Myocardial infarction with non-obstructed coronary arteries (MINOCA) is a distinct entity among patients presenting with troponin-positive acute chest pain. We have previously reported on the incremental diagnostic capability of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in this cohort. There is paucity of evidence on the long-term (> 5years) clinical outcomes of these patients as graded by their acute CMR diagnosis.
A total of 229 patients with a working diagnosis of MINOCA who underwent CMR assessment during the acute admission (2010-2017) were prospectively studied. The primary endpoint was major adverse cardiac events (MACE) defined as a composite of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular readmissions, identified from hospital and primary care records. CMR performed at a median of 6days (IQR 2, 8) from presentation provided a diagnosis in 85% of the patients (38% myocarditis, 28% acute myocardial infarction and 19% Takotsubo cardiomyopathy). Over a median follow-up of 7.1years (IQR 3.7, 8.2), 56 (24%) patients experienced a MACE. We found a strong association between CMR diagnosis and MACE (log rank 30.47, p<0.001). In multivariate analysis, age (hazard ratio=1.07; 95% confidence interval=1.05, 1.10; p<0.001) and CMR diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (hazard ratio=8.87; 95% confidence interval=2.58, 30.4; p=0.001) were independent predictors of MACE.
In a large cohort of patients with a working diagnosis of MINOCA, one in four suffer a MACE during long-term clinical follow-up. CMR diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction and age were significant predictors of MACE even in the absence of significant coronary artery obstruction.

When distractors also convey emotional content, they divert attention from the primary task more than neutral stimuli do. In the present study, while participants were engaged in a central task, we examined the impact of peripheral distractors that varied for emotional content and novelty. Results showed that emotional interference on reaction times completely habituated with repetition and promptly recovered with novelty. The enhanced LPP for emotional pictures was attenuated by repetitions and, interestingly, stimulus novelty only affected emotional, but not neutral distractors, in both the RTs and LPP. Alpha-ERD was similarly reduced for repeated emotional and neutral distractors. Altogether, these findings suggest that the impact of peripheral distractors can be attenuated through a non-strategic learning mechanism mediated by mere stimulus repetition, which is fine-tuned to detect changes in emotional distractors only, supporting the hypothesis that novelty and emotion share the same motivational circuits.Androstenol has been reported to influence judgements of attractiveness and to affect participants' mood. In the present study, participants were asked to sniff androstenol or a control odour (pure ethanol) unilaterally with the left or right nostril. Subsequently, they rated the attractiveness of photographs of the opposite sex and their own feelings on four mood scales. Participants rated the photographs as significantly more attractive after sniffing androstenol compared with the control odour. This did not depend upon androstenol being perceived as pleasant. Androstenol made male participants feel more lively, and both male and female participants more sexy, when sniffed through the right compared with the left nostril. Participants rated themselves as more irritable and aggressive when exposed to androstenol through the left nostril. The findings are discussed in relation to the effects of arousal on attraction and in the context of current theories of hemispheric differences in emotion.
Clinical observations revealed higher rates of aseptic loosening for hybrid fixated rotating hinge knee implants compared to fully cemented ones. We hypothesize that the use of a fully cemented fixation technique had a higher survival rate for aseptic loosening compared to a hybrid fixation technique in a rotating hinge knee implant.
All procedures of patients who were treated with the RT-PLUS rotating hinge knee implant (Smith & Nephew, Memphis, TN) between 2010 and 2018 were included. Primary outcome was revision for aseptic loosening. Kaplan-Meier survivorship and Cox proportional hazard regression analysis were performed to calculate survival rates and hazard ratios.
A total of 275 hinge knee implants were placed in 269 patients (60 primary procedures, 215 revisions). Median follow-up was 7.3±3.9 years. In total, 24 components (16 hybrid femur, 2 fully cemented femur, 6 hybrid tibia; all revision procedures) in 19 patients were revised for aseptic loosening. Kaplan-Meier survivorship analysis showed superior survival rates of fully cemented components (femur 97.1%; tibia 100%) compared to hybrid fixated components (femur 89.5%; tibia 95.9%) at the 10-year follow-up. Multivariate Cox hazard analysis showed a significantly higher risk of aseptic loosening for hybrid fixated components, a prior stemmed component and the femoral component.
Fully cemented fixation showed superior survival rates for aseptic loosening compared to hybrid fixation in a single design rotating hinge knee implant. A prior stemmed component appears to be a risk factor for aseptic loosening and the femoral component seems to be more prone to loosening.

