The purpose of the present note is to draw attention to the potential role of a recently discovered visual illusion in creating traffic accidents. The illusion consists in a compelling and immediate experience that the space behind an occluding object in the foreground is empty. Although the illusion refers to a region of space, which is invisible due to occlusion (a blind spot), there is evidence to suggest that it is nevertheless driven by visual mechanisms and that it can be just as deceptive and powerful as ordinary visual illusions. We suggest that this novel illusion can make situations involving blind spots in a road user's field of view even more dangerous than one would expect based on the lack of visibility by itself. This could be because it erroneously makes the road user feel that (s)he has actually seen everything there is to see, and thus has verified that the blind spot is empty. This hypothesis requires further testing before definitive conclusions can be drawn, but we wish to make researchers and authorities involved in the analysis of traffic accidents and on-the-spot crash investigations aware of its potential role in order to encourage registration of relevant data and facilitate further research.Vehicular emissions containing traces of different heavy metals are known to cause significant contamination of roadside soils and plants. The present study was conducted to investigate the heavy metal concentrations in roadside soil and plant samples (Alstonia scholaris, Nerium oleander, Tabernaemontana divaricata, and Thevetia peruviana) collected from urban areas of Amritsar city of Punjab, India, under different traffic densities. The soil and plant samples were collected in pre- and post-monsoon seasons from seven roadside sites under varying levels of traffic density and analyzed for four heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn). In addition to that, total protein and carotenoid contents in plant samples were also determined. pH and electrical conductivity analysis of roadside soil samples revealed slight to strongly alkaline and non-saline nature of soil. Significant reduction in contents of total proteins and carotenoids was observed in plants collected from sites with moderate to high traffic density. The trend of heavy metal contents in plants and their corresponding soil samples was observed to be Zn > Cu > Pb > Cd for both the seasons. Index of geo-accumulation indicated moderate contamination of soil with metals analyzed, while bio-accumulation factor (BAF) showed both absorption and accumulation of metals in plants under study. The study revealed significant contamination of roadside soil and plants of Amritsar city which was linked to vehicular emissions posing potential risk to human health.Synthetic polymers remain to be a major choice for scaffold fabrication due to their structural stability and mechanical strength. However, the lack of functional moieties limits their application for cell-based therapies which necessitate modification and functionalization. Blending synthetic polymers with natural components is a simple and effective way to achieve the desired biological properties for a scaffold. Herein, nanofibrous mats made of polycaprolactone (PCL) and egg white protein (EWP) blend were developed and further evaluated for use as a scaffold for tissue engineering applications. Homogeneous distribution of EWP was achieved throughout the nanofibrous mats, as shown by immunohistochemistry. ATR-FTIR analysis and contact angle measurements have further confirmed the presence of EWP on the surface of the samples. The swelling test showed that PCL/EWP nanofibers have higher water uptake than PCL nanofibrous mats. Also, EWP addition on the nanofibrous mats resulted in an increase in the tensile strength and Young's modulus of the mats, indicating that the presence of protein can greatly enhance the mechanical properties of the mats. A significantly higher, more uniform, and dispersed cell spreading was observed on days 7 and 14 than that on neat PCL mats, demonstrating the importance of providing the required cues for cell homing by the availability of EWP. Hence, EWP is shown to be a simple and low-cost source for the functionalization of PCL nanofibrous mats. EWP is, therefore, a facile candidate to enhance cellular interactions of synthetic polymers for a wide range of tissue engineering applications.Lisofylline (LSF) is an anti-inflammatory molecule with high aqueous solubility and rapid metabolic interconversion to its parent drug, pentoxifylline (PTX) resulting in very poor pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters, necessitating high dose and dosing frequency. In the present study, we resolved the physicochemical and pharmacokinetic limitations associated with LSF and designed its oral dosage form as a tablet for effective treatment in type 1 diabetes (T1D). Self-assembling polymeric micelles of LSF (lisofylline-linoleic acid polymeric micelles (LSF-LA PLM)) were optimized for scale-up (6 g batch size) and lyophilized followed by compression into tablets. Powder blend and tablets were evaluated as per USP. LSF-LA PLM tablet so formed was evaluated for in vitro release in simulated biological fluids (with enzymes) and for cell viability in MIN-6 cells. LSF-LA PLM in tablet formulation was further evaluated for intestinal permeability (in situ) along with LSF and LSF-LA self-assembled micelles (SM) as controls in a rat model using single-pass intestinal perfusion (SPIP) study. SPIP studies revealed 1.8-fold higher oral absorption of LSF-LA from LSF-LA PLM as compared to LSF-LA SM and ~5.9-fold higher than LSF (alone) solution. Pharmacokinetic studies of LSF-LA PLM tablet showed greater Cmax than LSF, LSF-LA, and LSF-LA PLM. Designed facile LSF-LA PLM tablet dosage form has potential for an immediate decrease in the postprandial glucose levels in patients of T1D.
