Persons with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) may be particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 either because of their underlying disease or its management. Guidance has been presented on the management of persons with IBD in the time of this pandemic by different groups. We aimed to determine how gastroenterologists around the world were approaching the management of IBD.

Members of the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO) IBD Task Force contacted colleagues in countries largely beyond North America and Europe, inviting them to review the WGO website for IBD and COVID-19 introduction, with links to guideline documents, and then to respond to 9 ancillary open-ended management questions.

Fifty-two gastroenterologists from 33 countries across 6 continents completed the survey (April 14 to May 16, 2020). They were all adhering for the most part to published guidelines on IBD management in the COVID-19 era. Some differences and reductions in services related to access, and some related to approach within their communities in terms of limiting virus spread. In particular, most gastroenterologists reduced in-person clinics (43 of 52), limited steroid use (47 of 51), limited elective endoscopy (45 of 52), and limited elective surgeries (48 of 51). To explore the value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in the detection of active pulmonary artery (PA) lesions in patients with Takayasu's arteritis (TA).

Consecutive TA patients with PA involvement were prospectively recruited. Clinical activity was assessed according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) criteria. CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA) or magnetic resonance pulmonary angiography was performed for evaluation of vascular structural characteristics, and mural thickening was considered as radiologically active. A vascular segment with 18F-FDG uptake ≥ liver was considered as PET-active. A total of 38 18F-FDG PET/CT scans were performed in 29 patients. In terms of disease activity, the sensitivity of 18F-FDG PET/CT did not significantly differ from radiological imaging (71.4% vs. 92.9%, P = 0.250), but 18F-FDG PET/CT had higher specificity (91.7% vs. 37.5%, P = 0.001) and accuracy (84.2% vs. 57.9%, P = 0.022). Although the majority of PET-active PA segments (54.9%) showed mural thickening, 14 PA segments with normal structure were also PET-active. 18F-FDG activity did not significantly differ between the PA and aorta in clinically active patients. In addition, 18F-FDG activity of the PA was positively correlated with inflammatory markers. Changes in 18F-FDG activity in PA during follow-up reflected therapeutic effects.

Patients' self-reports of current gout flares were assessed with the question, 'Are you having a gout flare today?' which was then compared with a concurrent, blinded, physician's assessment. Based on agreement or disagreement with physicians on the presence of a gout flare, flares were divided into concordant and discordant groups, respectively. To tackle this problem, both horizontal and vertical data integrations have been developed, where vertical integration methods collectively analyze data on gene expressions as well as their regulators (such as mutations, DNA methylation and miRNAs). In this article, we conduct a selective review of vertical data integration methods for gene expression data. The reviewed methods cover both marginal and joint analysis and supervised and unsupervised analysis. The main goal is to provide a sketch of the vertical data integration paradigm without digging into too many technical details. The pressures of academic life and the lack of any reward system at institutions, granting agencies and journals means that publishing reproducible science is often either non-existent or, at best, presented in the form of an incomplete description. In the article, we will focus on repeatability and reproducibility in the systems biology field where a great many published models cannot be reproduced and in many cases even repeated. This review describes the current landscape of software tooling, model repositories, model standards and best practices for publishing repeatable and reproducible kinetic models. Flax fibers are claimed to have exceptional vibration damping properties, with the added benefit of being a natural, renewable resource and a cost-effective alternative to synthetic fibers. Flax fibers could prove beneficial for prosthetic sockets, providing lightweight sockets that reduce vibrations transmitted to the body during movement. This research used impact testing (impulse hammer and custom drop tower) on flat and socket shaped composite samples to evaluate composite layer options. Sample vibration dissipation was measured by a combination of accelerometers, load cells, and a dynamometer. Composite sockets made purely of flax fibers were lighter and more efficient at damping vibrations, reducing the amplification of vibrations by a factor of nearly four times better than sockets made purely of carbon fiber. However, the bending stiffness, elastic moduli, and flexural strength of flax sockets fabricated using the traditional socket manufacturing method were found to be ten times lower than theoretical values of flax composites found in the literature. SAR, which engages salicylic acid (SA) signaling, shares molecular components with the autonomous pathway, which is involved in controlling flowering time in Arabidopsis thaliana. FLOWERING LOCUS D (FLD) is one such autonomous pathway component that is required for flowering time and the systemic accumulation of SA during SAR. Here, we show that CYP720A1, a putative cytochrome P450 monoxygenase, controls FLD expression and is required for the timing of flowering and the manifestation of SAR. We investigated circulating syndecan-1, HA and thrombomodulin levels in patients with biopsy-proven Class III/IV ± V LN and their clinico-pathological associations. Patients with non-renal SLE or non-lupus chronic kidney disease, and healthy subjects served as controls.
