Magnetically soft [Ti(6)/FeNi(50)]6/Ti(6)/Cu(500)/Ti(6)/[FeNi(50)/Ti(6)]6 nanostructured multilayered elements were deposited by rf-sputtering technique in the shape of elongated stripes. The easy magnetization axis was oriented along the short size of the stripe using deposition in the external magnetic field. Such configuration is important for the development of small magnetic field sensors employing giant magnetoimpedance effect (GMI) for different applications. Microwave absorption of electromagnetic radiation was experimentally and theoretically studied in order to provide an as complete as possible high frequency characterization. The conductor-backed coplanar line was used for microwave properties investigation. The medialization for the precession of the magnetization vector in the uniformly magnetized GMI element was done on the basis of the Landau-Lifshitz equation with a dissipative Bloch-Bloembergen term. We applied the method of the complex amplitude for the analysis of the rotation of the ferromagnetic GMI element in the external magnetic field. The calculated and experimental dependences for the amplitudes of the imaginary part of the magnetic susceptibility tensor x-component and magnetoabsorption related to different angles show a good agreement. The cyclic oxidation behaviors of the as-cast Ti-1100-xNb (x = 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0) alloys exposed at 650 °C for up to 100 h were systematically investigated. The aim of this work is to explore the in-depth oxidation mechanism by using the oxidation kinetics and the structure of the oxide products. The oxidation kinetics were determined by thermogravimetrically, and the microstructure and composition of the oxidation scale were studied by using XRD and SEM. The results demonstrate that Nb can significantly improve the oxidation resistance. However, the average weight gains of the alloys decrease firstly and then increase with the increase of Nb content. The oxidation kinetics obeys a parabolic model. The Ti-1100-1.0Nb alloy has the lowest kp value, which is 5.7 10-13 g2cm-4s-1. The surface oxidation products are mainly composed of massive or acicular rutile-TiO2, TixO (x = 3, 6), NbO2 and Al2O3. Besides, Al2(MoO4)3 oxide is also presented on the oxidation surface of the Ti-1100-1.5Nb alloys. Ti-1100-1.0Nb alloy shows the best oxidation resistance property revealed by combining weight gains and EDS-SEM element content profiles analysis. The interaction of Nb, O, Ti, and other elements retarded the diffusion of O atoms into the alloys, which improves the oxidation resistance. The design and development of thermal insulation materials is very important for the treatment of offshore oil pipelines. Understanding thermal energy transport in thermal insulation materials and predicting their thermal conductivities have important theoretical and practical value for the design of thermal insulation materials. In this work, lightweight and thermally insulated (LWTI) composites with the desired mechanical strength for offshore oil pipelines applications were prepared using epoxy resin (EP) as the matrix and hollow glass microspheres (HGMs) as the filler. The morphology, density, and mechanical properties of HGM/EP LWTI composites were studied first. The flexural strength and the flexural modulus of HGM/EP LWTI composites could still be as high as 22.34 ± 2.75 Mpa and 1.34 ± 0.03 GPa, respectively, while the density was only 0.591 g/cm3. The relationship between the effective thermal conductivity of HGM/EP LWTI composites and material parameters (sizes and contents together) has been studied systematically. A three-phase prediction model was built using the self-consistent approximation method to predict the effective thermal conductivity of HGM/EP LWTI composites, and the resin matrix, the wall thickness, the HGM particle size, and other parameters (such as air) were fully considered during the derivation of this three-phase thermal conductivity model. Finally, the insulation mechanism of HGM/EP LWTI composites was systematically analyzed. The thermal conductivities of HGM/EP LWTI composites with different diameters and HGM contents calculated by the three-phase prediction model agreed well with the experimental test results, with a minimum error of only 0.69%. Thus, this three-phase thermal conductivity model can be used to theoretically simulate the thermal conductivity of epoxy resin-based LWTI composites and can be the theoretical basis for the design and prediction of the thermal conductivity of other similar hollow spheres filled materials.Occupational exposure limits for respirable coal dust are based on exposure during working hours, but coal miners may experience additional community-based exposures during nonworking hours. We analyzed Australia National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) data for the years 2008-2018 to estimate air pollutants (metals, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter ≤ 10 micrometers (PM10) and ≤2.5 micrometers (PM2.5)) originating from coal mines. PM10 levels from community-based air monitors in Queensland and New South Wales were also compared between mining and nonmining communities. Results indicated that tons of coal mined increased over the study period, and that levels of particulate matter, metals, and nitrogen oxides increased significantly over time as well. Coal mines accounted for 42.1% of national PM10 air emissions from NPI sites. PM2.5 from coal mines accounted for 19.5% of the national total, metals for 12.1%, and nitrogen oxides for 10.1%. Coal mining occurred in 57 different post codes; the 20 coal-mining post codes with the highest PM10 emissions were home to 160,037 people. Emissions of all studied pollutants were significantly higher from coal mining sites than from other types of NPI sites. Results from community-based air monitoring stations indicated significantly higher population PM10 exposure in coal mining communities than in nonmining communities. The health of the public at