To compare patient demographic data; level of severity; and clinical, diagnostic, and surgical practice patterns in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) in an academic setting vs nonacademic setting using the American Academy of Ophthalmology IRIS Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight).
A retrospective cohort study of IRIS Registry data that included patients with POAG who were seen between January 2016 and December 2019 and had at least 1 year of follow-up.
Of 3 707 084 distinct eyes with POAG, 3% (109 920) were included in the academic subcohort and 97% (3 597 164) were included in the nonacademic subcohort. Among the findings of greatest note (P < .0001 for all comparisons) were a higher proportion of eyes of Black patients, a higher proportion of eyes with level 3 severity, and a higher mean cup-to-disc ratio in eyes in the academic setting. The relative frequency of gonioscopy, pachymetry, and visual field testing in conjunction with new patient visits was also notably higher in ths related to clinical and surgical glaucoma care.
To describe the incidence and clinical characteristics of conjunctivitis in the first year of life.
Population-based cohort study.
All infant (≤12 months of age) residents of Olmsted County, Minnesota, diagnosed with conjunctivitis from January 1, 2005, through December 31, 2014.
The medical records of all potential cases identified by the Rochester Epidemiology Project database were reviewed.
Incidence rate and clinical features of infantile conjunctivitis.
A total of 2175 infants were diagnosed during the 10-year period, yielding an incidence of 10,422 per 100,000 children or approximately 1 in 10 infants by 1 year of age. The mean age at diagnosis was 4.9 months (range, 1 day-12 months), and 1001 (46.0%) were female. Both eyes were involved in 1180 (54.3%), the right eye alone in 506 (23.3%), and 489 (22.5%) in the left. Five hundred seventy-six (26.5%) of the 2175 were diagnosed at ≤30 days of life, from which topical cultures were obtained in 111 (19.7%). Only 36 (32.4%) of the cultures showed bacterial agents, with Chlamydia present in 3. Treatment for infantile conjunctivitis, where recorded, included topical antibiotics in 523 (90.8%) and simple observation in 47 (8.2%).

To evaluate the pattern of vision loss and genotype-phenotype correlations in WFS1-associated optic neuropathy (WON).
Multicenter cohort study.
The study involved 37 patients with WON carrying pathogenic or candidate pathogenic WFS1 variants. Genetic and clinical data were retrieved from the medical records. Thirteen patients underwent additional comprehensive ophthalmologic assessment. Deep phenotyping involved visual electrophysiology and advanced psychophysical testing with a complementary metabolomic study.

