Fisheye images with a far larger Field of View (FOV) have severe radial distortion, with the result that the associated image feature matching process cannot achieve the best performance if the traditional feature descriptors are used. To address this challenge, this paper reports a novel distorted Binary Robust Independent Elementary Feature (BRIEF) descriptor for fisheye images based on a spherical perspective model. Firstly, the 3D gray centroid of feature points is designed, and the position and direction of the feature points on the spherical image are described by a constructed feature point attitude matrix. Then, based on the attitude matrix of feature points, the coordinate mapping relationship between the BRIEF descriptor template and the fisheye image is established to realize the computation associated with the distorted BRIEF descriptor. Four experiments are provided to test and verify the invariance and matching performance of the proposed descriptor for a fisheye image. The experimental results show that the proposed descriptor works well for distortion invariance and can significantly improve the matching performance in fisheye images.Colistin, an imperative member of the polymyxin group, is a cationic peptide antibiotic. Itis also known as polymyxin E, but this peptide antibiotic has been forbidden for human consumption due to its high toxicity. Regrettably, this antibiotic is utilized as a feed additive and veterinary drug for animals. Due to the toxicity of colistin, the presence of its residue in the animal system represents a threat to human health regarding the consumption of meat, especially chicken. A novel method was proposed for quantifying colistin B in chicken muscles and eggs using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). In this method, extraction of colistin B from samples was achieved by mixing the sample with acidified methanolwater (1/1, v/v), followed by centrifugation and filtration by a membrane filter excluding solid-phase extraction (SPE) clean up, as well as evaporation steps. The analysis was conducted by optimized liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)ples collected from nearby provinces in Solan city, Himachal Pradesh, India, and three out of 20 muscles were found to have colistin B in the range of 50-560 µg Kg-1.Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a mycotoxin occurring in foods consumed by humans. Recently, there has been growing global concern regarding OTA toxicity. The main target organ of OTA is the kidney, but the mechanism underlying renal toxicity is not well known. In this study, human-derived proximal tubular epithelial cells, HK-2 cells, were used for RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) and transcriptome analysis. In total, 3193 differentially expressed genes were identified upon treatment with 200 nM OTA in HK-2 cells; of these, 2224 were upregulated and 969 were downregulated. Transcriptome analysis revealed that OTA significantly affects hypoxia, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), apoptosis, and xenobiotic metabolism pathways in kidney cells. PLX8394 Quantitative real-time PCR analysis showed gene expression patterns similar to RNA-seq analysis. Expression of EMT markers (E-cadherin and fibronectin), apoptosis markers (caspase-3 and Bax), and kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) was suppressed by inhibiting AhR expression using siRNA, and the related transcription factors, Smad2/3, and HIF-1α were downregulated. Smad2/3 suppression with siRNA could inhibit fibronetcin, caspase-3, Bax, and KIM-1 expression. Fibronetcin, caspase-3, Bax, and KIM-1 expression could be increased with HIF-1α suppression with siRNA. Taken together, these findings suggest that OTA-mediated kidney toxicity via the AhR-Smad2/3-HIF-1α signaling pathways leads to induction of EMT, apoptosis, and kidney injury.Many real-life processes are black-box problems, i.e., the internal workings are inaccessible or a closed-form mathematical expression of the likelihood function cannot be defined. For continuous random variables, likelihood-free inference problems can be solved via Approximate Bayesian Computation (ABC). However, an optimal alternative for discrete random variables is yet to be formulated. Here, we aim to fill this research gap. We propose an adjusted population-based MCMC ABC method by re-defining the standard ABC parameters to discrete ones and by introducing a novel Markov kernel that is inspired by differential evolution. We first assess the proposed Markov kernel on a likelihood-based inference problem, namely discovering the underlying diseases based on a QMR-DTnetwork and, subsequently, the entire method on three likelihood-free inference problems (i) the QMR-DT network with the unknown likelihood function, (ii) the learning binary neural network, and (iii) neural architecture search. The obtained results indicate the high potential of the proposed framework and the superiority of the new Markov kernel.Thermogenesis plays an important role in the survival of sheep exposed to low temperatures; however, little is known about the genetic mechanisms underlying cold adaptation in sheep. We examined 6 Altay (A) and 6 Hu (H) six-month-old ewe lambs. Altay sheep are raised in northern China and are adapted to dry, cold climates, while Hu sheep are raised in southern China and are adapted to warm, humid climates. Each breed was divided into two groups chronic cold sheep, exposed to -5 °C for 25 days (3 Ac; 3 Hc), and thermo-neutral sheep, maintained at 20 °C (3 Aw; 3 Hw). The transcriptome profiles of hypothalamus, tail-fat and perirenal fat tissues from these four groups were determined using paired-end sequencing for RNA expression analysis. There are differences in cold tolerance between Hu and Altay sheep. Under cold exposure of the lambs (1) UCP1-dependent thermogenesis and calcium- and cAMP-signaling pathways were activated; and (2) different fat tissues were activated in Hu and Altay lambs. Several candidate genes involved in thermogenesis including UCP1, ADRB3, ADORA2A, ATP2A1, RYR1 and IP6K1 were identified. Molecular mechanisms of thermogenesis in the sheep are discussed and new avenues for research are suggested.
