Current diagnostic and detection methods tend to be labor-intensive or expensive, necessitating the need for an easy, sensitive, rapid, and low-cost method. We report on the synthesis and use of positively charged chitosan stabilized silver nanoparticles (Chi-AgNPs) as a sensitive electrochemical nanobiosensor for the detection of LPS. Chi-AgNPs were synthesized through a facile, single step protocol, and characterized for size, charge, and morphology. Glassy carbon electrodes modified with Chi-AgNPs resulted in an enhancement of signal in the presence of both LPS and E. coli. Detection was accomplished over a large concentration range (several orders of magnitude) of 0.001-100 ng/mL and 10-107 CFU/mL. The biosensors can reliably detect LPS and E. coli at very low concentrations. Chi-AgNPs have potential as low cost, sensitive nanobiosensors for Gram-negative bacteria due to strong electrostatic interaction with LPS present in their outer membranes.A hybrid material obtained by blending β-chitosan (CS) with triethylenetetramine-functionalized graphene oxide (TFGO) (CSGO), was used as an adsorbent for a reactive dye (C.I. Reactive Blue 221 Dye, RB221), and the adsorption and removal performances of unmodified CS and mix-modified CSGO were investigated and compared systematically at different pH values (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12). This year's conference took place at the Institute for Structural Biology on the European Electron and Photon Campus in Grenoble, October 8 and 9, 2019. Similar to previous years, our meeting gathered scientists mainly working in France, from academic labs and hospitals as well as from industry. We also had the pleasure of welcoming attendees from different European countries and even beyond. The conference was divided into four sessions Ecology and Evolution, Phage Therapy and Biotechnology, Structure and Assembly and Phage-Host Interaction, each opened by a keynote lecture. The talks, selected from abstracts, gave the opportunity for young scientists (especially students and post-docs) to present their project and results in a friendly atmosphere. Poster sessions also favoured interactions and discussions between young researchers and more senior scientists. Here, we provide a summary of the topics developed during the conference.Among central nervous system tumors, glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and the most malignant type. Even under current standard treatments, the overall survival rate is still low and the recurrence rate is high. Therefore, developing novel and effective therapy is urgently needed. CC12, a synthesized small molecule, was evaluated for the potential anti-GBM effects in two GBM cell lines, U87MG and U118MG. The observations of cell morphology, MTT assay, flow cytometry-based apoptosis after CC12 treatment, were conducted. Western blot was performed for the investigation of the apoptotic mechanism. Positron emission tomography scan analysis and bioluminescent imaging assay using a mouse xenograft model were performed for the effect of CC12 in vivo. After treated by 10 μM CC12 for 24 h, both U118MG and U87MG cells showed tumor cell death. MTT assay results showed that the survival rates decreased when the CC12 concentrations or the treatment periods increased. Ki-67 expression and flow cytometry results indicated that the proliferation was inhibited in GBM cells, and G1 phase arrest was shown. The results of 7-AAD, Br-dUTP, and JC-1 staining all showed the apoptosis of GBM cells after CC12 treatment. Increased γH2AX, caspase-3, and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) levels meant the DNA damage, and increased Bcl2 family proteins after CC12 treatment indicated the intrinsic apoptotic pathway was involved in CC12 induced apoptosis. Furthermore, CC12 can induce the decrease of tumor prognostic marker DcR3. In vivo experiment results showed the effect of CC12 on tumor size reduction of CC12. In addition, the ability to cross the brain-blood barrier of CC12 was also confirmed. CC12 may have anti-tumor ability through the regulation of cell cycle and apoptosis in vitro and in vivo.BACKGROUND To identify the sociodemographic variables independently related to the different dimensions of the Prosthesis Evaluation Questionnaire (PEQ). METHODS An observational, cross-sectional study was conducted, with a sample of 61 Spanish vascular amputees (Valencia, Spain). Included in this study are the results of the PEQ and explanatory-sociodemographic variables, as well as a descriptive and analytic analysis. RESULTS Gender differences were observed in "appearance" and "perception of appearance" (significantly higher levels for men). Older patients tended to have worse scores in "utility", "frustration", "social burden" and "deambulation". More favorable scores were obtained for those residing in rural areas in "social burden" and "deambulation". Educational level had a positive correlation with scores. CONCLUSION Gender, age, place of residence, and educational level could be considered determinants of the quality of health related to prosthesis adaptation in vascular amputees. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Knowing the influential variables in the process of prosthetization will allow better adaptation and an improvement in the quality of life.
