An electrical resistance sensor-based atmospheric corrosion monitor was employed to study the carbon steel corrosion in outdoor atmospheric environments by recording dynamic corrosion data in real-time. Data mining of collected data contributes to uncovering the underlying mechanism of atmospheric corrosion. In this study, it was found that most statistical correlation coefficients do not adapt to outdoor coupled corrosion data. In order to deal with online coupled data, a new machine learning model is proposed from the viewpoint of information fusion. It aims to quantify the contribution of different environmental factors to atmospheric corrosion in different exposure periods. Compared to the commonly used machine learning models of artificial neural networks and support vector machines in the corrosion research field, the experimental results demonstrated the efficiency and superiority of the proposed model on online corrosion data in terms of measuring the importance of atmospheric factors and corrosion prediction accuracy.Chemicals and industrial gases endanger both human health and the environment. The inhalation of colourless ammonia gas (NH3) can cause organ damage or even death in humans. Colourimetric materials are becoming more popular in the search for smart textiles for both fashion and specific occupational applications. Colourimetric textile sensors based on indicator dyes could be very useful for detecting strong gaseous conditions and monitoring gas leaks. In this study, black carrot extract (BCE) as a natural indicator dye and polyurethane (PU) polymer were used to develop a colourimetric sensor by electrospinning. Bcl 2 inhibitor The properties of the BCE/PU nanofibrous mats were characterized by the Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FTIR) and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The BCE caused a change in the morphology of the PU nanofibrous mat. To evaluate the colour shift due to NH3 vapour, the BCE/PU nanofibrous mats were photographed by a camera, and software was used to obtain the quantitative colour data (CIE L*a*b). The BCE/PU nanofibrous exhibited a remarkable colour change from pink-red to green-blue under NH3 vapour conditions with a fast response time (≤30 s). These findings showed that colourimetric nanofibrous textile sensors could be a promising in situ material in protective clothing that changes colour when exposed to harmful gases.Electron beam additive wire-feed deposition of Cu-7.5wt.%Al bronze on a stainless-steel substrate has been carried out at heat input levels 0.21, 0.255, and 0.3 kJ/mm. The microstructures formed at 0.21 kJ/mm were characterized by the presence of both zigzagged columnar and small equiaxed grains with 10% of Σ3 annealing twin grain boundaries. No equiaxed grains were found in samples obtained at 0.255 and 0.3 kJ/mm. The zigzagged columnar ones were only retained in samples obtained at 0.255 kJ/mm. The fraction of Σ3 boundaries reduced at higher heat input values to 7 and 4%, respectively. The maximum tensile strength was achieved on samples obtained with 0.21 kJ/mm as tested with a tensile axis perpendicular to the deposited wall's height. More than 100% elongation-to-fracture was achieved when testing the samples obtained at 0.3 kJ/mm (as tested with a tensile axis coinciding with the wall's height). The aim of the work is to present the possibility of generating intermediate levels in the band gap of p-type silicon doped with boron by using neon ion implantation in the aspect of improving the efficiency of photovoltaic cells made on its basis. The work contains an analysis of the influence of the dose of neon ions on the activation energy value of additional energy levels. The article presents the results of measurements of the capacitance and conductance of silicon samples with a resistivity of ρ = 0.4 Ω cm doped with boron, the structure of which was modified in the implantation process with Ne+ ions with the energy E = 100 keV and three different doses of D = 4.0 × 1013 cm-2, 2.2 × 1014 cm-2 and 4.0 × 1014 cm-2, respectively. Activation energies were determined on the basis of Arrhenius curves ln(et(Tp)/Tp2) = f(1/kTp), where Tp is in the range from 200 K to 373 K and represents the sample temperature during the measurements, which were carried out for the frequencies fp in the range from 1 kHz to 10 MHz. In the tested samples, additional energy levels were identified and their position in the semiconductor band gap was determined by estimating the activation energy value. The conducted analysis showed that by introducing appropriate defects in the silicon crystal lattice as a result of neon ion implantation with a specific dose and energy, it is possible to generate additional energy levels ∆E = 0.46 eV in the semiconductor band gap, the presence of which directly affects the efficiency of photovoltaic cells made on the basis of such a modified material.Hydrogenated microcrystalline silicon (µc-SiH) and epitaxial silicon (epi-Si) films have been produced from SiF4, H2 and Ar mixtures by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) at 200 °C. Here, both films were produced using identical deposition conditions, to determine if the conditions for producing µc-Si with the largest crystalline fraction (XC), will also result in epi-Si films that encompass the best quality and largest crystalline silicon (c-Si) fraction. Both characteristics are of importance for the development of thin film transistors (TFTs), thin film solar cells and novel 3D devices since epi-Si films can be grown or etched in a selective manner. Therefore, we have distinguished that the H2/SiF4 ratio affects the XC of µc-Si, the c-Si fraction in epi-Si films, and the structure of the epi-Si/c-Si interface. Raman and UV-Vis ellipsometry were used to evaluate the crystalline volume fraction (Xc) and composition of the deposited layers, while the structure of the films were inspected by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Notably, the conditions for producing µc-Si with the largest XC are different in comparison to the fabrication conditions of epi-Si films with the best quality and largest c-Si fraction.A database of material property relationships, which serves as a scientific principles database, and a database search system are proposed and developed. The use of this database can support a broader research perspective, which is increasingly important in the era of automated computer-aided experimentation and machine learning of experimental and calculated data. Examples of the wider use of scientific principles in materials research are presented. The database and its advantages are described. An implementation of the proposed database and search system as a prototype software is reported. The usefulness of the database and search system is demonstrated by an example of a surprising but reasonable discovery.
