The Band Toto Asia
Toto was expanding its production facilities abroad and was doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. The company saw North America as a growth market for Washlet's bidets and toilets, in contrast to its "base" markets of Japan and China.
Dhaniram Toto recorded Toto words so that the next generation could read them. However, many words were being replaced by foreign words, such as dui, which is Bengali for verandah.
Origins

You might expect a band with a name such as Asia to be a prog rock group however it's actually a relatively straightforward rock group. The group started out as a group and released two albums - 1979's self-titled debut and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The band has a varied musical background, but their biggest success came in 1982 when they released Toto IV.
The album was a huge blockbuster, but not without its share of problems. Record companies put the band on spot with the ultimatum "give us an album that is a success or we'll take you off the market" and the pressure was on them to give it. The album concludes with Great Expectations, a song that mixes folk with distorted AOR and sounds totally wrong, but is incredibly effective.
After Toto IV, the band's fortunes began to decline. David Hungate left the band to pursue a solo career. The band had a variety of drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the group due to drug charges. The band continued with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.
Toto released Isolation despite the turmoil. It wasn't as popular as IV. The band was able to release an album that was chart-topping, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked the conclusion of the original Toto lineup and was also the first album featuring the new singer, Simon Phillips.

Line-up
The album's third, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet style of previous albums and was a more powerful, consistent effort that had an edge that was more pronounced than Hydra. The more edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the maturation in the group. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing virtuosity was reflected by the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. Keyboardist David Paich's work also was sharper, more intricate and less cloying than earlier performances.
After touring to promote their album, the group recorded the band's Amsterdam live show that was released by Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. visit web site released a new studio album just a few months after and embarked on a tour around the world to help promote the album. In this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
In 1998, Paich and Lukather started looking through old demos and tapes in search of an album that would feature songs that were never recorded before. It was completed as a double-album titled Then And Now in 2001. It was the first album in the band's history not to feature any single song that had the word "A" in its title and it included one previously unreleased track, "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth record, Old Is New was an uncommercial success and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis that restricted his singing capabilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming was replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.
Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the founding members of Asia, met in England early in 2006 to discuss the possibility that the band could be reformed. This lineup, minus Howe (who was a member of Yes at the time) was later referred to as Toto XIV and toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also had an appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
