The combination of this data with transfer parameter data for root uptake of radionuclides by food crops in tropical environments (this issue) aimed to compare all data with those in TRS 472 recommended for use in dose assessment models. Therefore, a databank has been started based on an intensive literature research on published concentration ratio (CR) data in selected arid environments. After quality check data have been formatted to comply with TRS 472 and with the tropical data base criteria. Due to the scarcity of published information and the high uncertainty of the estimated mean values for individual plant and soil groups in arid environments no statistically relevant conclusions could be drawn, although some differences were notable. Nevertheless, despite its limitations and high uncertainties, this work presents the first reported comprehensive data collation on CR soil-plant values in arid environments.Crosstalk between bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and macrophages plays vital role in bone healing. By investigating the mechanism of collagen membrane-guided bone regeneration, we found compact structure and rapid membrane degradation compromised the duration of M2 macrophages influx, which restricts the recruitment of BMSCs that is essential for bone healing. To tackle this issue, a biodegrading elastomeric compound consisting of poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) and polycaprolactone (PCL) was fabricated into hierarchically porous membrane. The rational design of 3D microstructure enabled sufficient polydopamine (PDA) coating. Without any addition of growth factors, the 3D-patterned PDA membrane enables early and durable influx of M2 macrophages, which in turn promotes BMSCs recruitment and osteogenic differentiation. Furthermore, 4D-morphing of the membrane fully regenerates the dome shaped calvarial bone as well as arc-shape bone in peri-implant alveolar defect without filling xenogenous substitute. This study revealed the superiority of 3D printed microstructures in immunomodulatory materials. The availability of 4D-morphing for PGS/PCL construct expanded their advantages in reconstructing craniofacial bone. The development of metal-based anticancer drugs is of considerable interest and significance in inorganic medicine. In contrast to noble metal-based small molecules, the anticancer property of earth abundant metal-based small molecules is much less explored which are usually essential trace element for the human body. Among earth abundant metals, chromium (Cr) in the +3 valent is an essential trace element for the human body to low down the blood lipids and maintain the blood sugar; on the other hand, Cr(VI) are known to be highly toxic due to their oxidation power. To design stable high-valent Cr small molecules to construct Cr(high-valent)-Cr(III) in-situ transition system to achieve low-toxic and highly efficient anti-cancer therapy is a very desirable approach. Herein we report the Cr(V)-Cr(III) in-situ transition system promotes ROS generation to achieve efficient cancer therapy in vivo and in vitro. To the best of our knowledge, these Cr-based small molecules are the first stable Cr(V) compounds with potent anticancer efficacy, especially towards malignant cancers. The outbreak of infectious diseases such as COVID-19 causes an urgent need for abundant personal protective equipment (PPE) which leads to a huge shortage of raw materials. Additionally, the inappropriate disposal and sterilization of PPE may result in a high risk of cross-contamination. Therefore, the exploration of antimicrobial materials possessing both microbe interception and self-decontamination effects to develop reusable and easy-to-sterilize PPE is of great importance. Herein, an aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-active luminogen-loaded nanofibrous membrane (TTVB@NM) sharing sunlight-triggered photodynamic/photothermal anti-pathogen functions are prepared using the electrospinning technique. Thanks to its porous nanostructure, TTVB@NM shows excellent interception effects toward ultrafine particles and pathogenic aerosols. Benefiting from the superior photophysical properties of the AIE-active dopants, TTVB@NM exhibits integrated properties of wide absorption in visible light range, efficient ROS generation, and moderate photothermal conversion performance. A series of antimicrobial evaluations reveal that TTVB@NM could effectively inactivate pathogenic aerosols containing bacteria (inhibition rate >99%), fungi (~88%), and viruses (>99%) within only 10 min sunlight irradiation. This study represents a new strategy to construct reusable and easy-to-sterilize hybrid materials for potential bioprotective applications. The mechanisms of adaptive resistance to genetic-based targeted therapies of solid malignancies have been the subject of intense research. These studies hold great promise for finding co-targetable hub/pathways which in turn would control the downstream non-genetic mechanisms of adaptive resistance. Many such mechanisms have been described in the paradigmatic BRAF-mutated melanoma model of adaptive response to BRAF inhibition. Currently, a major challenge for these mechanistic studies is to confirm in vivo, at the single-cell proteomic level, the existence of dependencies between the co-targeted hub/pathways and their downstream effectors. Moreover, the drug-induced in vivo modulation of these dependencies needs to be demonstrated. Here, we implement such single-cell-based in vivo expression dependency quantification using immunohistochemistry (IHC)-based analyses of sequential biopsies in two xenograft models. These mimic phase 2 and 3 trials in our own therapeutic strategy to prevent the adaptive response to BRAF