Twenty-two recessive and 5 dominant WFS1 variants were identified. Four variants were novel. All WFS1 variants caused loss of macular retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) as assessed by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and visual electrophysiology. Abnormal cleftlike lamination of the OPL is a distinctive OCT feature that strongly points toward dominant WON.A series of new 7-ethyl-10-fluoro-20-O-(cinnamic acid ester)-camptothecin derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for cytotoxicity against four human tumor cell lines including HepG2 (hepatocellular carcinoma), SW480 (colorectal cancer), A2780 (ovarian cancer), and Hucct1 (intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma). The results of cytotoxic activities in vitro showed that most of the camptothecin derivatives harbor promising cytotoxic activity against tested tumor cell lines. Among them, compound XJS-11 exhibited broad-spectrum inhibitory activities against HepG2, SW480, A2780, and Hucct1 cell lines with IC50 values of 0.03, 0.09, 0.22, and 0.32 μM, respectively. Further investigation demonstrated that compound XJS-11 exhibited more effective growth inhibition against a variety of human hepatoma cells (Sk-hep-1, Hep3B and Huh7) and lower cytotoxicity against immortalized normal human liver cell line L02 than the positive control topotecan. Especially, XJS-11 showed higher selective toxicity in two kinds of human hepatoma cells and immortalized normal human liver cell line (IC50(L-02)/IC50(HepG2) = 113.20; IC50(L-02)/IC50(Hep3B) = 85.60) than topotecan (IC50(L-02)/IC50(HepG2) = 9.45; IC50(L-02)/IC50(Hep3B) = 8.52). Mechanistically, XJS-11 induced cell cycle arrest and cell apoptosis in HepG2 and Hep3B cells by inhibiting Top I activity in a manner similar to that of topotecan. Meanwhile, XJS-11 could attenuate the tumor growth in both xenograft and primary HCC mouse models. In addition, the acute toxicity assay showed that XJS-11 did not cause lethality or significant body weight loss with a single intraperitoneal dose at 100 mg/kg or with an intraperitoneal dose at 25 mg/kg for 7 days. Moreover, unlike topotecan, XJS-11 had no apparent toxicity to the mouse liver, kidney, and hemopoietic system of the C57BL/6 mice. Taken together, XJS-11 merits further development as a new generation of the camptothecin-derived drug candidate.A fast neutron (FN) radiated mutant soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr., Fabaceae) displaying large duplications exhibited an increase in total seed protein content. A tandem mass tag (TMT) based protein profiling of matured seeds resulted in the identification of 4338 proteins. Gene duplication resulted in a significant increase in several seed storage proteins and protease inhibitors. Among the storage proteins, basic 7 S globulin, glycinin G4, and beta-conglycinin showed higher abundance in matured FN mutant seeds in addition to protease inhibitors. A significantly higher abundance of L-ascorbate peroxidases, acid phosphatases, and iron storage proteins was also observed. A higher amount of albumin, sucrose synthase, iron storage, and ascorbate family proteins in the mutant seeds was observed at the mid-stage of seed filling. We anticipate that the duplicated genes might have a cascading effect on the genome constituents, thus, resulting in increased storage and iron-containing protein content in the mutant seeds.
To analyse the role of nursing in the approach to axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) and to make proposals to include the role of rheumatology nursing consultations (RECs) in the quality certification of these specialized units.
A systematic review of the nursing role in quality certification systems in the management of axSpA was conducted. Subsequently a consensus conference was held with the participation of three rheumatology nurses to determine elements that should be considered in future revisions of certification standards.
The systematic review yielded five papers as relevant. None of the publications reviewed explicitly proposed standards applicable to nursing care in the management of patients with axSpA, although they contemplated the activities of this professional group. The proposals agreed upon to incorporate the role of RECs in the certification standards for axSpA monographic units included the following basic equipment and resources, organization, administration of pharmacological treatments and promotion of adherence, standardized programmes for axSpA, telematic consultation for monitoring the stable patient, registry of patient-reported outcome measures and e-consultation.
The literature on quality standards and certification standards for axSpA monographic units is scarce and hardly reflects the role of RECs in providing quality care. The consensus proposals in this study would incorporate RECs into quality certification standards. In the future, the increased presence of RECs in Spain should be accompanied by a review of the indicators regarding their role.

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a malignant hemopathy within the framework of chronic myeloproliferative syndromes, predominant on the granular line. Her drug treatment is based on tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) which inhibit the abnormal BCR-ABL protein kinase that causes CML and thus block the signals that cause cancer cells to multiply abnormally. However, other proteins are also inhibited, so they can cause a wide range of adverse effects (AEs). The objective of this study was to study the prevalence of AEs of TKIs used in the therapeutic management of CML by the hematology department of University Hospital Center (UHC) of Sidi Bel-Abbes in Algeria and that of the ITK discontinuation following an AE.

The use of living kidney donors is increasing and there are several surgical approaches for donor nephrectomy but it remains unknown which procedure is optimal for the patient and the graft.
To review different surgical techniques for living donor nephrectomy and compare complication rates, warm ischemia time, and delayed graft function.
A systematic review of prospective studies involving surgical complications following living donor nephrectomy was conducted in the MEDLINE/PubMed and EMBASE databases according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P). Baseline data, perioperative and postoperative parameters, and postoperative complications are reported. Overall complication rates between surgical techniques were compared via analysis of variance with post hoc analysis. We included 35 studies involving 6398 patients and representing six different surgical procedures for living donor nephrectomy.
Hand-assisted laparoscopic donor nephrectomy had a sOverall, the different surgical techniques were similar in terms of complications and no donors died in the studies we reviewed. The choice of procedure depends on multiple factors such as the expertise of the surgeon and the surgical center.
