A child's critical illness is a stressful event for the entire family, causing significant emotional distress among parents and changes to family functioning. The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Related Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has abruptly caused modifications in visitation policies of Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) in many countries. We hypothesized that caregivers with no or severely restricted access to PICUs would demonstrate increased psychological distress as compared to those who had limitless access (LA) to PICUs.

Sociodemographic variables, levels of psychological distress, ratings of family functioning, and ability to cope with stressful events were collected with an online survey in a group of caregivers after their child's hospitalization. AKAP79/150 associates with the plasma membrane and endosomes through its N-terminal domain that contains three polybasic regions and two Cys residues that are reversibly palmitoylated. Mutations abolishing palmitoylation (AKAP79/150 CS) reduce its endosomal localization and association with the postsynaptic density (PSD). Here we combined advanced light and electron microscopy (EM) to characterize the effects of AKAP79/150 palmitoylation on its postsynaptic nanoscale organization, trafficking, and mobility in hippocampal neurons. Immunogold EM revealed prominent extrasynaptic membrane AKAP150 labeling with less labeling at the PSD. The label was at greater distances from the spine membrane for AKAP150 CS than WT in the PSD but not in extra-synaptic locations. Immunogold EM of GFP-tagged AKAP79 WT showed that AKAP79 adopts a vertical, extended conformation at the PSD with its N-terminus at t two mobile fractions for AKAP79 in spines, with the CS mutant having shorter dwell times and faster transition rates between states than WT, suggesting that palmitoylation stabilizes individual AKAP molecules in various spine subpopulations. These data demonstrate that palmitoylation fine tunes the nanoscale localization, mobility, and trafficking of AKAP79/150 in dendritic spines, which might have profound effects on its regulation of synaptic plasticity.Gliosarcoma is a rare malignant neoplasm. It accounts for approximately 2% of all glioblastomas. To date, there is no established treatment method for gliosarcoma, and a variety of therapies, such as surgical resection, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, are typically employed. Here, we describe a patient with gliosarcoma who, despite multiple tumor metastases throughout the body, including the lungs and lymph nodes, achieved a relatively long survival due to salvage therapy with local irradiation and remarkably effective chemotherapy with low-dose ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide therapy. When the patient died, we performed autopsy and confirmed the nature of the primary and metastatic tumor cells that had spread throughout the patient's body. Clinical and systemic histological studies also suggested the possibility of re-metastasis to the brain from systemic metastatic foci. Gliosarcoma appears to have characteristics similar to sarcoma as well as a higher risk of systemic metastasis. At present, there is scarce information on kissing aneurysms occurring near the vertebral artery (VA)-posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA). We report the first case of VA-PICA and nonbranched PICA kissing aneurysms, which were successfully treated with contralateral stenting after the anchor coil technique using two microcatheters. A 64-year-old woman was diagnosed with a left VA-PICA aneurysm (5.5 mm) and an adjacent small PICA aneurysm (2.5 mm) with the aneurysmal walls in close contact. For stenting, microcatheters were navigated to the PICA from the contralateral side, and framing coils for the anchor were placed into each aneurysm from the ipsilateral side. Next, a Neuroform Atlas stent was deployed from the PICA to the distal side of the VA, and coiling was completed using the jailing technique. The patient had a good postoperative course, and a left vertebral angiogram revealed complete occlusion of both aneurysms after 6 months. Adequate surgical planning and application of an appropriate stent-assisted coil embolization technique contributed to the success of the procedure in this rare case.

We aim to assess the influence of COVID-19 on the social needs of emergency department (ED) patients, and assess patients' access to social services.

We conducted a cross-sectional survey of 175 purposively sampled adult ED patients.

Approximately half of participants stated that COVID-19 negatively impacted their social needs with statistically significant differences observed for race, ethnicity, and insurance status. Many participants did not know of available social services, and a majority welcomed assistance from the ED.

This study suggests that unmet social needs have risen because of COVID-19, and EDs may be positioned to identify and assist affected patients.

We performed a cross-sectional multivariable regression analysis using data from the Intergenerational Impact of Genetic and Psychological Factors on Blood Pressure Study that were collected over a 4-year period from September 2015 to June 2019. The aim of this study was to describe current measurement of health disparities for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) populations and subgroups across U.S. states.

State department of health websites were searched for publicly available online reports and interactive databases denoted as state health or minority health assessments. Sources were examined to determine whether health metrics stratified by any racial/ethnic groups included the AANHPI aggregate population or subgroups. The number and frequency of AANHPI population designations were tabulated, as were the proportion of states that included AANHPIs in stratified metrics in four domains across the life span and the median number of metrics (1) stratified by any racial/ethnic group and (2) including AANHPI populations. A Pearson correlation coefficient assessed the association between the proportion of AANHPIs in state populations and the proportion of state metrics that included AANHPIs in the stratification.