large is impacted by coal mining, but to the extent that miners also live near coal mining operations, their total exposure is underestimated by consideration of exposure only during working hours.INTRODUCTION Analysis of quality of life (QOL) outcomes is an important aspect of lymphedema treatment since this disease can substantially impact QOL in affected individuals. There are a growing number of studies reporting patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) for patients with lymphedema. The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review of outcomes and utilization of PROMs following surgical treatment of lymphedema. METHODS A literature search of four databases was performed up to and including March, 2019. Studies included reported on QOL outcomes after physiologic procedures, defined as either lymphovenous bypass (LVB) or vascularized lymph node transplant (VLNT), to treat upper and/or lower extremity primary or secondary lymphedema. RESULTS In total, 850 studies were screened-of which, 32 studies were included in this review. Lymphovenous bypass was the surgical intervention in 16 studies, VLNT in 11 studies, and both in 5 studies. Of the 32 total studies, 16 used validated survey tools. The most commonly used PROM was the lymph quality of life measure for limb lymphedema (LYMQOL) (12 studies). In the remaining four studies, the upper limb lymphedema 27 scale (ULL27), the short form 36 questionnaire (SF-36), the lymphedema functioning, disability and health questionnaire (Lymph-ICF), and lymphedema life impact scale (LLIS) were each used once. QOL improvement following surgical treatment was noted in all studies. CONCLUSIONS Physiologic surgical treatment of lymphedema results in improved QOL outcomes in most patients. The use of validated PROM tools is increasing but there is no current consensus on use. Future research to evaluate the psychometric properties of PROMs in lymphedema is needed to guide the development and use of lymphedema-specific tools. The aim of our study was to test the effectiveness of a simple semen cryopreservation procedure, developed for cultivated salmonid, on the wild salmonid of the Mediterranean area and to evaluate the effect of different thawing rates and sperm-to-egg ratios. The semen of five individual males was diluted into a final extender concentration of 0.15 M glucose and 7.5% methanol and loaded into 0.25 mL plastic straws, and a final sperm concentration of 3.0 × 109 sperm/mL was obtained. After equilibration, the straws were frozen by exposure to liquid nitrogen vapor at 3 cm above the liquid nitrogen level for 5 min. The semen was thawed at 40 °C/5 s or 10 °C/30 s. The sperm cryosurvival was evaluated by examining in vitro the sperm motility parameters using the CASA system, followed by fertilization trials in vivo, using three different sperm-to-egg ratios 6 × 105, 4.5 × 105 and 3 × 1051. The applied cryopreservation procedure resulted in remarkably high (85.6%) post-thaw sperm total motility, when the semen was thawed at 40 °C/5 s, whilst the highest fertilization rate (53.1%) was recorded for a sperm-to-egg ratio of 4.5 × 1051. According to these outcomes, the cryopreservation procedure that was tested turned out to be effective for the wild population of Mediterranean brown trout and practical for the creation of the first European semen cryobank foreseen as part of our "LIFE" Nat.Sal.Mo. project.MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small non-coding RNAs, molecules of 21 to 25 nucleotides in length, that regulate gene expression by binding to their target mRNA and play a significant role in animal development. The expression and role of miRNAs in regulating sheep estrus, however, remain elusive. Selleck MSAB Transcriptome analysis is helpful to understand the biological roles of miRNAs in the pituitary gland of sheep. A sheep's pituitary gland has a significant difference between estrus and anestrus states. Here, we investigate the expression profiles of sheep anterior pituitary microRNAs (miRNAs) in two states, estrus and anestrus, using Illumina HiSeq-technology. This study identified a total of 199 miRNAs and 25 differentially expressed miRNAs in the estrus and anestrus pituitary gland in sheep. Reverse transcription quantitative-PCR (RT-qPCR) analysis shows six differentially (p less then 0.05) expressed miRNAs, that are miR-143, miR-199a, miR-181a, miR-200a, miR-218, and miR-221 in both estrus and anestrus states. miRNAs containing estrus-related terms and pathways regulation are enriched using enrichment analysis from gene ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG). Moreover, we also envisioned a miRNA-mRNA interaction network to understand the function of miRNAs involved in the pituitary gland regulatory network. In conclusion, miRNA expression profiles in sheep pituitary gland in the anestrus and estrus deliver a theoretical basis for the study of pituitary gland biology in sheep.Exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells are extracellular vesicles released to facilitate cell communication and function. Recently, polylactic acid (PLA), calcium silicates (CaSi), and dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD) have been used to produce bioresorbable functional mineral-doped porous scaffolds-through thermally induced phase separation technique, as materials for bone regeneration. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of mineral-doped PLA-based porous scaffolds enriched with exosome vesicles (EVs) on osteogenic commitment of human adipose mesenchymal stem cells (hAD-MSCs). Two different mineral-doped scaffolds were produced PLA-10CaSi-10DCPD and PLA-5CaSi-5DCPD. Scaffolds surface micromorphology was investigated by ESEM-EDX before and after 28 days immersion in simulated body fluid (HBSS). Exosomes were deposited on the surface of the scaffolds and the effect of exosome-enriched scaffolds on osteogenic commitment of hAD-MSCs cultured in proximity of the scaffolds has been evaluated by real time PCR.