A new instrumentation exploiting magneto-dynamic technology (mallet) proposed for implant site preparation was investigated.
In the tibias of three minipigs, two sites were prepared by mallet and two by drill technique. Primary stability (ISQ) was detected after implant positioning (T0) and at 14 days (T14). X-rays and computed tomography were performed. At T14, bone samples were utilized for histological and biomolecular analyses.
In mallet sites, histological evaluations evidenced a significant increase in the newly formed bone, osteoblast number, and a smaller quantity of fibrous tissue. These results agree with the significant BMP-4 augmentation and the positive trend in other osteogenic factors (biological and radiological investigations). Major, albeit IL-10-controlled, inflammation was present. For both techniques, at T14 a significant ISQ increase was evidenced, but no significant difference was observed at T0 and T14 between the mallet and drill techniques. In mallet sites, lateral bone condensation was observed on computed tomography.
Using biological, histological, clinical, and radiological analyses, this study first shows that the mallet technique is effective for implant site preparation. Based on its ability to cause osseocondensation and improve newly formed bone, mallet technology should be chosen in all clinical cases of poor bone quality.

To meet this objective, concrete specimens were manufactured by using 1100 kg/m3 of binder, water/binder ratio 0.20, silica sand and last generation of superplasticizer. Silica fume, metakaolin and two types of nano silica were used for improving the performances of the concrete. Additional mixtures included 13 mm long OL steel fibers. Compressive strength, electrical resistivity, mercury intrusion porosimetry tests, and differential and thermogravimetric thermal analysis were carried out. The binary combination of nano silica and metakaolin, and the ternary combination of nano silica with metakaolin and silica fume, led to the best performances of the UHPC, both mechanical and durable performances. In this study, hydrogen (H2) and methane (CH4) were used as reactive gases, and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) was used to grow single-layer graphene on a copper foil substrate. The single-layer graphene obtained was transferred to a single-crystal silicon substrate by PMMA transfer technology for the subsequent growth of nano zinc oxide. The characteristics of CVD-deposited graphene were analyzed by a Raman spectrometer, an optical microscope, a four-point probe, and an ultraviolet/visible spectrometer. The sol-gel method was applied to prepare the zinc oxide seed layer film with the spin-coating method, with methanol, zinc acetate, and sodium hydroxide as the precursors for growing ZnO nanostructures. On top of the ZnO seed layer, a one-dimensional zinc oxide nanostructure was grown by a hydrothermal method at 95 °C, using a zinc nitrate and hexamethylenetetramine mixture solution. The characteristics of the nano zinc oxide were analyzed by scanning electron microscope(SEM),x-ray diffractometer(XRD), and Raman spectrometer. The obtained graphene/zinc oxide nano-heterostructure sensor has a sensitivity of 1.06 at a sensing temperature of 205 °C and a concentration of hydrogen as low as 5 ppm, with excellent sensing repeatability. The main reason for this is that the zinc oxide nanostructure has a large specific surface area, and many oxygen vacancy defects exist on its surface. In addition, the P-N heterojunction formed between the n-type zinc oxide and the p-type graphene also contributes to hydrogen sensing.Magnesium (Mg)- and silicon (Si)-substituted hydroxyapatite (HA) scaffolds were synthesized using the sponge replica method. The influence of Mg2+ and SiO44- ion substitution on the microstructural, mechanical and biological properties of HA scaffolds was evaluated. All synthesized scaffolds exhibited porosity >92%, with interconnected pores and pore sizes ranging between 200 and 800 μm. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that β-TCP was formed in the case of Mg substitution. X-ray fluorescence mapping showed a homogeneous distribution of Mg and Si ions in the respective scaffolds. Compared to the pure HA scaffold, a reduced grain size was observed in the Mg- and Si-substituted scaffolds, which greatly influenced the mechanical properties of the scaffolds. Mechanical tests revealed better performance in HA-Mg (0.44 ± 0.05 MPa), HA-Si (0.64 ± 0.02 MPa) and HA-MgSi (0.53 ± 0.01 MPa) samples compared to pure HA (0.2 ± 0.01 MPa). During biodegradability tests in Tris-HCl, slight weight loss and a substantial reduction in mechanical performances of the scaffolds were observed.
