an adolescent population resulted in the larger mean differences between groups.Gray matter atrophy in multiple sclerosis (MS) is thought to be associated with disability and cognitive impairment, but previous studies have sometimes had discordant results, and the atrophy patterns of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) and primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS) remain to be clarified. We conducted a meta-analysis using anisotropic effect-size-based algorithms (AES-SDM) to identify consistent findings from whole-brain voxel-based morphometry (VBM) studies of gray matter volume (GMV) in 924 RRMS patients and 204 PPMS patients. This study is registered with PROSPERO (number CRD42019121319). Compared with healthy controls, RRMS and PPMS patients showed gray matter atrophy in the cortico-striatal-thalamic network, sensorimotor network, and bilateral insula. RRMS patients had a larger GMV in the left insula, cerebellum, right precentral gyrus, and bilateral putamen as well as a smaller GMV in the bilateral cingulate, caudate nucleus, right thalamus, superior temporal gyrus and left postcentral gyrus than PPMS patients. The disease duration, Expanded Disability Status Scale score, Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test z-score, and T2-weighted lesion load were associated with specific gray matter regions in RRMS or PPMS. Alterations in the cortico-striatal-thalamic networks, sensorimotor network, and insula may be involved in the common pathogenesis of RRMS and PPMS. The deficits in the cingulate gyrus and caudate nucleus are more apparent in RRMS than in PPMS. The more severe cerebellum atrophy in PPMS may be a brain feature associated with its neurological manifestations. These imaging biomarkers provide morphological evidence for the pathophysiology of MS and should be verified in future research.Intense agricultural activity in recent years has resulted in a greater use of pesticides in order to improve productivity. However, these pesticides may contain some pollutant component in their composition. Once present in the environment and/or in excess, they can cause damage to the local flora and fauna. The aim of this study was to evaluate the interference of pesticides in the reproductive aspects of male and female specimens collected in two distinct sampling sites and propose a methodology to investigate pesticide effects associated with the reproduction at a macroscopic level for reptile specimens from zoological collection. The results showed that males located in the area with the use of agricultural pesticides had a lower testicle volume compared with the ones located in the area that did not use pesticides. Protein Tyrosine Kinase inhibitor However, no difference was found regarding the volume of eggs compared at the same stage and the average clutch size of each population. Therefore, the present study indicates the analyzed pesticides might influence the reproduction of the studied males. Despite no evident alterations in egg volume and quantity in the area with pesticide use, our findings suggest further studies on the structure and composition of eggshell and yolk in order to assess the effects of pesticides on their viability. The insects' infestation decreases the nutritive value of the stored grains and causes losses in its weight, quality, or economic values. The aim of the present study was to investigate the efficiency of a natural product of clove and lemongrass extracts in controlling of red flour beetle (Tribolium castaneum) in different feedstuffs and commercial poultry diets. Different concentrations of the tested product (5, 10, 20, 50, 100 mg) were mixed with 10 g of different feedstuffs and poultry diets, and incubated at different time points. The percent repellency (PR), toxicity effect, and antifeedant activity of the plant extracts compound were assessed. The PR was detected depending on the choice method. It was found that the PR was dose and time dependent. The highest doses (50 or 100 mg/10 g feed) achieved the highest repellency effect reaching 70% at 24 h post-application (PA). The minimal PR was reported by the lowest dose of 5 mg/10 g feed reaching 50% at 24 h PA. Moreover, the PR was found to decrease by tie damage by this insect. This paper analyzes the effects of climate change on African agricultural total factor productivity (TFP) growth and test whether agricultural TFP levels are converging in the region. The study uses cross-country balanced panel data covering 35 countries from 1981 to 2010 and a technological catching-up model based on the Ricardian analysis estimated by Feasible Generalized Least Square (FGLS) regression. Historical country-wide rainfall and temperature are climate factors included in the model. Education, capital intensity, and arable land equipped with irrigation are other potential confounding variables in the regression. The empirical results show that levels of African agricultural TFP are converging over time, though the rate of convergence appears relatively slow in the region. We also find that rain significantly increases agricultural TFP growth, but temperature does not affect the study's African agricultural TFP growth. Other results show that education, capital intensity, and arable land equipped with irrigation significantly increased agricultural TFP growth.Spatiotemporal distributions of heavy metals (HMs) and their contamination status linked with the sedimentary environment were investigated in 2 monitoring years (MY-I and MY-II) along the Pakistan coast. The concentrations of HMs in sediments were analyzed through an atomic absorption spectrometer and presented the following order Fe > Zn > Cu > Pb ≈ Cr > Ni > Co > Cd in MY-I and Fe > Cr > Zn > Ni > Cu > Pb > Co > Cd in MY-II. In the coastal