This qualitative explorative study was conducted to explore the key challenges and future directions of caring for women with epilepsy (WWE) from the perspectives of healthcare professionals who provide care for WWE in Palestine.

A qualitative explorative design was used in this study in adherence to the consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research. The study participants were interviewed in semi-structured in-depth interviews using a pre-validated and pilot-tested interview schedule. The interpretative description approach was used to qualitatively analyze the contents of the interviews.

Interviews were conducted with 6 neurologists, 5 gynecologists, 3 psychiatrists, 5 clinical pharmacists, and 1 internal medicine specialist. The current challenges and future directions in caring for WWE were grouped under healthcare system-, healthcare provider-, patient-, and society-related. Lack of adequate availability, accessibility, and affordability of neurology services and safe antiepileptic drugs these challenges can improve the care of WWE in Palestine. The need for reliable and precise analytical techniques for food authentication and traceability has increased in recent decades due to the excessive competition for the production of competitive food products which leads to a high chance of food fraud. In this article, applications of several analytical techniques such as DNA-based techniques, spectrometric techniques, spectroscopic techniques, chromatographic techniques, lateral flow immunoassays, and neutron and proton based nuclear analytical techniques for forensic food analysis have been discussed. These sophisticated techniques are capable to analyze the food samples rapidly and permit the identification of specific parameters which are useful for investigations of food frauds in various legal issues. These techniques also pave-the-way, to discover the answers to many important analytical questions relating to food authentication and traceability in the field of food forensics. In addition, forensic analysis of dyes in food, seafood, plant-based food, beverages, and forensic analysis of postmortem viscera are reviewed.UPLC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS were used to establish a method to simultaneously determine various pesticide residues in Panax notoginseng. Results showed that the limits of detection of 249 pesticides were all 5-10 μg/kg. The detection rate of pesticides in 121 P. notoginseng samples was 93.39%, and 19 pesticides were detected. According to the US Code of Federal Regulations, the Chinese Pharmacopoeia recommended algorithm, and the Japanese "positive list system", the pass rates of pesticide residues were 100%, 99.17%, and 89.26%, respectively. The chronic risk quotient (ADI%) and acute risk quotient (ARfD%) of P. notoginseng were 0.00-0.12% and 0.00-0.15%, respectively. In summary, the detection method established in this study can be used for routine analysis of various P. notoginseng pesticide residues. The pesticide residues in the main root samples of P. notoginseng were at a safe level and unlikely pose health risks to consumers.Rodenticides are widely used around the world since the 1950s. In Taiwan, an anti-rodent operation initiated 1977 and became a regular action annually implied by the government until 2014. This anti-rodent operation caused many animals of non-target species being exposed by rodenticides and became an environmental issue. The Black-winged Kite (Elanus caeruleus) is a small-sized diurnal raptor widely distributed in the Old World continent. Since 2000, a newly colonized population of this species occurred in Taiwan. Although the Black-winged Kites may suffer from the threats of rodenticides, the population is still growing and soon became the most abundant raptor in farmlands of Taiwan. Selleckchem Triparanol Whether the Black-winged Kite accumulates higher anticoagulant rodenticide residues than other raptors are still unclear. In this study, liver samples of Black-winged Kites were collected from 2013 to 2016, when the detected residues of anticoagulant rodenticides increased annually. The concentration of residue rodenticide was above 0.2 ppm among 30% of the detected samples, which is the toxicity threshold concentration of other raptors. In the meanwhile, the lesser ricefield rat (Rattus losea), the most common prey of Black-winged Kites, also extended the survival period after fed on rodenticide. The longer survival days after being poisoned can enhance the predation opportunity of raptors, thus affect the accumulated rodenticides in the raptors. This study demonstrates that the Black-winged Kite has higher concentration of anticoagulant rodenticide than most other raptors, which provide the case that the raptor can quickly accumulate rodenticide residues within a short period of time. The deposition is an important process of microplastics transporting from atmosphere to water and soil. But the spatial and temporal distribution of microplastics in urban atmospheric deposition and its influencing factors are poorly understood. The current study investigated the possible sources, spatial and temporal distribution, and