The Band Toto Asia
Toto expanded its production facilities overseas, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an area of growth for Washlet toilets and bidet seats, in contrast to its "base" markets in Japan and China.
Dhaniram Toto was recording Toto words to ensure that the next generation could comprehend them. However, many words were being replaced by foreign words, such as dui from Bengali for verandah.
Origins
The company was founded in 1917 and its beginnings mirrored Japan's growth. In the first half of its existence, the company manufactured products to meet the demand for modern and contemporary urban housing. It was the first tunnel kilns in the country to continuously produce ceramics. It also pioneered the use of automation to control production, allowing for greater efficiency and consistency.
The company began expanding its operations overseas in the latter part of the 1980s to take advantage of new markets and sales opportunities. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and selling other manufacturers' products to complement its own line of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy increased sales and expanded the market share of the company globally.
In the late 1990s, Toto had shifted its focus on research and development of household appliances that use water. It also redesigned its distribution system to better serve customers and boost profits. The company adopted a just-in-time approach to supply chain management and used the same method in its sales strategy. This resulted in a higher level of satisfaction of customers.
Toto continued to innovate toilet technology. The latest toilet, for instance is equipped with a strong tornado flush that is more ecologically friendly than conventional toilets. The company makes use of recycled water in its manufacturing process, and has a green purchasing policy. Toto also manufactures bathtubs, faucets, and hand dryers with higher energy efficiency than conventional models.
The company's first museum opened in 2015 It has exhibits about Toto's iconic products and their development, its group companies (all related to ceramics) as well as the history of plumbing and products such as bath units, and in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum also has a bathroom with a WASHLET and other toilet innovations.
Before forming Toto, members of the group did session work for a variety of musicians. Boz Scaggs album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich, guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather and drummer Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also appeared on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.
Discography
You might expect a band with a name such as Asia to be a prog band however, it's actually a relatively straightforward rock outfit. The band started out as a quartet and recorded two albums - 1979's self-titled debut and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. But even though the band have a wide range of musical backgrounds, their biggest success came in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a massive blockbuster, but it was not without its difficulties. The record companies placed Toto under pressure to deliver an album that was a success or they would rescind the album. Luckily for Toto they did and they did it with the assistance of the smash single "Africa."
Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experiences. Before joining the group, the members worked as session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their distinctive sound has become the standard for the '80s, and has influenced many contemporary artists.
The album begins hard with songs such as Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write fantastic AOR tunes that slowly get into your head. The album also has some more mellow, jazzy tracks, like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album concludes with Great Expectations. This song blends folk and distorted AOR, which should appear completely unnatural, but actually is very effective.
After Toto IV, the band's fortunes started to plummet. David Hungate left the band to focus on his solo career and the band had several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the group due to drug charges. The band continued with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.
Toto released Isolation despite the turbulence. It wasn't as popular as IV. However, the group had a successful chart-topping album in 1992, Kingdom of Desire. The album was the last of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new vocalist.
안전놀이터 has performed all over the world, performing to an audience of millions, and has sold-out shows in Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia and New Zealand. The band's music has influenced multiple generations of fans.
Steve Lukather and Joe Williams have formed a strong, colorful friendship that thrives professionally on a global basis. In 2018 the duo celebrated 40 Tours Around the Sun with a hugely successful global tour. The album with the same title was ranked #5 on Billboard 200. The new tour by the band includes their most popular songs and rarely played live deep cuts, as well as a selection of songs from Lukather and Williams their individual catalogs.

Line-up
The band's third album, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet style of previous albums and was a stronger, more consistent effort that had a harder edge than Hydra. The edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the growth of the band. Drummer Bobby Kimball's increased ability to play was evident in the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard playing was also more sophisticated, sharper, and less derivative on earlier efforts.
After touring to promote their album, the group recorded an Amsterdam live show which was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. A new studio album followed a few months later, and the group embarked on a long-distance tour in support of the album. During this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.
In 1998, Paich & Lukather began searching through old tapes & demos to find songs that had never been recorded prior to. It was completed in 2001 as a duo album called Then and Now. It was the first album by the band without a single song titled "A". The album also contained a previously unreleased track titled "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New was an uncommercial success and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis that limited his singing ability. In addition, Hungate returned to Nashville and drummer Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.
Downes along with the other original members of Asia - Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened a meeting in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility of reforming the band. The lineup, with the exception of Howe who was busy with Yes during that time, was renamed Toto XIV. They toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band also featured a guest appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