There has been limited research examining the association between positive childhood experiences and overweight or obesity status in children. The purpose of this study was to examine whether experiencing positive childhood experiences are associated with lower rates of overweight or obesity status in children between 10 and 17 years of age, using cross-sectional data from the 2018-2019 National Survey of Children's Health (n = 28,771), a nationally representative mail and online survey. Frequencies, proportions, and unadjusted associations for each variable were calculated using descriptive statistics and bivariate analyses. To examine the association between overweight or obesity and PCEs, multivariable regression models were used. Compared to children who were underweight or had a healthy weight, children who were overweight or obese were less likely to participate after school activities (78.1%, p less then 0.0001), volunteer in their community, school, or church (45.6%, p less then 0.0001), have a mentor they feel comfortable going to for guidance (87.0%, p = 0.02), live in a safe neighborhood (61.3%, p less then 0.0001), live in a supportive neighborhood (50.4%, p less then 0.0001), and to live with a resilient family (78.3%; p = 0.0099). In adjusted analysis, among children exposed to two or more ACEs, children residing in a supportive neighborhood were less likely to be overweight or obese (aOR 0.87; 0.77-0.98). Our findings suggest that certain PCEs may mitigate overweight and obesity when children have experienced at least some childhood trauma.
Prednisone is a corticosteroid-derived drug which is widely used for its role in immunosuppression and treatment of lung disorders. The current study reports, for the first time, the critical role of prednisone in the induction of white fat browning, thereby promoting thermogenic effect in cultured white adipocytes.
The fat-browning activity of prednisone was evaluated in 3T3-L1 cells by quantitative real-time PCR, immunoblot analysis, immunofluorescence, and molecular docking techniques.
Exposure to prednisone stimulated browning in 3T3-L1 white adipocytes by increasing the expressions of core fat browning marker proteins (UCP1, PGC-1α and PRDM16) as well as beige-specific genes (Cd137, Cidea, Cited1, and Tbx1) via ATF2 and CREB activation mediated by p38 MAPK and ERK signaling, respectively. Prednisone exposure also resulted in the robust activation of lipolytic and fatty acid oxidation marker proteins, thereby increasing mitochondrial biogenesis. In addition, prednisone treatment resulted in reduced expression levels of adipogenic transcription factors while elevating SIRT1, as well as attenuation of lipogenesis and lipid droplets formation. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/PLX-4032.html Furthermore, molecular docking and mechanistic studies demonstrated the recruitment of beige fat by prednisone via the β3-AR/p38 MAPK/ERK signaling pathway.
Taken together, these results indicate the unique role of prednisone as a fat-browning stimulant, and demonstrate its therapeutic potential in the treatment of obesity by enhancing thermogenesis.

The composition, overtly abundance, and diversity of gut microbiota, play a significant role in maintaining physiological homeostasis with age. Reports revealed that the gut microbial profile might be correlated with immunity and metabolism. It is, therefore, tantamount to know if an older individual can achieve the immunity and metabolic profile of a younger individual by receiving the gut microbiome of a younger individual. In the current report, we have studied the effects of cecal microbiota transplantation (CMT) from younger to older mice.
In this study, older BALB/c mice (23weeks) received CMT from younger BALB/c mice (3weeks).
CMT recipient mice showed altered expressions of immune and tight junction protein genes in the colon of mice, while the non-CMT recipient mice did not. Older mice were treated with AVNM to make them compatible with CMT. Further data from metabolite studies revealed that AVNM treatment mainly affected the aromatic amino acid biosynthesis pathway while CMT mostly affected the metabolism of different carbohydrates. We repeated the analysis in C57BL/6 mice without any significant effects of CMT.
Results revealed that mice who received CMT showed more efficient restoration of gut microbiota than non-CMT recipient mice. CMT caused the alleviation of Salmonella infection and efficient recovery of the cecal index in the mice following antibiotics treatment.

It exerts its activity by binding vitamin D receptor (VDR), which belongs to the superfamily of nuclear receptors and ligand-activated transcription factors. Since VDR has been found in various tissues, it has been estimated that it regulates approximately 3% of the human genome. Several recent studies have shown pleiotropic effects of vitamin D in various processes such as cellular proliferation, differentiation, DNA repair and apoptosis and its involvement in different pathophysiological conditions as inflammation, diabetes mellitus, and anemia. It has been suggested that vitamin D could play an important role in neurodegenerative and cardiovascular disorders. Moderate to strong associations between lower serum vitamin D concentrations and stroke and cardiovascular events have been identified in different analytic approaches, even after controlling for traditional demographic and lifestyle covariates. The mechanisms behind the associations between vitamin D and cerebrovascular and cardiologic profiles have been widely examined both in animal and human studies.
