Method An uncontrolled before-and-after intervention study was conducted. Baseline and endline surveys were done among 225 and 302 randomly selected households with under-5 children, respectively, using a structured questionnaire and observational checklists. Percent point change was used to see the effect of the intervention. Genomic DNA was extracted and amplified using tetra primer amplification-refractory mutation system polymerase chain reaction (ARMS-PCR) method. The frequencies of allele T and genotype CT of PTPN22 C1858T polymorphism were significantly higher, whereas those of allele C and genotype CC were lower in patients as compared with controls (P less then 0.0001). The genotype TT was absent in both the patients and controls. It is concluded that PTPN22 C1858T polymorphism is strongly associated with vitiligo susceptibility. However, additional studies are warranted using large number of samples from different ethnicities and geographical areas. © The Author(s) 2020.Deep phylogeny involving arthropod lineages is difficult to recover because the erosion of phylogenetic signals over time leads to unreliable multiple sequence alignment (MSA) and subsequent phylogenetic reconstruction. One way to alleviate the problem is to assemble a large number of gene sequences to compensate for the weakness in each individual gene. Such an approach has led to many robustly supported but contradictory phylogenies. A close examination shows that the supermatrix approach often suffers from two shortcomings. The first is that MSA is rarely checked for reliability and, as will be illustrated, can be poor. The second is that, to alleviate the problem of homoplasy at the third codon position of protein-coding genes due to convergent evolution of nucleotide frequencies, phylogeneticists may remove or degenerate the third codon position but may do it improperly and introduce new biases. We performed extensive reanalysis of one of such "big data" sets to highlight these two problems, and demonstrated the power and benefits of correcting or alleviating these problems. Our results support a new group with Xiphosura and Arachnopulmonata (Tetrapulmonata + Scorpiones) as sister taxa. Water quality models (e.g., WASP, CE-QUAL-R1, CE-QUAL-ICM, QUAL2k) are valuable and widely used management tools for algal accrual due to excess nutrients in the presence of other limiting factors. These models utilize the Monod and Droop equations to associate algal growth rate with dissolved nutrient concentration and intra-cellular nutrient content. Having accurate parameter values is essential to model performance, however published values for model parameterization are limited, particularly for benthic (periphyton) algae. We conducted a 10-day mesocosm experiment and measured diatom-dominated periphyton biomass accrual through time as chlorophyll a (chl a) and ash-free dry mass (AFDM) in response to additions of N (range 5-11,995 μg NO3-N/L) and P (range 0.89-59.51 μg SRP/L). Resulting half saturation coefficients and growth rates are similar to other published values, but minimum nutrient quotas are higher than those previously reported. Saturation concentration for N ranged from 150 to 2450 μg NO3-N/L based on chl a and from 8.5 to 60 μg NO3-N/L when based on AFDM. Similarly, the saturation concentration for P ranged from 12 to 29 μg-P/L based on chl a, and from 2.5 to 6.1 μg-P/L based on AFDM. GcGAN takes the original image and its counterpart image transformed by a predefined geometric transformation as inputs and generates two images in the new domain coupled with the corresponding geometry-consistency constraint. The geometry-consistency constraint reduces the space of possible solutions while keep the correct solutions in the search space. We placed the scaffolds within the subcutaneous environment of rats, allowing them to incubate for 4 weeks in order to prime them for regeneration prior to being transplanted into a right lateral hemisection SCI model in the same animal. We found that subcutaneous priming reduced the lineage commitment of encapsulated NSCs, as observed by increased nestin expression and decreased NeuN expression. Objective We compared forest fragmentation measures derived from very high resolution (1 m2) data with the same measures derived from the commonly used (30 m × -30 m; 900 m2) Landsat-based data. Methods We applied area-density scaling to binary (forest; non-forest) maps for both sources to derive source-specific estimates of dominant (density ≥ 60%), interior (≥ 90%), and intact (100%) forest. Results Switching from low- to high-resolution data produced statistical and geographic shifts in forest spatial patterns. Forest and non-forest features that were "invisible" at low resolution but identifiable at high resolution resulted in higher estimates of dominant and interior forest but lower estimates of intact forest from the high-resolution source.