Patient-reported outcomes after surgery and anaesthesia have recently attracted attention. A recent systematic review and a consensus guideline recommend that patients' recovery can be adequately measured using the quality of recovery-15 (QoR-15) during the perioperative period; however, the Japanese version of the QoR-15 (QoR-15J) is not available. We aimed to translate the QoR-15 into Japanese and assess its validity.
After translating into Japanese, 205 patients who underwent various types of surgery under general anaesthesia were enrolled in the study. EPZ005687 QoR-15J was evaluated before surgery and 24h and 48h after surgery. Additionally, 30 patients answered the QoR-15J at 25h after surgery. We assessed the feasibility, reliability, validity, and responsiveness of the QoR-15J.
One patient who did not undergo surgery and two patients who were discharged within 24h were excluded. One hundred and eighty-seven patients answered the QoR-15J at 24h after surgery (completion rate, 92.6%) and 183 patients with complete data were included in the final analysis. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for internal reliability and Spearman rank correlation coefficient for test-retest reliability were 0.84 and 0.91, respectively. The Cohen effect size for all items was 1.42.
QoR-15 was translated into Japanese and the Japanese version's validity was assessed in patients undergoing various types of surgery under general anaesthesia. Our results suggest that QoR-15J is feasible, reliable, valid, and responsive.

Over the last decades, technological developments have strengthened the role of noninvasive imaging for detection, risk stratification, and management of patients with ischemic heart disease. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging incorporates both functional and morphological characterization of the heart to determine presence, acuteness, and severity of ischemic heart disease by evaluating myocardial wall motion and function, the presence and extent of myocardial edema, ischemia, and scarring. Currently established clinical protocols have already demonstrated their diagnostic and prognostic value. Nevertheless, there are emerging imaging technologies that provide additional information based on advanced quantification of imaging biomarkers and improved diagnostic accuracy, therefore potentially allowing reduction or avoidance of contrast and/or stressor agents. The aim of this review is to summarize the current state of the art of CMR imaging for ischemic heart disease and to provide insights into promising future developments.
Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) accounts for approximately 10-15% of all breast cancers and it is associated with a poor prognosis. However, recent new effective treatment strategies have improved its outcomes. The aim of this review is to provide an overview on the emerging therapeutics for TNBC, describing both previously approved therapies that are currently being repurposed, as well as new target therapies that may improve patient outcomes.
Emerging therapies are forthcoming in TNBC's treatment landscape, including new post-neoadjuvant chemotherapy strategies, PARP inhibitors, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and antibody-drug conjugates. Combination of different therapies such as AKT/PI3K/mTOR-inhibitors, other immunotherapeutic agents, CDK-inhibitors, antiandrogens, antiangiogenics, and histone deacetylase inhibitors is under clinical investigation. The treatment landscape for TNBC is gradually evolving towards a more personalized approach with promising expectations.

Differences in experiences of care reported by Asian Americans (Asians) compared to non-Hispanic Whites (Whites) may be due to lack of measurement invariance.
We evaluated the three-factor structure and the equivalence of responses to the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) Clinical and Group (CG-CAHPS) Adult Visit Survey 1.0 and compared care experiences of Asians and Whites. Thirteen questions were used to elicit reports about specific aspects of care and two questions assessed overall care perceptions. This analysis of the CAHPS database included 769 providers and 266,327 respondents. Most surveys (98%) were administered by mail and the rest (2%) by phone. Only 0.5% of the surveys were administered in Spanish. The sample was 64% female, 89% White and 2% Asian, 39% 65 years or older, and 32% were high school graduates or less.
A three-factor model was supported by categorical confirmatory factor analysis using weighted least squares with mean and variance adjustment confirmatory fit index (CFI) = 0.
