = 8.12 years; range 60-94) filled out a battery of questionnaires assessing their levels of exposure to childhood parental invalidation experiences, sense of self-objectification, disrupted body boundaries, and sense of mastery

More specifically, two significant indirect effects were observed, according to which the association between invalidating childhood experiences and sense of mastery was mediated by both self-objectification and by disrupted body boundaries. Conclusion As these results suggest that early life experiences continue to affect individuals' sense of self in older age, they should be considered an important factor for evaluation and intervention.Human gut microbiota played a key role in maintaining and regulating host health. Gut microbiota composition could be altered by daily diet and related nutrients. Diet polysaccharide, an important dietary nutrient, was one kind of biological macromolecules linked by the glycosidic bonds. Galactans were widely used in foods due to their gelling, thickening and stabilizing properties. Recently, effects of different galactans on gut microbiota have attracted much attention. read more This review described the structural characteristics of 4 kinds of galactans, including porphyran, agarose, carrageenan, and arabinogalactan, along with the effects of different galactans on gut microbiota and production of short-chain fatty acids. The ability of gut microbiota to utilize galactans with different structural characteristics and related degradation mechanism were also summarized. All these four galactans could be used by gut Bacteroides. Besides, the porphyran could be utilized by Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, while the arabinogalactan could be utilized by Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium and Roseburia. Four galactans with significant difference in molecular weight/degree of polymerization, glycosidic linkage, esterification, branching and monosaccharide composition required gut microbes which could utilize them have corresponding genes encoding the corresponding enzymes for decomposition. This review could help to understand the relationship between galactans with different structural characteristics and gut microbiota, and provide information for potential use of galactans as functional foods. Objectives Depression is a major health concern for both individuals and societies. Hence, understanding the risk factors for depression is of importance. As individuals grow older, the way in which they perceive the aging process may have a significant influence on their physical and mental health. More negative perceptions of aging could put individuals at risk for social withdrawal, causing loneliness and resulting in higher levels of depressive symptoms. Methods We use the Health and Retirement Survey, a large and longitudinal dataset spanning over a period of 8 years, to examine a model in which loneliness mediates the relationship between self-perceptions of aging and depressive symptoms. Results Our findings suggest that loneliness indeed mediates the relationship between self-perceptions of aging and depressive symptoms. Conclusions The results highlight to the importance of the way people view the aging process in shaping their social and mental well-being. Practitioners may want to address self-perceptions of aging when helping older adults cope with loneliness and depressive symptoms.
This scoping review synthesized existing qualitative studies to provide conceptual clarity to "parents' perspectives" in speech, language, and communication interventions for children.
Peer-reviewed articles published between January 2009 and June 2019 were reviewed in accordance with the steps recommended by Arksey and O'Malley. In total, 1883 unique records were screened, and 40 studies met inclusion criteria. Inductive content analysis was used to analyze the research questions and major themes reported in studies.
The included studies were conducted across geographical regions and included parents of children of different ages and clinical diagnoses. Eight aspects of parents' perspectives were identified

used in therapy.
Findings from this review suggest that parents' perspectives have been explored across a range of geographical locations on interventions for various clinical populations. The context of speech language therapy; and (iii) include all parents' perspectives in speech and language interventions.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONParents' perspectives in communication interventions are complex and multifaceted.Clinicians and researchers can consider parents' perspectives using the eight, broad thematic categories identified in this scoping review.Epidermal nevi (EN) are cutaneous hamartomas present at birth, usually occurs in the trunk, the face, or the limbs, appearing as a patch of overgrowing skin. They may be small and localized, but they may interest extensive areas of the body. A 20 years old man came to our attention for an EN interesting all the face. The treatment protocol consisted of a session of CO2 laser in order to vaporize thicker areas, followed by a session of dye laser on the area to prevent scarring. This treatment was performed under local anesthesia and sedation in three surgical sessions spaced 3 months from each other. Two sessions of dye laser spaced apart 6 months were performed during follow-up to further improve the esthetic outcome. The patient was followed for 2 years with no recurrence. Although surgery is still considered the gold standard in EN management, it is not always feasible. This novel combination technique can obtain optimal cosmetic results with no relapse within the period of follow up. Although further trials on a more significant number of patients are required, the combination of CO2 and dye laser promises to become a valid therapeutic alternative when treating giant EN of the face.
