This study used spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) imaging to describe the distribution of macular ganglion cell complex (GCC) thickness and its association with ocular and systemic parameters in 7-year-old children in China.

The study involved a school-based, cross-sectional analysis of the Anyang Childhood Eye Study (ACES) and included 2,505 first-grade students from urban areas in Anyang, Henan Province, Central China. All participants underwent systemic and ocular examinations. Both GCC and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness were measured using the iVue-100 OCT (Optovue, Fremont, CA, USA). Intraocular pressure (IOP) was recorded with noncontact tonometer (Huvitz, HNT-7000). Axial length (AL) was measured using optical biometry (Lenstar LS 900, Haag-Streit Diagnostics, Koniz, Switzerland).

The mean GCC thickness was 95.31±7.67 µm. GCC thickness had negative associations with AL (r=-0.124, P<0.001), cup-to-disc (C-D) area ratio (r=-0.068, P=0.0033), horizontal C-D (H C-D) ratio (r=-0.048, P=0.0384), and vertical C-D (V C-D) ratio (r=-0.074, P=0.0013). Positive correlations were found with spherical equivalent (SE) (r=0.080, P=0.0001), RNFL thickness (r=0.363, P<0.001), height (r=0.059, P=0.0036), fovea parameters, disc area (r=0.078, P=0.0007), rim area (r=0.115, P<0.001), rim volume (r=0.119, P<0.001), and optic nerve head volume (r=0.097, P<0.001). GCC thickness had no significant association with IOP, age, sex, or weight, waist, or head circumference.

This study provides normative GCC data for 7-year-old healthy children in China. The findings support an association between GCC and AL, SE, RNFL, height, and C-D ratio in children.

The surface topography index (STI) has great potential in both routine computed tomography (CT) scan and emerging optical imaging systems. However, the diagnostic accuracy and stability of the STI as a deformity severity assessment index has not been fully confirmed. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine the diagnostic performance of the STI as a novel deformity severity assessment index for pectus excavatum.

The present study consisted of 722 chest CT images from a single center. The standard CT index (CTI) and STI were calculated for all patients. The between-group difference and the level of compliance between the CTI and STI was analyzed by

A retrospective analysis was conducted to examine the anesthetic management of neonates (7 days or younger) undergoing thoracoscopic surgery in our hospital department, and to determine the efficacy of anesthetic management in neonates.

The generalized estimating equation model was used to analyze the factors influencing preoperative anxiety in children.

A total of 68 nurses working in the pediatric outpatient department of Xiangyang No. 1 People's Hospital were selected as the study subjects, and randomly divided into an experimental group (n=34) and a control group (n=34). Nurses in the control group received a traditional pediatric nursing teaching model, while those in the experimental group received a traditional pediatric nursing teaching model combined with the humanistic care teaching model. The effect of these two nursing teaching models on nurse-patient conflicts in the pediatric outpatient department and the turnover intention of nurses was then compared and analyzed.

There were no significant differences in personal information between the two groups (P>0.05). The strain capacity, operational capacity, nurse-patient communication skills, autonomous learning ability, and teamwofacing different nurse-patient conflicts with significant effect and is worthy of application and popularization in clinical nursing teaching.

One of features of Visual preference in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is that they tend to social stimuli to nonsocial stimuli. Though it has been studied widely, until now the results are still not consistent. One of the most important reasons may be that the stimuli of the past visual preference paradigm have different movement patterns. Therefore, the present study aimed to improve the visual preference paradigm to reduce the bias caused by different movement of stimuli and explore the features of visual preference of ASD further.

Two hundred and seven children who met DSM-5 criteria for ASD and 125 typically developmental (TD) children were enrolled. They were matched in age and gender. Visual preference was measured by eye tracking technology. The subjects presented simultaneously with dynamic object images (DOI) and dynamic social images (DSI) with the same type and same speed of repetitive movement. Social interaction deficits of ASD were assessed by parents with Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC).

Compared with TD children, the following findings were noted (I) children with ASD paid less attention to social stimuli and more attention to nonsocial stimuli (t=6.417, P<0.001). (II) Increased preference to DSI was positively correlated with age (R=0.23, P=0.001). (III) No association was noted between visual preference and IQ in children with ASD (R=0.081, P=0.435). (IV) Reduced preference to DSI was negatively correlated with the severity of social interaction impairment rated by parents with ABC in children with ASD (R=0.237, P=0.010).

Childhood allergic diseases are increasing worldwide with unprecedented complexity and severity, and they cause a major burden on health and healthcare costs. We aimed to identify potential factors, both in isolation and in combination, associated with allergic diseases among preschool-aged children, and to construct a nomogram prediction model based on significant factors.

We cross-sectionally recruited 9,501 preschool-aged children from 30 kindergartens in Beijing and Tangshan. Allergic diseases were ascertained according to the "International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood" questionnaire. Risk for allergic diseases is quantified by odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI).

Four factors were identified to be independently, consistently, and significantly associated with the risk for allergic diseases overall and by four clinical manifestations separately, including bedtime (per 1 hour late) (taking asthma/wheezing as an example, OR, 95% CI, P 1.21, 1.08 to 1.35, 0.001), outdoor actively.

The aim of this study was to explore the magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) imaging manifestations of a symptomatic Meckel's diverticulum (MD) in pediatric patients in order to provide a reference for the diagnosis of the condition.

The medical records of 31 pediatric patients with MD from May 2014 to October 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The inclusion criteria were patients with MD accompanied by unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding, anemia (except hematological diseases), chronic persistent abdominal pain, repeated intussusception, or intussusception in older pediatric patients during surgery. The clinical variables (age, sex, and hemoglobin) and imaging, surgical, and pathological findings were recorded.

MD was definitively identified in 28 patients, with the following characteristics a blind-ending fluid-filled and/or gas-filled structure (n=23), an elongated shape (n=1), a dumbbell shape (n=1), and a solid mass (n=3). The diverticula were located in the right lower quadrant (n=16), the right abdomen at the level of the umbilicus (n=3), the right upper quadrant (n=2), the left upper quadrant (n=2), and the midline lower abdomen (n=5).