inhibition. In this mechanistic model, the dependencies between the targeted Li2CO3-inducible hub HuR and the resistance effectors are more likely time-shifted and transient since the minority of HuRLow cells, which act as a reservoir of adaptive plasticity, switch to a HuRHigh state as they paradoxically proliferate under BRAF inhibition. Nevertheless, we show that a copula/kernel density estimator (KDE)-based quantification of mutual information (MI) efficiently captures, at the individual level, the dependencies between HuR and two relevant resistance markers pERK and EGFR, and outperforms classic expression correlation coefficients. Ultimately, the validation of MI as a predictive IHC-based metric of response to our therapeutic strategy will be carried in clinical trials. Thanks to their unique optical and physicochemical properties, gold nanoparticles have gained increased interest as radiosensitizing, photothermal therapy and optical imaging agents to enhance the effectiveness of cancer detection and therapy. Furthermore, their ability to carry multiple medically relevant radionuclides broadens their use to nuclear medicine SPECT and PET imaging as well as targeted radionuclide therapy. In this review, we discuss the radiolabeling process of gold nanoparticles and their use in (multimodal) nuclear medicine imaging to better understand their specific distribution, uptake and retention in different in vivo cancer models. In addition, radiolabeled gold nanoparticles enable image-guided therapy is reviewed as well as the enhancement of targeted radionuclide therapy and nanobrachytherapy through an increased dose deposition and radiosensitization, as demonstrated by multiple Monte Carlo studies and experimental in vitro and in vivo studies.Floating constructed wetlands (FCWs) have attained tremendous popularity for water purification purposes. However, FCW functions establishment in nutrients removal from carbon-limited wastewater, especially in cold weather, is still a challenge. Here, two drinking water treatment residual (DWTR) based biocarriers (B-I DWTR cakes, B-II DWTR cakes combined with woodchips) have been augmented into FCW to enhance the nutrients (N and P) removal performance. Compared to the traditional FCW, the intensified FCWs simultaneously achieved higher N and P removal efficiencies, with average pollutants removal of 52.16 ± 11.51% for TN and 92.72 ± 1.61% for TP in FCW-I and 57.65 ± 9.43% for TN and 92.17 ± 2.55% for TP in FCW-II, respectively, while their removal in FCW-III of 27.74 ± 7.11% for TN and 17.91 ± 9.27% for TP. B-II performed best in overcoming the negative influence of low temperature in nutrients removal. Mass balance budget indicated that most P was enriched in DWTR based biocarriers. Thus it is feasible to recycle and recover P from the surface water. Furthermore, P in the sediment can be changed from active P to stable P, mitigating the internal P release risk. This study can help to expand the understanding of the intensified FCWs and promote the practical application of FCWs.A novel alkylpolyglycoside (APG)-modified MnFe2O4 nanocomposite (APG@MnFe2O4) enriched with oxygen vacancies (VOs) was developed via co-precipitation and characterized as a peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activator to degrade 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) as the model contaminant. The APG effectively promoted the in situ formation of VOs on MnFe2O4 and subsequently enhanced the production of singlet oxygen (1O2). Furthermore, the APG@MnFe2O4 initialized an even more efficient non-radical pathway and dominated the degradation of 2,4-DCP. The constructed APG@MnFe2O4 exhibited a much higher reaction rate constant (0.0522) by ~12.73 times of that of the bare MnFe2O4 (0.0041). The degradation efficiency of 2,4-DCP in the APG@MnFe2O4/PMS system approached 93% within 90 min, a rate significantly higher than that in the MnFe2O4/PMS system (32%) given the same condition. The reasonable catalytic mechanism can be attributed to the Fe/Mn/VOs species. The APG@MnFe2O4 also exhibits universally high removal activity for various pollutants and excellent cyclic stability. Thus, the APG@MnFe2O4 is a promising PMS activator, and its utilization offers a useful strategy for developing VOs-enriched MnFe2O4 catalysts as a means of eliminating organic pollutants from wastewater.Disposal of the high volume of produced water (PW) is a big challenge to the oil and gas industry. High cost of conventional treatment facilities, increasing energy prices and environmental concern had focused governments and the industry itself on more efficient treatment methods. Bioelectrochemical system (BES) has attracted the attention of researchers because it represents a sustainable way to treat wastewater. This is the first review that summarizes the progress done in PW-fed BESs with a critical analysis of the parameters that influence their performances. Inoculum, temperature, hydraulic retention time, external resistance, and the use of real or synthetic produced water were found to be deeply related to the performance of BES. ML324 datasheet Microbial fuel cells are the most analyzed BES in this field followed by different types of microbial desalination cells. High concentration of sulfates in PW suggests that most of hydrocarbons are removed mainly by using sulfates as terminal electron acceptor (TEA), but other TEAs such as nitrate or metals can also be employed. The use of real PW as feed in experiments is highly recommended because biofilms when using synthetic PW are not the same. This review is believed to be helpful in guiding the research directions on the use of BES for PW treatment, and to speed up the practical application of BES technology in oil and gas industry.