sediments, all HMs surpassed the edges of shale values and sediment quality guidelines, excluding Fe. The burial flux (FB), mass inventory (MI), and deposition flux (FD) of HMs were evaluated and compared to explore the potential of sediments to adsorb and desorb the metals into the marine environment during the last decade. Metal-specific pollution indices (Igeo, EF, Cf, and Er) presented moderate contamination of Cu, Zn, Cr, Ni, and Co but considerable contamination of Pb and Cd in sediments. However, site-specific geoindicators (CD, RI, and PLI) signified the Sandspit as the highest polluted site along the coastal vicinity. Multivariate analyses via principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) also highlighted the significant interactions between geochemical properties. The current study concluded the high pollution state toward the HMs and rendered the knowledge for policymaking and conserving the coastal and estuarine environment of Pakistan bordering the Northern Arabian Sea.In this work, a simple and environmental-friendly nitrogen glow discharge plasma reduction method has been developed for synthesizing palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) supported on exfoliated Mg-Al-layered double hydroxide (Pd/LDH) catalysts. The as-prepared catalysts were characterized by means of characterizations methods, which contain X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). Highly dispersed ultrafine PdNPs were supported on exfoliated, defect-induced LDHs uniformly without agglomeration. The effects of treatment time of nitrogen plasma and Pd loading amount on structure, morphology, and catalytic performance of Pd/LDHs were investigated. The comparisons of structure and morphology between LDHs and Pd/LDHs were also discussed. The average particle size of as-synthesized PdNPs with face-centered cubic structure is 2.01 nm, which ranges from 1.18 to 3.01 nm. Nitrogen plasma cannot only reduce Pd2+, but also exfoliate LDHs, introduce defects, and even destroy the structure of LDHs. The Pd/LDH catalyst with 1 wt% Pd loading under nitrogen plasma treatment for 60 min showed the best catalytic performance in 4-nitrophenol reduction. The turnover frequency (TOF) of as-prepared catalyst is 20-fold higher than that of commercial Pd/C catalyst.Major depressive disorder (MDD), also referred to as depression, is one of the most common psychiatric disorders with a high economic burden. The etiology of depression is still not clear, but it is generally believed that MDD is a multifactorial disease caused by the interaction of social, psychological, and biological aspects. Therefore, there is no exact pathological theory that can independently explain its pathogenesis, involving genetics, neurobiology, and neuroimaging. At present, there are many treatment measures for patients with depression, including drug therapy, psychotherapy, and neuromodulation technology. In recent years, great progress has been made in the development of new antidepressants, some of which have been applied in the clinic. This article mainly reviews the research progress, pathogenesis, and treatment of MDD.Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have the ability to migrate to the site of injury or inflammation, and to contribute to the healing process. Since patients treated with MSCs are often users of analgesic drugs, to relieve their uncomfortable pain associated with the tissue disorder, there is a possibility of negative effects of these drugs on the migration of endogenous and exogenous MSCs. Therefore, we tested the impact of acute and chronic treatment with morphine on the migration and organ distribution of exogenous adipose tissue-derived MSCs in mouse models. Firstly, we showed that the incubation of MSCs with morphine significantly reduced the expression of adhesive molecules CD44 (HCAM), CD54 (ICAM-1) and CD106 (VCAM-1) on MSCs. Using a model of systemic administration of MSCs labeled with vital dye PKH26 and by the application of flow cytometry to detect living CD45-PKH26+ cells, we found a decreased number of labeled MSCs in the lung, spleen and bone marrow, and a significantly increased number of MSCs in the liver of morphine-treated recipients. A skin allograft model was used to study the effects of morphine on the migration of exogenous MSCs to the superficial wound. Intraperitoneally administered MSCs migrated preferentially to the wound site, and this migration was significantly decreased in the morphine-treated recipients. The present results showed that morphine significantly influences the distribution of exogenous MSCs in the body, and decreases their migration to the site of injury.

The data on the distribution and patternofdental trauma inthe primary dentitionare very rare.

To investigate primary dental trauma patterns in relation to gender, age, time and cause for a recent paediatric cohort and to compare this with a historic one before German unification.

This retrospective study compared the patterns of dental trauma injuries at the trauma centre at Greifswald University/Germany for a recent paediatric cohort (2014-16, 103 children) with a historic one (1974-1989, n = 120). The data contained details on etiology, injury types and treatment delivered for 450 injured teeth (247 historic, 203 recent).

In both cohorts, the occurrence was more common in males than females (63%/55%, resp.) with an age peak from 2 to 6years. Maxillary incisors were most affected (89.6%/88.6%, resp.) and periodontal ligament injuries dominated (77.8%/90.3%, resp.). Almost half of the injuries occurred at home (46.6%), mostly due to falling (48.5%) or during playing (37.8%) in the recent paediatric cohort which provided better forensic data due to insurance issues and potential concern about child abuse.
