Among all the van der Waals heterostructures, the Sn/SiC heterostructure exhibits the lowest tensile strength and tensile strain. Furthermore, it has been found that zigzag directional loading could endure more tensile strain before fracture. Besides, it has been disclosed that though the rule of mixtures may accurately reproduce the Young's modulus of these heterostructures, it has limitations to predict the tensile strength. Fracture analysis suggests that for the Sn/hBN heterostructure the fracture initiates from the stanene layer while for the Sn/Gr and Sn/SiC heterostructures the fracture initiates from the Gr and SiC layer, respectively, for both armchair and zigzag directional loading. Overall, this study would aid in the design and efficient operation of Sn/Gr, Sn/hBN, and Sn/SiC heterostructures when subjected to mechanical force.Preliminary evidence shows the potential role of probiotics in ameliorating multiple sclerosis (MS); however, the effects of probiotics on MS remain unclear. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of probiotics on multiple sclerosis by systematically reviewing the preclinical trials (animal trials) and performing meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane central of randomized clinical trials, EMBASE, Clinical Trials, and a search engine Google Scholar were systematically searched and manually screened updated to November 2020, resulting in eligible 3 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and 22 preclinical studies. Meta-analysis of RCTs enrolling 173 patients with MS receiving probiotics revealed significant beneficial effects of probiotic supplementation on mental health (expanded disability status scale scores standardized mean difference [SMD] = -1.22; I2 = 92%; 95% CI, -2.40 to -0.03, P = 0.04; Beck depression inventory total scores SMD = -1.58; I2 = 94%; 95% CI, -3.03 to -0.12; P = 0.03; general health questionnaire scores SMD = -0.71; I2 = 0%; 95% CI, -1.02 to -0.40; P less then 0.00001; depression anxiety and stress scale scores SMD = -0.72; I2 = 0%; 95% CI, -1.12 to -0.33; P = 0.0003), with very low certainty of evidence. In addition, probiotic intake markedly improved insulin resistance and inflammatory and oxidative stress markers. Preclinical studies have shown that probiotic consumption reduces the incidence and severity of MS, delays MS progression (15 studies), and improves motor impairment (3 studies) with favorable alterations of immune and inflammatory markers (20 studies) and intestinal microbiome compositions (4 studies) in MS. These results indicated that probiotics may have beneficial effects on the prevention and treatment of multiple sclerosis.Global switching on-the-fly trajectory surface hopping molecular dynamics simulation was performed on the accurate TD-B3LYP/6-31G* potential energy surfaces for E-to-Z and Z-to-E photoisomerization of dMe-OMe-NAIP up to S1(ππ*) excitation. The present TD(DFT) simulation provides accurate calculation for conical intersections between the first-excited and ground states. Thus, simulated quantum yield and lifetime of 0.23 and 620 fs (0.15 and 600 fs) for E-to-Z (Z-to-E) isomerization are in good (relatively good) agreement with experimental observation of 0.25 and 480 fs (0.24 and 430 fs), respectively. Simulated results reveal that photoisomerization pathways are initially uphill to conical intersection zones on the S1 potential energy surface and then downhill to product zones. Three types of representative conical intersections are found for determining photoisomerization mechanisms one is the rotation type responsible for reactive isomerization and the other two are close to E and Z configurations, respectively, only for nonreactive isomerization. The present conclusions can be held in general for similar large NAIP systems of photoinduced isomerization based on E and Z configurations.Morphological tuning or additional cation doping is one of the potential and simple methods to enhance the photocatalytic properties of ceria, in which rare-earth element doped ceria nanorods (CeO2-RE NRs) are expected to be a promising photocatalyst with high activity. But the optimal doping conditions, including the variety and concentration of RE elements are ambiguous, and the contribution of doped RE ions to the enhancement of photocatalytic activity needs to be further studied. In this work, we doped La, Y and Sm with a wide range of 0%-30% into CeO2 NRs, and investigated the phase, morphology, band gap, oxygen vacancy concentration, PL spectra and photocatalytic activity variation under different doping conditions. All synthesized CeO2-RE NRs possessed a good nanorod morphology except the 15 and 30% Y-doped samples. this website The energy band gaps of the synthesized samples changed slightly; the 10% CeO2-RE NRs with the narrowest band gaps possessed the higher photocatalytic performance. The most outstanding photocatalyst was found to be the 10% Y-doped CeO2 NRs with a methylene blue photodegradation ratio of 85.59% and rate constant of 0.0134 min-1, which is particularly associated with a significant higher oxygen vacancy concentration and obviously lower recombination rate of photogenerated e-/h+ pairs. The doped RE ions and the promotion of oxygen vacancy generation impede the recombination of photogenerated carriers, which is proposed as the main reason to enhance the photocatalytic property of CeO2.

This study investigates the efficacy of electroencephalography (EEG) centered around the user's ears (ear-EEG) for a speech-imagery-based brain-computer interface (BCI) system.

A wearable ear-EEG acquisition tool was developed and its performance was directly compared to that of a conventional 32-channel scalp-EEG setup in a multi-class speech imagery classification task. Riemannian tangent space projections of EEG covariance matrices were used as input features to a multi-layer extreme learning machine classifier. Ten subjects participated in an experiment consisting of six sessions spanning three days. The experiment involves imagining four speech commands ('Left,' 'Right,' 'Forward,' and 'Go back') and staying in a rest condition.

The classification accuracy of our system is significantly above the chance level (20%). The classification result averaged across all ten subjects is 38.2% and 43.1% with a maximum (max) of 43.8% and 55.0% for ear-EEG and scalp-EEG, respectively. According to an analysis of variance, seven out of ten subjects show no significant difference between the performance of ear-EEG and scalp-EEG.
