These resources included 23 journal articles, eight websites, and one book.. The data gathered showed that while abortions have many potential complications even when performed under regulated conditions, taking away the choice of those with a uterus is also not without consequence. The economic, familial, and societal implications should be considered moving forward as safety nets will need to be implemented for people with uterus and children involved.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the three most common chronic diseases worldwide. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN) among patients with diabetes.

This cross-sectional study was carried out on DM patients who visited King Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAUH) between August 2021 and February 2022. We used the Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI) questionnaire to determine if the patients had DN. In addition, we used the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) to assess the level of physical activity (PA) in these DM patients.

A total of 336 patients consented to participate in the study. We found a DN prevalence of 23.8% amongst DM patients treated at the KAUH. In addition, the prevalence of DN amongst T1DM and T2DM patients was found to be 16% and 24.4%, respectively. Furthermore, we found that 65% of DM patients developed complications, with a significant correlation observed between the duration of DM and the development of complications. However, patient age and sex were non-statistically significantly correlated with the development of complications. Analysis of the GPAQ showed that among the 249 patients who completed the questionnaire, none had a high physical activity level, while 4% and 96% had moderate and low physical activity levels, respectively. No association was found between physical activity and patients' age, sex, type of DM, duration of DM, and development of complications.

DN prevalence amongst DM patients treated at KAUH was 23.8%. The duration of diabetes was found to be a risk factor for DN. However, patient age and sex were non-statistically significantly associated with DN.

