A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed in 180 patients with genetically confirmed PWS (96 females), aged 17.6 ± 12 years. Eighty-five subjects (47%) were obese. One hundred and fifty subjects (83.3%) were on GHT, while 30 patients had never been treated. Overall, 150 subjects (83.3%) were affected by scoliosis, 80.2% of children and adolescents and 87.8% of adults. A mild degree of scoliosis was observed in 58 patients (38.7%), moderate in 43 (28.7%) and severe in 49 (32.6%). Median age at diagnosis of scoliosis was 6.3 years, while the severe forms were diagnosed earlier (median age 3.8 years). In our previous study, we reported a very high concentration of D-Dimers in portal blood in patients with pancreatic cancer which may help to differentiate malignant from benign pancreatic tumours. In this study, we aim to describe other portal and peripheral coagulation profiles of PDAC in comparison to CP patients, as well to test the hypothesis; thus, it is possible to distinguish pancreatic malignancy and benign tumour based on these parameters.

We included retrospectively 115 patients with the absence of venous thromboembolism (VTE), qualified to surgical treatment due to pancreatic tumours, both PDAC and CP. Patients underwent surgery in General and Transplant Surgery Unit of Medical University of Lodz between December 2011 and February 2014. Nevertheless, the microscopic analysis of tendinous tissue features is often challenging. In this review, we aimed to compare the most popular scales used in tendon pathology assessment and reevaluate the role of the neovascularization process. The following scores were evaluated the Bonar score, the Movin score, the Astrom and Rausing Score, and the Soslowsky score. Moreover, the role of neovascularization in tendon degeneration was reassessed. The Bonar system is the most commonly used in tendon pathology. According to the literature, hematoxylin and eosin with additional Alcian Blue staining seems to provide satisfactory results. Furthermore, two observers experienced in musculoskeletal pathology are sufficient for tendinopathy microscopic evaluation. The control, due to similar and typical alterations in tendinous tissue, is not necessary. Neovascularization plays an ambiguous role in tendon disorders. The neovascularization process is crucial in the tendon healing process. On the other hand, it is also an important component of the degeneration of tendinous tissue when the regeneration is incomplete and insufficient. The microscopic analysis of tendinous tissue features is often challenging. The assessment of tendinous tissue using the Bonar system is the most universal. The neovascularization variable in tendinopathy scoring systems should be reconsidered due to discrepancies in studies.

Rifaximin is commonly used for hepatic encephalopathy (HE). However, the effects of long-term treatment for Japanese people are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects and safety of long-term treatment with rifaximin on HE.

A total of 215 patients with cirrhosis administered with rifaximin developed overt or covert HE, which was diagnosed by an attending physician for &gt;12 months. Laboratory data were extracted at pretreatment and 3, 6, and 12 months after rifaximin administration. The long-term effect of rifaximin was evaluated, and the incidence of overt HE during 12 months and adverse events was extracted.

Ammonia levels were significantly improved after 3 months of rifaximin administration and were continued until 12 months. There were no serious adverse events after rifaximin administration. The number of overt HE incidents was 9, 14, and 27 patients within 3, 6, and 12 months, respectively. Liver enzymes, renal function, and electrolytes did not change after rifaximin administration. Prothrombin activity is a significant risk factor for the occurrence of overt HE. The serum albumin, prothrombin activity, and albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) scores were statistically improved after 3 and 6 months of rifaximin administration. Moreover, the same results were obtained in patients with Child-Pugh C.

Fifty-eight students (10.4 ± 0.8 years; 48% girls) were randomized into an intervention (IG) and a control (CG) group. Both groups participated in regular physical education classes during the three-month intervention period. The IG additionally received a 20-minute exergame intervention twice per week. At baseline and following the intervention period, body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) were assessed. Furthermore, a sprint test (ST), a countermovement jump test (CMJ), and a shuttle run test (SRT) were performed. Due to prescribed quarantine measures, only 34 students (18 IG; 16 CG) were included in the final analysis. A significant group-time interaction was determined in CMJ performance (p < 0.001; η2 = 0.403), with a significant increase (+2.6 ± 2.4 cm; p < 0.001; η2 = 0.315) in the IG and a significant decrease (-2.0 ± 3.1 cm; p = 0.009; η2 = 0.190) in the CG. Furthermore, ST performance significantly improved in the IG (-0.03 ± 0.08 s; p = 0.012; η2 = 0.180) but not in the CG (0.13 ± 0.16 s; p = 0.460; η2 = 0.017), revealing significant interaction effects (p = 0.02; η2 = 0.157). The median age at surgery was 66 years (IQR 55-73.75). The median follow-up was 12 months (IQR 12-24). In total, 23.8% of patients were subjected to prior incontinence surgery, 63.8% of patients were affected by genuine stress urinary incontinence, 36.2% reported mixed urinary incontinence, whereas detrusor overactivity was confirmed in only 24.9%. The dry rate was 32.9%; nevertheless, 69.9% of patients declared themselves "very improved" or "improved" (PGI-I1-2). Low complications were observed, mostly classified as Clavien I.
