Variation observed in heat inactivation of Salmonella strains (data from Combase) was characterized using multilevel modeling with two case studies. One study concerned repetitions at one temperature, the other concerned isothermal experiments at various temperatures. Multilevel models characterize variation at various levels and handle dependencies in the data. The Weibull model was applied using Bayesian regression. The research question was how parameters varied with experimental conditions and how data can best be analyzed no pooling (each experiment analyzed separately), complete pooling (all data analyzed together) or partial pooling (connecting the experiments while allowing for variation between experiments). In the first case study, level 1 consisted of the measurements, level 2 of the group of repetitions. While variation in the initial number parameter was low (set by the researchers), the Weibull shape factor varied for each repetition from 0.58-1.44, and the rate parameter from 0.006-0.074 h. In this study, the microbial diversity during the wet fermentation of Coffea arabica L. in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta (SNSM) in Colombia was explored by high-throughput sequencing and the resulting cup quality through the standards of the Specialty Coffee Association. The taxonomic assignment of sequence reads showed a high microbial diversity comprised of 695 bacterial and 156 fungal genera. The microbial community was dominated by the Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) Leuconostoc, the yeast Kazachstania, and the Acetic Acid Bacteria (AAB) Acetobacter. Co-occurrence relationships suggested synergistic patterns between populations of LAB-AAB, yeasts-AAB, Leuconostoc-Prevotella, LAB-ABB-Selenomonas, and yeasts-fungi-nonLAB-nonAAB, which may result in the production of metabolites that positively impact the sensory attributes of coffee. The beverages produced were classified as specialty coffees, and their score was positively influenced by the fungal richness and the abundance of unclassified Lactobacillales, Pichia, and Pseudomonas. The findings show the richness and microbial diversity of the SNSM and serve as input for future research such as the analysis of microbial-derived metabolites and the establishment of starter cultures in coffee processing that guarantee the generation of high-quality beverages, the standardization of processes, the reduction of economic losses, and the production of value-added products that allow taking advantage of specialty coffee market.

To validate reliability, correlation and responsiveness of two whole-body MRI scores for the hip/pelvis region in spondyloarthritis.

Assessment of hip/pelvis inflammation in 4 multi-reader exercises using the OMERACT MRI Whole-body score for Inflammation in Peripheral joints and Entheses (MRI-WIPE) and Hip Inflammation Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scoring System (HIMRISS).

In exercises 3-4 (11/20 cases, respectively; 9 readers) reliability was mostly good for the 3 best calibrated readers. Median pairwise single-measure ICC for status were 0.58-0.65 (WIPE-osteitis), 0.10-0.88 (HIMRISS-osteitis) and for status/change 0.38-0.72/0.52-0.60 (WIPE-synovitis/effusion) and 0.68-0.89/0.78-0.85 (HIMRISS-synovitis/effusion). SRM was 1.23 for WIPE-osteitis, while lower for WIPE-synovitis/effusion and HIMRISS.

To define chronic ultrasound lesions of the axillary artery (AA) in long-standing giant cell arteritis (GCA) and to evaluate the reliability of the new ultrasound definition in a web-based exercise.

A structured Delphi, involving an expert panel of the Large Vessel Vasculitis subgroup of the Outcome Measures in Rheumatology (OMERACT) Ultrasound Working Group was carried out. The reliability of the new definition was tested in a 2-round web-based exercise involving 23 experts and using 50 still images each from AA of long-standing and acute GCA patients, as well as 50 images from healthy individuals.

The final OMERACT ultrasound definition of chronic changes was based on measurement and appearance of the intima-media complex. The overall reliability of the new definition for chronic ultrasound changes in longstanding GCA of the AA was good to excellent with Light's kappa values of 0.79-0.80 for inter-reader reliability and mean Light's-kappa of 0.88 for intra-reader reliability. The mean inter-rater and intra-rater agreements were 86-87% and 92%, respectively. Good reliabilities were observed comparing the vessels with longstanding versus acute GCA with a mean agreement and kappa values of 81% and 0.63, respectively.

Although calcium pyrophosphate deposition (CPPD) is common, there are no published outcome domains or validated measurement instruments for CPPD studies. In this paper, we describe the framework for development of the Outcome Measures in Rheumatology (OMERACT) CPPD Core Domain Sets.

The OMERACT CPPD working group performed a scoping literature review and qualitative interview study. Generated outcomes were presented at the 2020 OMERACT CPPD virtual Special Interest Group (SIG) meeting with discussion focused on whether different core domain sets should be developed for different calcium pyrophosphate deposition (CPPD) clinical presentations and how the future CPPD Core Domain Set may overlap with already established osteoarthritis (OA) domains. These discussions informed development of a future work plan for development of the OMERACT CPPD Core Domain Sets.

Domains identified from a scoping review of 112 studies and a qualitative interview study of 36 people (28 patients with CPPD, 7 health care professflare of acute CPP crystal arthritis and for "long term" studies that may include participants with any clinical presentation of CPPD (acute CPP crystal arthritis, chronic CPP crystal inflammatory arthritis, and/or CPPD + OA).

To compare reliabilities of assessing synovitis in hand osteoarthritis (OA) using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) with/without gadolinium (Gd).

Three readers scored synovitis on non-enhanced two-dimensional (2D) proton density (PD)-weighted MRI and Gd-enhanced (3D) MRI of hand joints in 20 patients. Inter-reader reliabilities were examined.

After studies were selected according to inclusion criteria, data extraction, quality assessment and data analysis were performed. 55 articles were eligible for inclusion, consisting of 1,195,773 female cancer patients with breast, vulvar, cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancers. Unmarried female cancer patients had higher odds of being diagnosed at later stage [odds ratio (OR) = 1.28, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.22-1.36)] and worse survival outcomes in CSM [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.22, 95% CI 1.16-1.28] and OS (HR = 1.20, 95% CI 1.14-1.25). This estimate did not vary by level of social support, number of adjustment factors, or between America and Europe. To evaluate the ability of a personalized text-message-based intervention to increase weight loss among endometrial cancer survivors with obesity.

In this randomized, controlled trial, endometrial cancer survivors with obesity (BMI ≥30 kg/m

) were randomized to a personalized SMS text-message-based weight loss intervention or enhanced usual care. Primary outcome was weight loss at 6 months; secondary outcomes were weight loss at 12 months and changes in psychosocial measures. We also compared clinical characteristics and weight change between trial participants and non-participants.

Between May 18 and December 31, 2017, 80 endometrial cancer survivors with obesity consented to participate in the randomized trial. There were no differences in clinical characteristics between the two arms. Weight changes were similar in the two arms (P = 0.08). At 6 months, no differences in quality of life, physical activity, or body image were noted. Of 358 eligible patients, 80 became trial participants and 278, non-participants.