National Health Service (NHS) England has highlighted the importance of improving patient flow, and the many benefits to both staff and patients, including "improved clinical outcome and experience of patients"; "eliminating waits and delays"; "saving time and effort by avoiding duplication of work"; "saving money"; and "improving the reputation of the NHS". Limited access to computerised tomography (CT) imaging for surgical patients can disrupt patient flow through delayed diagnosis, management, and discharge. The aims of this quality improvement project were to assess the effect of a dedicated Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) radiologist on access to CT scanning and its impact on patient flow. The measured outcomes were time from admission to CT scanning, and length of admission. Method In June 2020, a radiology registrar was allocated to the SAU to vet ahours. In 2020, 45% of patients were discharged within four hours following a CT scan. More than half of the patients (57.5%) were discharged within 12 hours. Conclusion The allocation of a radiologist in the SAU led to both a reduction in time to perform CT scans and an increased number of patients being discharged within 12 hours. These results suggest that early access to imaging improves patient flow. Further research will help to establish whether the allocation of a radiologist in the SAU is a beneficial and cost-effective method of improving patient flow, and whether this may help reduce the current pressure on NHS services.Since the first pacemaker was implanted, nearly 60 years have passed. Since then, pacemaker technology has made major advancements that have increased both its safety and effectiveness in treating people with bradyarrhythmias. The repeated stimulation of cells in specialized "pacemaker" regions of the mammalian heart and the transmission of stimulus via the ventricles serve as evidence that the electrical function of the mammalian heart is necessary for a regular mechanical (pump) role. The development of action potentials in individual cardiac cells is linked to myocardial electrical activity and the heart's regular cooperative electrical functioning. A container or pulse initiator that houses the battery and electronics, as well as lines that connect to the myocardium to deliver a depolarizing pulse and detect intrinsic cardiac stimulation, are all parts of a pacemaker. Defibrillators could be used with artificial hearts that have electrical pacemakers integrated into them in order to treat arrhythmia, heart failure, and cardiac arrest. Modern pacemakers have units for supporting patients with other disorders like "heart failure," which happens when the heart does not pump as forcefully as it should. While many pacemakers are effective in treating different types of arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), they also have units for treating them.In many parts of the world, particularly in impoverished nations like Ethiopia, organophosphate compounds operate as suicide agents, are frequently employed as pesticides, and are strong inhibitors of the acetylcholinesterase enzyme. A 21-year-old Ethiopian female, a university student, was admitted to an emergency department on June 22, 2022, with a two-hour history of nausea and elevated secretions of salivation via the mouth. (S)-2-Hydroxysuccinic acid price She had no previous history of psychiatric or neurological disorders, but three days before her admission, she quarreled with her boyfriend, became extremely depressed, and decided to commit suicide. She had a two-hour history of nausea and intermittent vomiting and a one-hour history of persistent vomiting, increased salivation secretions through the mouth, chills, progressive sweating, difficulty breathing, and dizziness. Upon admission, her neurological examination in the emergency department revealed a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 9/15. On admission, she was placed on two liters per minute of intranasal oxygen via the nasal cannula. On the same day, she was given atropine 0.15 mg intravenously, and the dose was doubled every 10 minutes until atropinization was achieved, and a bolus dose of 500ml of 0.9% of normal saline was initiated immediately. We report a rare case of an incidental pancreatic lesion that proved to be Castleman disease in a peripancreatic lymph node, which mimicked a high-grade pancreatic neuroendocrine tumour (PNET) based on findings on positron emission tomography (PET). The disease was discovered as an incidental finding on CT imaging of the abdomen and was investigated and managed as PNET. Surgical resection was performed with distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy, however, histology revealed the lesion was a lymph node affected by Castleman disease. Often termed the great mimic, Castleman disease is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder that is often mistaken for other primary lesions of the organ due to its location and should be considered a differential of fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-avid PET lesions on imaging. Background Although considerable research on physician fellowship training program websites has demonstrated critical deficiencies in accessibility and content, there is no published study regarding the website content of physician assistant/associate (PA) and nurse practitioner (NP) orthopedic surgery postgraduate residency/fellowship programs in the United States. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a web-based content analysis to assess the available information on program websites and identify the potential areas for improvement. Methods The methodology for this study was replicated from prior research on graduate medical education (GME) websites. Twenty-two PA and joint PA/NP orthopedic surgery postgraduate residency/fellowship training program websites were assessed between August and September 2022. The criteria comprised 17 items related to postgraduate education and recruitment content. All program websites were evaluated for pertinent content relevant to prospective applicants applying to orthopedctive applicants than non-accredited programs. Conclusion This is the first study to provide a detailed analysis of PA and joint PA/NP postgraduate orthopedic surgery residency/fellowship program websites. Not surprisingly, there is a wide variation in the available content on these websites. Study results provide further evidence to support the urgent need to improve program website content for prospective applicants.A paradoxical reaction, in patients with tuberculous meningitis, is described as either worsening of pre-existing tuberculous lesions or the appearance of new tuberculous lesions after initial improvement with anti-tuberculosis treatment. The condition is often difficult to predict. When severe, it may also result in considerable neurological morbidity and even death. We aim to report such a rare case of severe paradoxical response in a young female with tuberculous meningitis. An 18-year-old female developed severe headache, vomiting, altered sensorium, decreased vision, and paraparesis. She was on anti-tuberculosis treatment (ATT) for tuberculous meningitis for the past two months. Radiological findings revealed tuberculomas in the left cerebral and cerebellar hemispheres, adhesive arachnoiditis in the cervical spine, and moderate communicating hydrocephalus. Visual evoked potential tests provided electrophysiological evidence of optic neuropathy in the left eye. The appearance of new (tuberculoma and adhesive arachnoiditis in the cervical spine), as well as aggravation of pre-existing tuberculous lesions (worsened hydrocephalus and worsened clinical features), were evident in the patient, suggestive of severe paradoxical response (with HIV negative serology). The patient was treated with corticosteroids, and antibiotics, and continued the ATT programme in a conservative manner. Nonetheless, as the patient had severe CNS manifestations, severe disabilities (poor vision, paraparesis, or quadriparesis) and fatalities were inevitable. Notwithstanding, it is crucial to recognize the paradoxical manifestations of tuberculous meningitis to avoid misleading diagnoses and unwarranted management strategies.A severe medical emergency that poses a life-threatening risk is envenomation from a snake bite. Among the several snake families, krait bites are known to result in neurological symptoms, including ptosis, headache, and sweating. A 12-year-old adolescent boy who had been bitten by a krait appeared in this instance. The patient showed neurological symptoms after receiving anti-snake venom (ASV). He had three rounds of ASV and made a full recovery. To the best of our knowledge, there have not yet been any reports of this kind of delayed neurological signs after a krait bite, despite getting ASV in the adolescent population.
