As expected, serum serotonin in the patients was significantly lower. Alterations in SERT and p11 in airline pilots could be related to professional stress, a condition that could potentially affect their long-term mental health.
In addition to many deaths due to the Coronavirus pandemic, many psychological issues and problems are affecting people's health. Including the constant anxiety and fear of infecting themselves and their families, COVID-19 has led to excessive spending of time in cyberspace and the Internet.
In this study, the role of fear and anxiety of COVID-19 in predicting Internet addiction among 1,008 students was investigated. The mediating role of the two components of self-compassion and cognitive emotion regulation has also been measured. Data collection was done online due to the outbreak of the disease and a modeling method was used to analyze the data.
The results shows that anxiety and fear of COVID-19 has a positive and significant relationship with both Internet addiction (
= 0.32) and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies (
= 0.17), and it has a negative relationship with self-compassion (
= -0.25).
The findings suggest that self-compassion can play a protective role against internet addiction at the time of COVID-19 pandemic while maladaptive strategies for emotion regulation can be risk factors for anxiety and fear of the virus.

Perceived treatment efficacy constitutes a relevant yet understudied aspect, especially in the context of the gut-brain axis with visceral pain as key symptom. Using a clinically relevant experimental model of visceral pain, we elucidated effects of pre-treatment expectations on post-treatment perceived treatment efficacy as an indicator of treatment satisfaction in a translational placebo intervention. We implemented positive suggestions regarding intravenous treatment with a spasmolytic drug (in reality saline), herein applied in combination with two series of individually calibrated rectal distensions in healthy volunteers. The first series used distension pressures inducing pain (pain phase). In the second series, pressures were surreptitiously reduced, modeling pain relief (pain relief phase). Using visual analog scales (VAS), expected and perceived treatment ion in visceral pain support that reported post-treatment medication efficacy is shaped by pre-treatment expectations. The observation that individuals with higher positive expectations reported less pain and higher treatment satisfaction after pain relief may provide first evidence that perceived symptom improvement may facilitate treatment satisfaction. Dooku1 The immediate experience of symptoms within a given psychosocial treatment context may dynamically change perceptions about treatment, with implications for treatment satisfaction, compliance and adherence of patients with conditions of the gut-brain axis.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a lifelong condition. Autistic symptoms can persist into adulthood. Studies have reported that autistic symptoms generally improved in adulthood, especially restricted and repetitive behaviors and interests (RRBIs). We explored brain networks that are related to differences in RRBIs in individuals with ASDs among different ages.
We enrolled 147 ASD patients from the Autism Brain Imaging Data Exchange II (ABIDEII) database. The participants were divided into four age groups children (6-9 years old), younger adolescents (10-14 years old), older adolescents (15-19 years old), and adults (≥20 years old). RRBIs were evaluated using the Repetitive Behaviors Scale-Revised 6. We first explored differences in RRBIs between age groups using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Associations between improvements in RRBIs and age were analyzed using a general linear model. We then analyzed RRBIs associated functional connectivity (FC) links using the network-based statistic method by adjusting coaviors, ritualistic behaviors, and restricted behaviors. The decrease in FC between left superior occipital lobe and right angular and between left insula and left caudate might contribute to these improvements. Our findings improve our understanding of the pathogenesis of RRBIs and suggest potential intervention targets to improve prognosis in adulthood.

