To further assess this hypothesis, we correlated the prevalence of tonic responses with the tactile-extinction lesion mapping, showing that they follow the same topographical gradient. Finally, in parallel with the notion that visuotactile stimulation improves detection in tactile-extinction patients, we demonstrated an enhancement of tonic responses to visuotactile stimuli, with a strong voxel-wise correlation with the lesion mapping. The combination of these results establishes tonic responses in the parietal operculum as the ideal neural correlate of tactile awareness.
Severe Crohn's disease (CD) can result in extensive bowel resections and need for creation of an ileostomy. Fecal calprotectin (FC) is well studied in CD management though its role in patients who have an ileostomy is unclear. link2 Our aim is to understand if FC is a useful adjunct to radiographic or endoscopic studies in identifying recurrent CD after surgery in patients with an ileostomy.
Between 1/1/2017 and 09/30/2020, we searched the Mayo Clinic electronic medical record retrospectively for adult patients with ICD-10 code for CD, and a surgical history of an ileostomy. Patients were included in the analysis if they had at least one FC measured and a concomitant radiographic imaging and/or endoscopic procedure. An abnormal FC was defined as greater than 60 mcg/g.
Fifty-one patients met our inclusion criteria, 17 had a FC level >60 mcg/g. Of these 17 patients, 14 had imaging and/or an ileoscopy confirming the presence of small bowel inflammation with a sensitivity of 87.5%. Of the remaining 34 patients with a FC level ≤60 mcg/g, 32 patients had imaging and/or ileoscopy demonstrating no small bowel inflammation with a specificity of 91.4%. FC from an ileostomy effluent had a positive predictive value of 82.3%, a negative predictive value of 94.1% and test diagnostic accuracy of 90.1%.

To determine interest in an early result acceptance program (ERAP) among stakeholders in obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN), and to estimate its outcome in future application cycles.
Surveys of stakeholders in March 2021 queried interest in ERAP across the US. Respondents included OBGYN residency applicants, members of the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Student Affairs, OBGYN clerkship directors, and residency program directors. Statistical analysis was performed from March to April 2021.
Respondents completed surveys sent by email from the Association of American Medical Colleges (to OBGYN applicants and members of the Group on Student Affairs), the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (to clerkship directors), and the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecologe data suggests 26 280 to 52 560 fewer applications could be submitted in the regular match cycle.

This diagnostic and prognostic study operated a continuous, crowdsourced challenge using a model-to-data approach to securely enable the use of regularly updated COVID-19 patient data from the University of Washington by participants from May 6 to December 23, 2020. A postchallenge analysis was conducted from December 24, 2020, to April 7, 2021, to assess the generalizability of models on the cumulative data set as well as subgroups stratified by age, sex, race, and time of COVID-19 test. By December 23, 2020, this challeng9-year age group, and the worst performance was obtained for the group aged 17 years or younger.

Younger age, oligoclonal bands, and infratentorial and spinal cord lesions are factors associated with an increased 10-year risk of clinical conversion from radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS) to multiple sclerosis (MS). Whether disease-modifying therapy is beneficial for individuals with RIS is currently unknown.
To evaluate the 2-year risk of a clinical event (onset of clinical symptoms of MS) prospectively, identify factors associated with developing an early clinical event, and simulate the sample size needed for a phase III clinical trial of individuals with RIS meeting 2009 RIS criteria.
This cohort study used data on prospectively followed-up individuals with RIS identified at 1 of 26 tertiary centers for MS care in France that collect data for the Observatoire Français de la Sclérose en Plaques database. Participants were aged 10 to 80 years with 2 or more magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans after study entry and an index scan after 2000. All diagnoses were validated by an expert group, whHaving 2 factors at the time of the index MRI scan was associated with a risk of 27.9% (95% CI, 13.5%-39.9%) of a seminal event within 2 years, increasing to 90.9% (95% CI, 41.1%-98.6%) for individuals with all 3 factors (3 risk factors vs none HR, 23.34 [95% CI, 9.08-59.96]; P < .001). Overall, with 80% power to detect an effect size of 60% within 24 months, a total of 160 individuals with RIS were needed assuming an event rate of 20%.
