The purpose of this study is to determine whether ReSure hydrogel sealant is superior to standard suture for closure of clear corneal incisions in the setting of combined glaucoma procedures.

This is a retrospective case series. Subjects studied were patients in a 6-year period undergoing combined phacoemulsification and glaucoma surgery. All cases were performed by the same surgeon. Wound closure methods correlated with discrete timeframes, as ReSure replaced suture midway through the study period, thereby establishing sutured closure as an analogous control group.

All cases included a phacoemulsification procedure requiring a 2.4 mm clear corneal incision. Upon completion of the phacoemulsification portion of the case, the wound was closed with either ReSure hydrogel or standard 10-0 suture closure. The researchers assessed the rate of Seidel-positive corneal wound leak on postoperative day one.

In all cases employing ReSure, no wound leak was observed at postoperative day one. Within the suture group, 3 cases showed Seidel positivity of the corneal incision. This equates to a statistically significant difference in wound leak frequency of 2.04% (P = 0.012); confidence interval, 0.21 to 5.82.

Microvascular invasion (MVI) impairs long-term prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We aimed to develop a novel nomogram to predict MVI and patients' prognosis based on radiomic features of contrast-enhanced CT (CECT).

HCC patients who underwent curative resection were enrolled. The radiomic features were extracted from the region of tumor, and the optimal MVI-related radiomic features were selected and applied to construct radiomic signature (Rad-score). The prediction models were created according to the logistic regression and evaluated. Biomarkers were analyzed via q-PCR from randomly selected HCC patients. Correlations between biomarkers and radiomic signature were analyzed.

A total of 421 HCC patients were enrolled. A total of 1962 radiomic features were extracted from the region of tumor, and the 11 optimal MVI-related radiomic features showed a favor predictive ability with area under the curves (AUCs) of 0.796 and 0.810 in training and validation cohorts, respectively. Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), tumor number, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level, and radiomics signature were independent risk factors of MVI. The four factors were integrated into the novel nomogram, named as CRM, with AUCs of 0.767 in training cohort and 0.793 in validation cohort for predicting MVI, best among radiomics signature alone and clinical model. The nomogram was well-calibrated with favorable clinical value demonstrated by decision curve analysis and can divide patients into high- or low-risk subgroups of recurrence and mortality. In addition, gene BCAT1, DTGCU2, DOCK3 were analyzed via q-PCR and serum AFP were identified as having significant association with radiomics signature.

Although control of inflammation and supportive care is a common practice, effective and safe disease-modifying or preventive treatments are not yet available. Recent studies demonstrate that small natural molecules belonging to polyphenol family can interfere with various stages of coronavirus entry and replication. These bioactive phytoconstituents, available as natural components in foods and medicinal plants may provide preventive and other benefits against COVID-19, particularly in older adults with micronutrient deficiencies. Another age-related nutritional deficiency may be inadequate levels of the trace metal zinc (Zn), rendering this population more susceptible to COVID-19. Here, following a brief review of 2 select flavonoids; quercetin as a potent antioxidant, and dihydromyricetin (DHM) as an effective antiviral agent together with Zn, essential for immune function, we suggest potential use of a combination of these compounds as an added prevention and/or treatment modality in COVID-19.The management of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) has remarkably changed in the last 20 years with the availability of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI). Previous studies have revealed that the displacement of flabby tissue can be reduced during impressions by controlling the applied forces via changes in factors such as the tray design, scraping of impression trays, impression material, window technique, and seating velocity of the impressions. However, there may still be some forces applied during impression or there is no even space because there are no trays supporting the vinyl polysiloxane (VPS) impression material in the open window area. Using a custom double tray with even gap between these trays and injecting light body impression material may eliminate these forces and provide accuracy due to even space for the impression material. This article is a clinical report of a patient who presented with an anterior flabby maxillary edentulous ridge opposing the remaining anterior natural teeth. A custom double tray was fabricated using the principle of the window technique. The gap between the double trays allows mucostatic impressions of flabby ridge tissue to be made with accuracy. The maxillary single denture, which was made with a custom double tray, satisfied the patient.Although IgG4-RD has CNS manifestations, cerebellar involvement has only been reported in three cases.
