We present outcomes from a large-scale air quality citizen science campaign (xAire, 725 measurements) to demonstrate its positive contribution in the interplay between advances in exposure assessment and developments in policy or collective action. this website A broad partnership with 1,650 people from communities around 18 primary schools across Barcelona provided the capacity to obtain unprecedented high-resolution NO2 levels and an updated asthma Health Impact Assessment. It is shown that NO2 levels vary considerably with at some cases very high levels. More than a 1,000 new cases of childhood asthma could be prevented each year by lowering NO2 levels. Representativity of site selection and the minimal number of samplers for land use regression modelling are considered. Enhancement of community knowledge and attitudes towards collective response were observed and identified as key drivers for successful large-scale monitoring campaigns. The results encourage strengthening collaboration with local communities when exploring environmental health issues. To improve the efficiency of Ni phytoextraction, the metal hyperaccumulator N. goesingensis was subject to treatment with a combination of a Ni uptake stimulating microorganism and the commercially available, IAA- based biostimulating seaweed extract - Kelpak. Additionally, we compared the plant growth promoting and Ni uptake capabilities of the two biofertilizers. Treatment with the Kelpak alone had no significant effect on plant growth or Ni accumulation. Inoculation of N. goesingensis with Phomopsis columnaris significantly improved the biomass of the hyperaccumulating plant and Ni yield per plant and improved several plant biometric features such as fresh and dry weight and several others related to leaf and root size. However, the combination of the two treatments yielded the best results; plants treated with the two growth promoting agents yielded 85% more biomass compared to not treated plants and accumulated 48% more Ni per plant. To verify plant inoculation with the fungus we generated a GFP expressing strain of P. columnaris and visualized the fungus in both plant leaves and roots. To trace the development of the fungus in planta and to evaluate the effect of biostimulant treatment on mycelium development fungal translational elongation factor 1α (tef1α) DNA was quantified with qPCR. Upon biofertilizer the abundance P. columnaris in plant leaves increased nearly 5-fold. The utilization of plant growth stimulating microorganisms, endophytic fungi in particular, can significantly improve Ni phytoextraction in hyperaccumulator N. goesingensis.

Risk factors for child abuse and neglect and commonly used reporting mechanisms were highly affected by SARS-Cov-2 pandemic; yet, little is known about the effects of SARS-Cov-2 on rates of child abuse and neglect.

To compare overall rates, demographics, types of abuse and acuity of child abuse and neglect encounters seen at one university health system for the 6months before and after school closings due to the SARS-Cov-2 pandemic.

Data was extracted from a database of billed ICD10 codes for child abuse and neglect including sexual abuse codes. There were 579 encounters for patients <18years of age and 476 unique patients.

In addition to ICD10 code and pre/post school closing, each encounter was identified to be inpatient, outpatient and/or emergency department. Demographic data such as age, gender, ethnicity, and race were extracted. Incident rate ratios in addition to descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, two-sample t-test, or the chi-square test of association were used in the analysis.

No significant differences were identified for total rates of child abuse and neglect encounters (p=.08), physical abuse (p=.91) nor child maltreatment (p=.86) codes or in the age (p=.46), gender (p=.58), and race/ethnicity (p=.15) of patient encounters pre- versus post-school closings. The sexual abuse incidence and inpatient encounters increased by 85% (IRR=1.85, p<.0001; IRR=1.85, p=.004, respectively).

Our findings provide a unique contribution to the existing literature in that we identified a significant increase in the incidence of sexual abuse and higher patient acuity as evidenced by higher rates of inpatient encounters after school closing due to SARS-Cov-2.

Previous research has found associations between cyberbullying victimization and nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) in adolescents. Exploration of the possible mediating variables involved is necessary to support intervention with victims.

This study examined whether depression and early maladaptive schemas (EMS) mediate the association between cyberbullying victimization and NSSI, along with the potential protective role of dispositional mindfulness.

A total of 742 Spanish adolescents (50.20% girls) between 12 and 17years old (M=14.58; SD=1.00) participated in the final sample.

Participants completed measures of cyberbullying victimization, NSSI, EMS, depression, and mindfulness facets. Mediational models moderated by facets of mindfulness were tested.

Cyberbullying victimization was associated with NSSI through increased depression and EMS. Acting with awareness buffered the association between cyberbullying victimization and NSSI, whereas non-judging increased the association between cyberbullying victimization and depression.

Cybervictimization is associated with NSSI. The mindfulness facet of acting with awareness plays a protector role. Interventions in NSSI and cyberbullying could benefit from these findings.

We describe an unusual case of a young man who developed severe rhombencephalitis after COVID-19. He demonstrated clinical and radiological improvement with high dose corticosteroids, plasma exchange and intravenous immune globulin. Our findings, along with previously reported cases that we review here, support an autoimmune para- or post-infectious mechanism and highlight a possible role for immunotherapy in patients with rhombencephalitis after COVID-19.