Pre-authorized concealed opioid reductions may minimize expectations such as fear of increased pain due to the reduction of opioids and, prolong analgesic benefits in experimental settings. We recently observed that patients and clinicians are open to concealed opioid tapering. However, little is known about the "why" behind their attitudes. Based on this lack of data, we analyzed qualitative responses to survey questions on patients' and clinicians' acceptance of a concealed opioid reduction for chronic pain. Seventy-four patients with a history of high dose opioid therapy and 49 clinicians completed a web-based questionnaire with open-ended questions examining responses to two hypothetical clinical trials comparing a concealed opioid reduction pre-authorized by patients vs. standard tapering. We used content analysis based on qualitative descriptive methodology to analyze comments from the patients and clinicians. Five themes were identified informed consent; anxiety; safety; support; and ignorance is bliss, or not. These themes highlight the overall positive attitudes toward concealed opioid tapers. Our findings reinforce the importance of patient-centered care and are expected to inform the design of clinical trials from both the patient and clinician perspective. This qualitative study presents patients' and clinicians' attitudes toward hypothetical scenarios for a trial of pre-authorized reduction of opioids. The findings indicate positive attitudes and the relevance of engaging patients with effective decision-making processes.Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a severely disabling chronic lung disease characterized by persistent airway inflammation, which leads to limited expiratory airflow that deteriorates over time. Isorhamnetin (Iso) is one of the most important active components in the fruit of Hippophae rhamnoides L. and leaves of Ginkgo biloba L, which is widely used in many pulmonary disease studies because of its anti-inflammatory effects. Here, we investigated the pharmacological action of Iso in CS-induced airway inflammation and dissected the anti-inflammation mechanisms of Iso in COPD mice. A mouse model of COPD was established by exposure to cigarette smoke (CS) and intratracheal inhalation of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Our results illustrated that Iso treatment significantly reduced leukocyte recruitment and excessive secretion of interleukin-6 (IL-6), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and regulated upon activation, normal T-cell expressed and secreted (RANTES) in BALF of CS-induced COPD mice ir COPD.Bone homeostasis only exists when the physical function of osteoblast and osteoclast stays in the balance between bone formation and resorption. Bone resorption occurs when the two processes are uncoupled, shifting the balance in favour of bone resorption. Excessive activation of osteoclasts leads to a range of osteolytic bone diseases including osteoporosis, aseptic prosthesis loosening, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis. Receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL) and its downstream signaling pathways are recognized as key mediators that drive the formation and activation of osteoclastic function. Hence, osteoclast formation and/or its function remain as dominant targets for research and development of agents reaching the treatment towards osteolytic diseases. Chrysin (CHR) is a flavonoid with a wide range of anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects. However, its effect on osteoclasts remains unknown. In this study, we found the effects of CHR on inhibiting osteoclast differentiation which were assessed in terms of the number and size of TRAcP positive multinucleated osteoclasts (OCs). Further, the inhibitory effects of CHR on bone resorption and osteoclast fusion of pre-OC were assessed by hydroxyapatite resorption pit assay and F-actin belts staining; respectively. Western blotting analysis of RANKL-induced signaling pathways and immunofluorescence analysis for p65 nuclear translocation in response to RANKL-induced osteoclasts were used to analyze the mechanism of action of CHR affecting osteoclasts. Lastly, the murine calvarial osteolysis model revealed that CHR could protect against particle-induced bone destruction in vivo. Collectively, our data strongly suggested that CHR with its promising anti-tumor effects would also be a potential therapeutic agent for osteolytic diseases.Introduction Performing pharmacist interventions (PIs) during the medication review helps to improve the quality of care. The acceptance by the physician of these PIs is a good indicator of the quality of this clinical pharmacy activity. The objective of this study was to determine, in the Amiens-Picardie teaching hospital (France), factors of acceptance in a variable environment of activity (central pharmacy, in the care units, computer assisted). Methods All PIs transcribed by pharmacists on the Act-IP© site between November 2018 and April 2019 were analyzed using a complementary search in patient records. The environment, type, and clinical impact on patient health of each PI was collected. Linear mixed-effects models with a random pharmacist intercept were used to investigate the relationship between PI modalities and their chance of being accepted. Results A total of 3,100 PIs were traced, of which 2,930 had been followed over time. Of these, 2,930 PIs, 1,504 (51.3%) were performed by a postgraduate phar of high-risk interventions as key points of medication review to improve rate of pharmacist interventions accepted by physician.Preeclampsia (PE), a pregnancy-specific syndrome with the major molecular determinants of placenta-borne oxidative stress and consequently impaired nitric oxide (NO) generation, has been considered to be one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity as well as mortality and preterm delivery worldwide. Several medical conditions have been found to be associated with increased PE risk, however, the treatment of PE remains unclear. Here, we report that Tianma Gouteng Decoction (TGD), which is used clinically for hypertension treatment, regulates oxidative stress and NO production in human extravillous trophoblast-derived TEV-1 cells. In human preeclamptic placental explants, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were elevated and NO production was inhibited, while TGD treatment at different periods effectively down-regulated the H2O2-induced ROS levels and significantly up-regulated the H2O2-suppressed NO production in human TEV-1 cells. Mechanistically, TGD enhanced the activity of total nitric oxide synthase (TNOS), which catalyze L-arginine oxidation into NO, and simultaneously, TGD promoted the expression of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), two isoforms of nitric oxide synthetases (NOS) in human placenta, resulting in the increased NO generation.