potential ecological risk of microplastics in deposition from the valley basin of Lanzhou city during the COVID-19 pandemic (from February to August, 2020). The deposition flux of microplastics was 353.83 n m-2 d-1. Most plastic samples were small sized (50~500 µm) and transparent. The dominant chemical composition and shapes were PET, fragments and fibers, respectively. A modified method was conducted to identify the sources of microplastics, and the local sources were suggested as the main possible sources. The distribution of microplastics investigated through the inverse distance weight interpolation showed spatial variation and temporal differentiation which was dominated by the human activity. The rainfall also affected the temporal distribution. The preliminary assessment indicated higher potential ecological risk of microplastics in deposition. This study suggested the dominant effect of human activity on the source and distribution of atmospheric microplastic deposition in city. The decline in freshwater calcium has become a new environmental stressor to Daphnia with high calcium demand, however, the population dynamics and sexual reproduction of Daphnia under low calcium stress are still lack of deep understanding. To evaluate the impact of declined calcium on Daphnia from population level, we respectively exposed two clones of Daphnia pulex (CH and SH) to different calcium concentrations (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 5.0, 10.0, 25.0 mg L-1) for 30 days and recorded the population indicators. Results showed that total biomass, average dry weight per individual, total number of ephippia, total number of resting eggs of Daphnia pulex CH clone at 1.0 mg L-1 calcium decreased by 75.5%, 34.0%, 83.6%, and 77.6% compared with those at 25 mg L-1 calcium, while SH clone at 1.0 mg L-1 calcium decreased by 64.6%, 26.1%, 94.5%, and 82.2%, respectively. Importantly, Ca content in dry Daphnia pulex population of CH clone at 1.0 and 1.5 mg L-1 calcium decreased by 32.7% and 6.7% compared to those at 25 mg L-1 calcium, and SH clone at 1.0 mg L-1 and 1.5 mg L-1 calcium also decreased by 30.9% and 10.5%, respectively. Furthermore, low calcium significantly decreased the perimeter and surface area of ephippia. Interestingly, observation by scanning electron microscope found that low calcium changed the surface of ephippia. The negative impact of calcium decline on Daphnia population and sexual reproduction will inevitably endanger the persistence of species and genes at meta population level.Water pollution is one of the most critical issues worldwide and is a priority in all scientific agendas. The challenges and future outlooks for the management of agro-industrial biowaste and safe application of green nanomaterials for wastewater treatment are summarized.Extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling and inflammation in the infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP) are associated with cartilage degeneration and the severity of osteoarthritis (OA). Diabetes is associated with the progression of OA. However, it is still unclear whether diabetes can promote osteoarthritis by targeting the IPFP. In this study, we established a high-fat diet/streptozotocin (HFD/STZ)-induced diabetes mouse model. We found that fibrosis and inflammation were more severe in the IPFP in diabetic mice. Transcriptomic profiling showed that MFAP5 expression was upregulated in IPFPs collected from diabetic mice compared to IPFPs collected from normal mice. We identified that Pdgfrα(+) progenitors were the primary source of MFAP5 in the IPFP under diabetic conditions. In addition, high glucose promoted the expression of MFAP5 in Pdgfrα(+) progenitors by stimulating the translocation of Yap1. Overexpression of MFAP5 in Pdgfrα(+) progenitors promoted fibrogenic differentiation and the production of IL-6. Knocking down the expression of MFAP5 efficiently prevented fibrosis and decreased the level of IL-6 in the IPFP and attenuated cartilage degeneration. Together, these results suggest that MFAP5 may be a potential novel therapeutic target for the treatment of diabetes-induced OA.The circadian clock has paramount implications in physiology and pathology. Although the circadian clock has been widely investigated in adults, up to now very little is known about how circadian rhythms emerge during embryonic development. Some studies about the ontology of the circadian system are focused on the development of the central pacemaker, whereas there is still no agreement about the development of the circadian clock in peripheral tissues. Our work represents the first attempt at investigating the onset of peripheral circadian clocks in the liver, which has a central role in controlling several aspects of human physiology. We profile the emergence of the circadian genes during the transition from the initial state of human pluripotency to the final state of hepatic maturation. We demonstrate that circadian rhythmicity is absent in human pluripotent stem cells, and it arises gradually during the process of hepatic commitment. The clock genes expression reaches a peak at the hepatic progenitor stage.
